  • oh please.

  • What an astonishing person. very, very cool... awesome.

  • did u know her real name is skinhead she only took 2 letters out u dont suit hair after years of not having hair that song vampier u do is a perfect exsample of white people and there land invasions.i dont hate sinead just white people history.took blacks from africa now they enter breed and think they own america after all dat slavery now barracka orbama is pres fucked up.the real culture there r the american indian, whos the vampiers sinead EUROPEANS...

  • @rextafaritesdread Her real name is not skinhead, that was a nickname she was given for being bald. Her real name IS Sinead O'Connor.

  • @rextafaritesdread

Did you really just say that? LMFAO

  • 1988? vaaav!!

  • @seeeliwww as I remember, she shaved her hair off on the purpose of not being accused to earn her success just on her pretty looks. Good she finally let them grow.

  • @DavidJashi I heard she shaved it for a movie part she was playing. But I do like your reason much better :)

  • she blows me away , love the voice

  • sinead and bjork should sing together.

  • @dajcei OMG!! that would be awesome! 2 of my faves and Annie Lenox.

  • FANTASTICA!

  • @ MrPmj1979 reaching through into truth. So we all gather in relating ways of passage thru the labrynth of timelessness turning the cosmic rythym back into order. :)

  • If there was anyone you wouldn't want to scream fire in a crowd building it would be her!

Amazing performance. Her 1988 Pink pop Troy performance is also breath taking and filled with raw emotion few have duplicated.

  • amazing song respect always when a lissen to her my mind goes crazy

  • This Should Be Played At A High Volume

    Preferably In A Residential Neighborhood

What is the implication of such a message, played during a song called *Fire On Babylon*?

It means, I wouldn't want to be living in the suburbs, when Judgement Day comes!

    *settles in for the fireworks*

    ~Outward Change Begins Within~

Mother Do You Think They'll Drop the Bomb?

  • Babylon is an allagory for a corrupted system that causes us to hate each other and compete with each other for what we need while the rich play and laugh.. like the first world illuminati now.. so much technology and power but not used for the benifit of many.. shes a Rastafarian so she draws direct corrolation between colonial rule in Jamacia and the Irish struggle against English rule.. shes calling for the ruin of this corrupt system.. Babylon must fall! because its unsustainable, corrupt

  • @rastagrrl spot on well worded!

  • Afinadíssima...prefira ela assim com cabelos. Assistam tb MANDINKA 'live'

  • Linda e maravilhosa !

    que voz linda!

  • in another sense, Babylons are all around us, all of the time. Timeless

  • what does she mean by Babylon?

    anyone?

    thanks

  • @punkuddha babylon is a place. i think it was some kind of holy city which is now a part or iraq. there a boney m song called rivers of babylon so i think it might also have been a place of peace. so maybe 'fire on babylon' is a reference to a once peaceful place being a place of war. i may be completely wrong, if anybody wants to tell me im talking out my arse please feel free...id be glad to know the real meaning of the song if ive been wrong all these years

  • yeah you got it, Babylon is a ruined city near Baghdad. There is a prophesy in the book of Revelations telling about Babylon, a huge city, home of one of the first civilizations, being burned. I think there are a lot of references to this prophesy relating her mother to maybe the merchants or rulers of the city. It is art, so open to different interpretations and Babylon has different meanings as its story is interpreted by different groups. There's a nice short Wikipedia article about it.

  • @bobwise1977 - Babylon was a city state in Mesopotamia. One of the most advanced cities at the time with splendid culture, society and prosperity. Due to the Bible however, Babylon has become a symbol for corruption, hatred, prostitution and a lot of other largely undeserved stuff - since Babylon was quite eager to make laws to hinder such crimes.

  • she is so beautiful now days people call gaga katy perry ke$sha rihanna britney spears beautiful they dont know they use thousand of makeup stuff to look beautiful but still fails.Look at Sinead very simple but still looking thousand times better .

  • FUCKING AMAZING> WOW

  • ....always been a fan,,,never left her

  • Great live video. Thanks for posting. I love, love, love this woman. Absolutely magical.

  • did she raid the circus to get her backup band?

  • she is incredible. so hot, so smart, and so talented. and she is Irish. my dream girl. :)

  • I love Sinead voice..

  • You know why you never hear this song on Britains Got Talent or shows like that?? It's because it's Sinéads song, nobody can come close to the passion she puts into it.

  • @dubcindub15 I thought it was because there are no talents in Brittain.... LOL

  • Sinéad is God.

  • most people turned on her when she ripped up a picture of the pope during a performance on SNL. . . Then shortly after all the endless scandal of sex assault by catholic pedophile priests and clergy on children. . . those who scorned her should feel ashamed. Her point is that the pope is not divine and willingly protected those pedophiles in his Church at the expense of the children. (he just transferred them to other churches).

  • @MrDanielTynan pope joan was a good person

but the christian church is evil

  • i think i just found waldo.

  • To think people actually hated on her for ripping on the pope. These days you can take a huge steaming dump on Benjy the Rat's head and sell it as a t-shirt.

  • What is heart breaking, is that the people she sang, and fought for where some of the ones that turned on her. I think people misunderstand where she was coming from. She wasn't sorry for speaking out against the pope, she was sorry for re awakening memories people weren't ready to face. Basically put, until a victim is ready to become a survivor, you cannot force them to come to terms with their past.

  • yes alway is, she took my pint

  • this young boy is jools holland?? :)

  • @zubizarettaa (c) description

  • fuck it feels like she is staring into your soul....

  • She is sooooooooooo xy

  • she's put on some weight since this video, but she the last person to care.

  • hot pants

  • Sinead makes me worship my menstrual blood!!! Love her.

  • Her speech on snl is second only to the classic american revolutionary speech, "give me liberty or give me death." When she said it ireland was torn by the catholic church and the protestants fighting to say what she did, as an irish woman, she has got to be one of the most courageous women in the world. It was beautiful.

  • One of the bravest people of our time. To rip a picture of the pope on live T.V. was an act of a true warrior. She knows what Babylon is when she sees it so should all of you. Roman Catholic Religion was started by a pagan Emperor and then enforced by 600 years of torture and slaughter to purposely eradicate Jesus' message of truth and replace it with nonsense and lies of trinity Gods and hellfire, none of which is true and they threw in Christmas (Saturnalia Dec 25) for giggles.

  • Charismatic great talented woman

  • sauber

  • Incredibly talented and incredibly brave artist and humanist. Rare, too rare.

  • She was really hot, hotter with hair......better than any other singers!!

  • O she has hair here :)

  • o man JOOLS HOLLAND freakin youngg haha i love him so muchhh (pleas welcome lol)

  • Excellent. Thanks for posting this!

  • Shes fantastic.. but shouldnt have snubbed kiedis.. Shame on her

  • mmmm

  • werde deutsche nicht angenomme mit posten? mist

  • what year was this show

  • heavy

  • you walked a path against cathol;ism i as a born and breed catholic walk with you........

  • She is brilliant. The end.

  • she is sexy as fuck

  • Sinead o connor has always been interesting to me. Like so many others out there. i love her song. "nothing compares to u." but. as of recently ive been trying to focus in on her other songs....i was taken back by her old performance on SNL of "war" with her ripping up the pope's pic at the end...but i understand fully what she was trying to get across to the viewers. Freedom of Mind.

  • @mikkileecarter The pope had allowed child abuse to happen by priests, he and the Vatican went out of their way to ensure nobody spoke out and that provided a safety net for these child molesting priests.

She spoke out against that, and declared this evil shell of a man to be the real enemy. A shame that she was later quoted apologizing for it, she had nothing to apologize for.

  • @mdsatan Nope. know one should apologize for there beliefs or there integrity to stand up against them if they want.

  • omg, she had hair^^

  • Please Lady Gaga... take notice .... and admit you should shut your cake hole and stop releasing records. You can not sing.

  • @NicoDame "Lady WHO"??? ;)

  • @NicoDame .. Ur an ass.

  • this is the only song i like from her the rest of her material is so so

  • @SuperAlexrios Listen again.

  • she like a sexy version of Winona ryder...

  • @trufiend138 Winona Ryder is hawter though.

  • @trufiend138: WR is sexy...

  • @trufiend138 You are talking about 15 years ago i hope..

  • @trufiend138 i would have though winona ryder to be the sexy version of winona ryder....but ok

  • I admire her the more I learn the more impressed I am with her. Angelic face and voice to match.

  • Amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazinggggggggg, beautiful voice! I love her music so much

  • her rage.... and she is sexy with that hair... ughhh...

  • @isr4el666 I totally agree!!! She looks great here!!!

  • i've said it before, i'll say it again, god dang that girl could sing, (and still can , ) and that little jig is kinda sexy , lol, come on now, you know you thought she was beautifull back than ,

  • From Hispanic girl.... Eres la Mejor Sinéad!!!!!

  • ver very strong voiceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Godlike beauty!

  • not sure if serious...

  • Sinead is always so darn serious. :-( Lighten up, Sinead. You're not the only one who suffers in the world. It doesn't make you special.

  • @MrPmj1979

it very much does make her special....this is one of the most retarded comments ive read on youtube in a while.

youre quite obviously projecting on her. live her life and then you can tell her not to express it.

  • @MrPmj1979 Of course she is not special just because she suffers. She is special because she turns her suffering into art and manages to get across to all of us what she feels, all her fears and ghosts.

  • @psych3577 Just thinking out loud. Actually being willing to suffer does make one special. Suffering has become something one can refuse these days, and refuse to suffer is being done more and more on a large scale. And im not even talking about psychiatric drugs yet.

  • Wow. For years, I thought for sure that Sinead would be quite the looker if she would just ditch the "concentration camp-survivor" look she was well-known for; it's nice to be right once in awhile. ;-)

And before anyone gets the seat of their pants in a wad: it is not lost on me that she has a fantastically versatile, powerful, and emotive singing voice.

  • @usergreg1498 you should see her in no man's woman music video.

she has long hair with a wedding dress on. so gorgeous.

  • @usergreg1498 yes, it's good that she no longer feels the need for her 'child -abuse-survivor- cum- sexless-bhuddist look' . I guess that she can handle being seen as a 'looker' now.

  • @andreasegde this song is about her mother if yoouh actually look it up on google what this song is about.. Who she wrote it about. its about her mom.! not the Catholic Chruch! its about how her mother abused her

  • @Nemiforlife28 her mother was catholic haha

  • i cant fucking imagine anyone else alive being able to sing this song as good as her

  • pure awesomeness

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • The video is about her mother.

  • @andreasegde The video is not about her mother, it is about Margaret Thatcher and what she did while she was prime minister.

  • @spldrtn100 Rubbish.

  • @spldrtn100 IS IT THO

  • @spldrtn100 ? wth are you talking about?

  • @andreasegde i thinks the Catholic Church this song is about

  • She's so fucking beautiful!

  • Clear and Simple in Black & White :-)

    Peace ;-)

  • I haven't heard her sing like this before, It's like her energy is tempered through calmness instead of the raw untamed energy in her first album. Epiphony central, Sinead and Bjork share something in common, and I hadn't noticed it until now.. they both have a vocal chamber that allows them to open out these really amazing notes from their throats - it's the yell/ scream notes. Think, I Play Dead from Bjork's Debut album.

I only WISH I could sing like this. Sinead is exceptionally gifted.

  • @vivinski wow u noticed to...i just listened to Bjork's hyperballad and now am listening to this and i feel a certain type of resemblance...its awesome. love it

  • you look fantastic but your music is garbage

  • @siti1ca yeah, you are right. real music is lady gaga and hannah montana...obviously you can't understand the message that sinead o'connor transmits through her music , but that doesn't give you the right to call her music garbage, at the very most you could say you don't like her music

  • @ImHisGhost no way they bite.

The only western music i like is Rush.

Try werrason, franco, jb mpiana, kilebu

    now thats music!

  • @ImHisGhost lolol. This lady is amazing, period.

  • excelente!!!!!!!

el "slow tempo" es notable. este album es increible. el guitarras es John Klein, ex Siouxsie and the Banshees.

  • this is complete crap

  • Sinead O Connor has always been my favourite female singer. Her voice is perfect and her music is medecine for the soul!

  • stunning vocal!!

  • Perfect!

  • God I love this Song......I don't think she can possible put more of her soul into this tune.... Thank you so very much Sinead O 'Connor. Your heart felt song has touched so many... You are truly one of God's Angles, And I for one thank you so very much. What a true Irish treasure you are

  • @dmkext - lovely message -

  • truth will overcome evil, the church and religion is lost without faith in Jah,God,Allah. She is the bright light of truth singing out for us to only be faithful and leave the religion of man behind.

  • this ws played at high volume in more ways than one here in southern cali and we heard you cleary. people like you are few and long between and we have listened since the late eighties when we first heard you... peace be with you and strength with your cause...

  • Sinead or Bjork? I wonder which one should have my babies.

  • @RioXavier They are both amazing, hauntingly beautiful angels. God I wish they were my daughters to teach me to sing like they do and to teach me the lessons of life!

  • Sinéad come back to us you are lovely and courageous and strong!!!!!

    I salute you!

(did anyone else think of Freddy Krüger when they saw that guy in the striped T-shirt?)

  • @koddinn I think it's former Siouxsie & The Banshees guitarist Jon Klein as the bastard son of Dennis the Menace and the Artful Dodger!

  • Damn.. I never knew she could sing like this.... Always thought of her as some weirdo on SNL and the Pope thing.... She is really good.

  • @dmkext Turned out she was right about the Pope too, covering up all the child abuse in Ireland, Americans just didnt understand, but the people of Ireland knew, she has one of the best voices ive ever heard, you should hear her sing The Foggy Dew with a band called The Cheiftains :)

  • @marcusceltic Thanks I will

  • @Topmostpop Sinead wrote this song (Unversal Mother album) and it is about overcoming the abuse she suffered as a child at the hands of her mother (not at the hands of priests as some think). The abuse was horrific enough that custody of Sinead and her siblings went to their father, almost unheard of in Ireland in the 1970s. Babylon, I believe, refers to the burning down of that destructive Babylonian state of mind.

  • @pgdaniels4 <3

  • @pgdaniels4 I don't know about her mother's abuse of her. Is there something I can read?

  • @ladyfuschia Google "sinead mother abuse," several interviews will come up. Some misquote her quite severely, so try for a video interview. Basically, her father was only the 2nd man in Ireland ever awarded custody of his children - when Sinead was 8. As recently as 2010, she said that the abuse was so severe that, as a child she wet her pants when her mother came near her. She went back to live with her mother from 9 - 13 and then left her mother "forever" at 13. Her mum died in 85.

  • She had to go away to fight the demons she is singing about -

  • Sinead is Courage.

  • She got some vocal cords! Girl can sing.

  • @Iriebent Its fake which is why she has the ear phones. sorry.

  • @piss666off The ear thing is comm with production. Like a coach w the QB. Make no mistake, this was a live performance.

  • God damn!!!!! SHE CAN SING ABOSLUTELY PERFECT!!!!!!!

  • Magnificent!

  • Fyah pon Babylon.....

  • simply the best, great Sinead!

  • Úristen....

  • One of her best performances...she's a great lady!

  • I've got Sinead shivers!!!!!! Hauntingly powerful!!!!

  • Yep! Tha lass canna belt out a splendid tune!

  • there is also a very good performance of this song on one of the lilith fair albums

  • Thank you , you are always BEAUTIFULL,,, right thru! SHINING :) Meg Petley NZ :)

  • i cried to her performance here..love you sinead.....conratulations on your wedding today morning with Steve Cooney!!!! go for happiness girl!!!

    I love irish accent...

  • I love the way she looks on stage. The moves, the clothes, the wide open mouth, the big eyes. Very cool.

  • She is pretty good!

  • As many times as I've seen this, I'd never noticed how cute the bassist is.

  • Jeez she's got a big mouth!

  • @okla1959 Does she lol?

  • What a set of pipes! Great voice, brilliant and caring and brave woman, and she's so beautiful, especially with no hair, but with hair, still very much so.

  • the fact she was abused by priests says it all, there sick fuckers who take pleasure in abusing and sexually abusing little children, and that pope benedict defends them.

  • of course she is singing about the catholic church! D U H

  • 14 dislikes? You people are deaf.

  • @flaffywaffy @flaffywaffy well, maybe they're children of catholic church :)

  • This performance is so amazing. I feel like I am there with her, experiencing.

  • Doesn't she look lovely with hair?

  • Powerful stuff!

  • the voice cannat be live, just amazing.

  • it is the only song that i like

  • Intense RAW complex deeply spirtual this performance is mesmerizing.. Looks like she was turning herself INSIDEOUT .

Possessed it seems her mouth stretched to its limits was still not large enough to expel the words.. such passion. Gives one the impression she was close to ripping her beautiful little head in two.

    Consuming performance.

The way to live a life.

    Thanks.

  • I was at her concert several month ago. She is amaizing

  • She was so beautiful

  • What a voice!

  • I love that bit at the begining ,,,'this, should be played in a high volume, preferably in a residential area..' lol great!

  • my god this song is fabolous!! please would someone tell me what is she talking about? I am not sure I understand it completely!
