  • Why is this listed under Los Lobos? Looks like Lou Diamond Phillips to me.

  • @debbiedamooseful Los Lobos is actually performing the song, Lou Diamond Phillips played as Ritchie Valens in the movie, he's only lip syncing, even in "live" portion of the video.

  • @psychoticgoldphish got ya....I wasn't sure if Lou could really sing that great. Thanks!

  • @Listen2theMusic3

That's so weird 'cause just the other day my teacher just randomly decided that we should listen to/sing this song!

  • @thefinalflower I'm so jealous right now.

  • @Listen2theMusic3 Haha, it was mad crazy!

  • i heard the ritchie valens didnt even know how to speak spanish

  • @Revomatador ya but its a great song and with practice he got it

  • In order to dance the bamba one needs a little grace,a little grace for me and you,up,up(arriyba is up),for you I will be-(por ti sere) for you I will be.Yo have comprehend the rest the sae as I do.My translation: In order to dance the the bamba one needs a little grace,a little grace for me and you a little grace for me and you,For you I will be(gracefull) for you I will be.Im not a sailot,Im not a sailor,Im a captain im a captain.

  • come on everybody u know u want to get up a dance :)

  • Hi. Thanks for sharing your translation of the lyrics. I always felt that Ritchie Valens was using "gracia" in a double entendre. It primarily means "grace" and you certainly need grace to dance. But as you said, it can also mean humor and he means the song to be funny. Nice work!

  • 1:35 Brian Setzer!

  • esta con ganas me gustan estas rolas de richie valens

  • my family use to play, dance and sing these kinds of old song we also sang volare

    i grew up with them

  • To all of you Carolina Hurricane fans: This was the #1 song in the USA when RW Jerome Samson came into the world.

  • its sadfull that he died at the age of 17 he would be 1 of the worlds greatest rock stars...R.I.P ritchie.....

  • @Longrockwoman u got the right lyrics

  • it looks like hes lip sinking

  • me alegra hablar español y no ingles cuando escucho canciones tan buenas como estas

  • is he ritchie valens?i dont think so....

  • gracia = grace

arriba = above, up, stand up.

  • awesome!!!!!!!! =)

  • It just occurred to me that Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain" might have been inspired by this song.

On another note, Lou Diamond Phillips is an awful lip syncher.

  • @ Comaman3, it's Lou Diamond Phillips playing Ritchie in the film.

  • Some of us have so little Spanish...I believe the lyrics translate like this: In order to dance the Bamba In order to dance the Bamba A little humor is needed A little humor is needed for me and for you Faster and faster Faster and faster I'll be for you I'll be for you I'm not a sailor I'm not a sailor I'm captain I'm captain I'm captain Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
  • @longrockwoman 3rd line is

you need a liitle bit of grace

  • @longrockwoman from my knowledge, change humor to grace.

  • @longrockwoman instead of humor it is grace

    close though!!

  • @longrockwoman: I've heard it as... Want to dance Want to dance It takes a little bit of grace A little grace for me for you Up and up Up and up You raise me You raise me I am not a sailor I am not a sailor I'm captain I'm captain I'm captain
  • @longrockwoman our spanish teacher told us that arriba is spanish for upstairs and that la bamba is a baby

  • @TheSnowMobile3000 i was told, La Bamba mean beef, as in meat.

  • I'm taking Spanish so I know the lyrics translate like this: For to dance the Bamba For to dance the Bamba Requires A little bit of grace A little bit of grace For me for you And up and up And up and up For you I will be For you I will be For you I will be I no I am sailor I no I am sailor I am captain I am captain I am captain

  • @longrockwoman its ''a little grace is needed'' not humor

  • @longrockwoman thanks for translate this for us

  • @longrockwoman nah , you right pappa !

  • @longrockwoman

actually your translation isn't that bad. It actually says: verse : " To dance the Bamba To dance the Bamba you need a litlle bit of grace. a little bit of grace and a little something to go higher and higher. To go higher for you, for you. Chorus: Bamba Bamba, Bamba Bamba, bamba bamba. Bridge: I'm not the sailor I'm not the sailor, I'm the captian I'm the captian. otherwise your translation is very good.

    - Gretchen-

  • @longrockwoman everything is correct except humour should be grace and faster should be up. i know this was like a year ago but im really bored lol

  • i love this song so much, it just makes me wanna cry and dance :P

  • I love this song very much, it drives you to dance like magic. This was a hit in Philippines in the early '90's. "Viva Espanol."

  • i sang this song for my fifth grade councert lol

  • mama lemia puto

  • Me gusta el concion La Bamba.

  • LA canción

  • @berno91 thanks. Im sorry I dont speak fluent spanish. I just started this year but its an effort to sorta know what song is. I just forgot how to spell it and stuff

  • dont worry, is not the easyest language xD.... in fact in the song when goes: "para bailar la bamba, se necesita unA pocA de gracia" in my country it would be " UN POCO de gracia" i dont know if its a mexican thing or the movie was bad translated...

well good luck and keep studing your ESPAÑOL

    UN BESO GRANDE

  • @berno91 ohh isnt like the "a" feminine and "o" masculine so thats why its poca because its gracia maybe

  • probably...in fact now i think about it, its correct to say: "pocAs bananAs"... even to say: "pocA graciA"... but "unA pocA de graciA" just sounds weird to me xD

but well probably is because im from Argentina... the way we speak ( in Buenos Aires) is a mixture of olde spanish and italian xD so probably im not the best source.

  • @berno91 ohhh. Im so amazed you know English. And I always thought Buenos Aires was in Domincan Republic. I failed that quiz on the capitals of Spanish Speaking Countries. And I needed to listen to this song for Extra Credit in Spanish haha.

  • haha Dominican Republic!!! you missed by a hole hemmispher... and why are you so amazed i know english... i should be amazed of u knowing spanish

  • @berno91 I dont know because most people that speak spanish dont speak english fluently or cant write it. I know it took my Aunt like 1 year to

  • i allways saw it the other way... no offense but u have a pritty easy language... of coure ive studyed english since elementary school (12 years)

    I said:

Well maybe its a spoken change, just like with el azucar/ la azucar, because one way is proper but people say it both ways, u know? maybe like that.

  • @R3Dpill33 probably.. thanx for the thoughts..

  • @berno91 Or it was changed to rhyme better xD

  • @R3Dpill33 Maybe.. unbelibable, this conversation was started a year ago xD

  • @berno91 HA! jaja Yeah it did... wow weird when you think about it...

  • @berno91 yeah the movie is translated correctly, it must be a mexican thing :)

  • @berno91 It's a Mexican thing, I think. It's way to close to the original. What is your country? I'm USA and proud of it, but love Mexico and the Mexican people. Probably love you and your too!

  • @debbiedamooseful Argentina and PROUD of it! if u like to practice your spanish give me your facebook and lets chat

  • @berno91 Sorry, but I'm not on facebook.....yet. I'll let you know when I get something set up, so keep coming back here. Argentina! Wow, that is way too cool. By the way, I'm an old lady.....60. I would love to be in touch with someone that speaks Spanish. For now could we email? I'm debbiedamoose@aol.com. Would love to hear from you.....Gracias. (Did I spell that right?)

  • "Se necesita una poca de gracia" actually means something like "One needs a little flair/talent/gift." If you're interested look up "tener gracia."

"Ay arriba" is more like "Let's go!"

I'm no sailor, I'm THE captain.

I will be yours, I will be yours, ...

Great song, but the translations need some more beef.
