  • nice play.. the gamakas come out very well..

  • Thanks for the compliment but, as this was several years ago, I'm a lot better now. If you check my folder for Munna House Concert 2 you'll see me playing in India last year.

    Nick

  • Very nice !!

  • wonderful, I am currently learning yaman and its nice to hear another westerner playing it. Are you an musicologist of some sort?

    Thanks for all the videos

  • Thanks for the compliment. Not a musicologist per se but a lover, especially of Indian classical.

    Nick

  • Excellent..... Yaman is One of my favourite Raga... Very well presented...

  • Thanks for the compliment although I'm much better now. I think I'll post some more of me playing Sitar & Surbahar soon.

    Nick

  • Nick, if this video is of you, it's nice to be able to finally put a face with the name that has provided so many indian classical music and dance videos and information for us.

    Thank you :-)

  • Yes It is, indeed, me I'm afraid!!

    Nick

  • Wow, you're such an all around guy. Music, dance, and so many videos. Thanks for sharing all of this.

  • I think my dancing days are over now but i could still teach if required of me.

  • hi there! Nice sound, and secure sitar tech!

I bought my first sitar in Rikhi Ram (dehli), i will return to india in August, and i want to buy a good sitar but not in the rihki ram. Do you now anoter god shop with professional sitars? Best wishes

  • I can tell you where I got this sitar from in Pahar Ganj. Not the regular rubbish one usually sees at stupid westerner prices.

Send me a private message & I'll give you the details tomorrow as I'll have to find Shaan's card with his new address on.

    Nick

  • Could you tell me if you are satisfied with this sitar and where you got it from.

  • I'm very satisfied with this particular sitar. It has a professional stamp on it &, despite the fact it was bought OUTSIDE Connaught Place, it has all the quality of a much more expensive sitar bought at, say, Rikhi Ram shops in Delhi.

It was bought from a small shop in Pahar Ganj from a gent called Shaan. I'll be seeing him again when I go to Delhi in January next year.

    Nick

  • Hello Nick,

Did you make the trip to Delhi and did you meet Shaan.

  • I usually fly into Delhi as I did this time. I met Shaan & got another lovely black sitar from him. He's moved his shop to the big one that used to be called Chopra's.

    Nick

  • tripmonk0 - Nick - Can you give the address of Shaan's new business. Thanks.

  • quite skilled! my fav raag aswell! rag yaman/kaliyaan!!

  • Thanks for the compliment. I find my playing is getting better all the time. This was recorded last september & I've been back to my teacher since then so there's a difference in playing now.
