what a beast. I still don't understand why people care so much for high definition video. whenever I download movies they are always dvdrips and not blueray. as long as the picture is clear and watchable i'm a happy camper :)
@norge696 I dunno, even on a laptop screen there's an obvious difference bewteen 480p and 720p.
I prefer watching stuff as close to it's original resolution as possible given my laptop's limits (Movies and hDTV at 720p, older TV at 480p), but that's just me.
I think I've got the British version of your player; the SL-C6UB Mk2. Just happened across the video after watching your Sencore CR-7000 CRT Tester/Rejuvenator Demo. I'll PM you a link to mine.
Believe it or not i found a blue ray player and its made in japan unlike alot of junk you see but not as well made as most of my vcr your comment is very true. I quite buying my electronics in the united states. @RootBriansLostTeeth
The reason VHS became the industry standard believe it or not was because the porn industry adopted it as their standard format. That being that I do have a copy of "Behind the Green Door" starring Marilyn Chambers somewhere on Beta. The ones I always liked were made by RCA I think. It was like a big record and you slid it into the machine and then pulled it back out after it loaded the disk.
The porn industry as a factor is overplayed and, if anything, was more symptomatic of the popularity of VHS rather than a cause.
For one thing, a purveyor of porn doesn't have to have any kind of permission to sell pornographic movies on Beta from Sony.
Greater factors that lead to VHS dominance was JVC being more lenient to 3rd parties for manufacturing cassettes and VCRs, lower costs for licensing and manufacturing leading to greater adoption from manufacturers, and longer recording times.
The truth behind VHS taking over was simply because VHS had longer recording time. That is only the reason VHS took over. Beta had better picture and sound but the recording time was not as long as VHS. That is why VHS took over. I am a TV Tech for over 10 years.
Nevermind being a tank, you could use that as an anchor! XD I know the feeling, I have a Umatic S portable unit that over time give one spinal injuries if dragged around to every site.
WOW! The video quality is AMAZING! And did you hear "The Tide is High"? That sounded as if you're listening to it right off of a CD! This is when they actually MADE high quality products!
I have a SL-2300 it's a smaller version of the SL-5000

That looks remarkably good for a 1981 unit. In fact, it looks better than the VCR inside my 2003 CRT TV.

is that a Zenith VHS VCR in the background or a Panasonic?
IamFat32 6 months ago
@IamFat32 It is a 1985 Magnavox, which is indeed a rebadged Panasonic.

I own 3 beta vcrs and all do not work anymore, I used them a lot from 1980 to 1987. I kinda miss them. Betamax was wayyyy better that VHS IMHO.

That thing looks awesome, back when things were made to last. A late model VCR, you would have been lucky to get two years use out of it.
Don't even get me started with those garbage DVD players you see in Wally World or even grocery stores. They're 25 bucks because they're junk.

As for the RCA "big record" where "you slid it into the machine and then pulled it back out after it loaded the disk."
You are referring to the RCA Capacitance Electronic Disc system, or CED. It is also commonly known as SelectaVision VideoDisc.

@StarCar98 you mean CED's. Those were great! I wish DVD and Blu-ray had something like that, then I'd use them more often.

@StarCar98 Believe what you want, porn was available on Beta.

@wilkes85 ; The broadcast industry still uses the beta format, though it is not as common today as it was still in the '90s.
