Romania could've become a power in this world if there would still be communism. In 77 there was an earth-quake wich took down loads of apartments and buildings, and because Bucharest wasnt a buldings-city, it was peasant-style city, he decided to renew the whole city...he did, at least 80% he did, he created the 2nd biggest building in the world, he made football stadiums, he invested in infrastructure alot, everything cost tough. And why did Ion Iliescu, a close associate of Ceausescu, become the next prime-minister? I think that the greatest tragedy of eastern europe is the fact that while the system collapsed the corrupt creatures who benefited from it did not. Decir que el comunismo causó más victimes que el nazismo es solemente decir un hecho. No quiero decir que una dictadura nazista es mejór que una comunista, sino quiero decir que cada sistema totalitaria es horible. El régimen de Ceausecu era totaliario, racista y era excepcional de cruél. Lea sobre los prisones de Pitesti y Sighetu Marmatiei, el proyecto radu y el canal del Mar Negro al danubio. one of ceausescu's sons said once on TV reffering to the actual government and those following them: You'll never be able to renovate what my dad built! He daid in the end but what he said was perfectly true, the only real motorway we had is crap full of pots now, the second world large building is full with rubish from actual parlament, buildings are folling down in the historic center of bucharest, etc...

Romania could've become a power in this world if there would still be communism. In 77 there was an earth-quake wich took down loads of apartments and buildings, and because Bucharest wasnt a buldings-city, it was peasant-style city, he decided to renew the whole city...he did, at least 80% he did, he created the 2nd biggest building in the world, he made football stadiums, he invested in infrastructure alot, everything cost tough. I think that if the communism lasted min. 3 years

swastika? lol...first of all i said what i taught happened, i wasnt supporting the way he was treating us, but what good things he has done. many ppl say that he destroyed bucharest in the name of "rebuilding it" in 2 books it said that...i cant belive how stupid ppl are, our sports department and teams were one of the best in the world. we were communist, but unlike other eastern bloc countries, we had things with western eu...he did many great things for the country, also many bad ones...

@Ermal8711 In a way you are right, but consider this; why was he shot so quickly, without a trial, without a chance to defend himself? And why did Ion Iliescu, a close associate of Ceausescu, become the next prime-minister? I believe that there were others pulling the strings as well, others who had Ceausescu shot quickly so he would not reveal their deeds, too. Iliescu certainly had something dictator-like in him - look at the mineriads, for instance.

I think that the greatest tragedy of eastern europe is the fact that while the system collapsed the corrupt creatures who benefited from it did not. To this day all across eastern Europe and the Balkans the same men who jailed and tortured others are now the new parlamentarians, they are the ministers of culture, education, they remained the prime ministers. The old elites never went away. Im just saying that Ceausescu deserved it... not that it was clean.

Every society is controlled by an elite regardless of the ideology.
There's one considerable difference, though: the perks of the ruling elite in socialism are a temporary privilege - not a property.
The implementation of socialism was as successful or even more successful than the implementation of liberal or neoliberal democracy.
As for the Ceausescu, there's hardly anything incriminating in trying to release one's own country from the vicious circle of foreign debt and blackmail.

Your country was at its down-peak at that time, and those "traitors" you call allowed your country to westernise itself.
