Brutality? Professional boxing has resulted in more deaths than any mainstream MMA competition. Throw in the fact that submissions are available and that there is no chance to recover via 10 count only to be KO'd again and you have a sport that is arguably safer than boxing.

It's the most realistic fighting style you will see. They're perfectly fine. Learning how to defend ground and pounds is what makes them an overall better fighter.

They're not entirely at the mercy of their opponents. The clip only shows knockouts but I'm sure there were those who managed to hold their attacker in the guard position and pull some submissions to tap them out.

It looks brutal but is in fact a very sophisticated science of self defense. Train in it before you criticize it.

I know it's not really as brutal as it looks to some. But punching away at an unconscious opponent is just not my cup of tea. The fight itself doesnt look brutal to me at all.

That's the ref's problem. When you're in a full contact match, even in boxing, you keep going until the ref fully determines that the opponent simply cannot compete any longer. Fighters have a tendency to shake off almost getting knocked out and coming out on top.

In boxing you're not allowed to hit on a downed opponent. In MMA it happens with almost every KO.

No, I wasn't talking about hitting a downed opponent, you were saying hitting someone who is unconscious. Someone could be knocked out and still standing or on there way down and boxers will still get hits on them until the ref stops them.

And if I'm knocked on the ground and the guy is trying to hit me, I'll probably have him right where I want him. There's no reason to sympathize for a mixed martial artist on bottom if he can manage his legs in the right position.

Again, you're assuming that they're crazy and submitting themselves to punishment on purpose or something. It's not as barbaric as it's made out to be. It's a complex and controlled experience that pushes the mind and body to its limits, as any extreme sport does. The hypothetical TKO'd boxer is just as defenseless, they're both unconscious and unable to respond.

By the way, I'm not a fanboy, I'm a practitioner. I train in this and other martial arts styles. It's all a physical game of chess.

Yes I know that it's not that dangerous since the ref stops it. And because of the wrestling they dont take too many head punches or kicks, so it might in fact be less dangerous than boxing in the long run. People do not understand this yet, though there is a growing understanding.
