ike! 15 mins of 'papa dont take no mess'??? i remember taking a 7 inch version of this to my primary school xmas party in 74 0r 75...i was 8 years old! the teachers wouldnt play it n i was annoyed cos they was playing some neil diamond shit...that was lyndhurst junior school in camberwell , south london...memories cos its all yuppies now...
@clearview360x -I remember playing some old JB @1969, in elementary school, during the rain, in the muti-purpose room. Me and my friends used to see who could slide the longest across the floor. In 2004, I saw JB in Oakland, CA. most of the audiance was older white folks. Go figure.
peace buckeye...u know what u say re older white folks n the brown concert...well its one of lifes major mysteries that black folk seem to spend their time running away from their heritage whilst the white folks go digging up the culture n appreciating it! maybe we been programmed so well...its the same in the uk!
ps checked out ur page 'sissy walk'?! love that shit...but have u heard the sonny jones/ eddie bo track of the same name- u can diggit?
You and me are both from the UK - but I don't see us running away from our heritage, in music. All I hear, all day long, is people playing hip-hop beats that are James Brown's beats with some rapper putting his voice on top!
The voice and lyrics may be changed up, but the heritage is intact!
With what Buckeye said, I think those older white folks at those concerts were folks who learned to appreciate JB over all those years. The young JB may have been too strong for them!
@clearview360x That is an awesome story. I can just picture some uptight teacher's faces when the funk hit them. HAHA. I would expect them to have scrambled for nothing but Neil Diamond. It is like the krytonite of funk. So cool that you brought that to school when you were young. I can guarantee you the kids at your school would have appreciated J.B. much, much more. I play a lot of different music for my 5 year old niece and she grooves most to funk it seems. Gets in her bones.
This song is another example of a song that is a bit too slow for me and I prefer the live versions, which are sped up, much better, although this is a great performance.
Mama said, papa's a slob, never on the job, leave his stuff around, sloppy as an old hound.....papa don't, papa don't, papa don't papa don't make no mess!!
