Those are just safety wires and their ONLY purpose is to protect the flyers from injury if the tower collapses or if one of them misses her cue. The girls are truly balancing and catching each other and the wires play no part in this aspect of the performance.

@Iciebleu it's true, most of them or 25 and older! it's so weird that they are so small, but i'm a gymnast too and there aren't lots of large gymnasts.

This show is based on the concept of East meets west. I own the DVD and watched the behind the scenes so i am not bsing this. Most of these acts originated from the very first circus that the Chinese started. The original circus acts are being altered here just a tad with a Cirque modern twist.

I've heard that chinese children(6years) have to be flexible. They get bent by their trainers, and some backs break!! I don't think these people of Cirque du soleil become that way so acrobatic, tere it was (i hope) training;)

Not all Chinese children, only children that are training to become a gymnast, acrobat or cortontionist or do any other sport that requires flexibility.

They do get bent by their trainers, but so do people all over the world (although Chinese trainers aren't exactly known for being, uh, gentle). However, I HIGHLY doubt that they sometimes break backs. Flexibility is about stretching your muscles etc, it doesn't do anything to your bones.

The poor girl on the bottom looks like she was having a really hard time when they had a 5 peson stack up. I can't even imagine the pressure that bears down on your body during that. Amazing that she can withstand it!

When they came to perth, we got front seats...but you could see the pressure on them as the show began....Everytime they mess up (which was only once, in perth) they might loose the chance to be in the show again...aswell as the fact taking 5 girls standing on you, might hurt a little aswell as the fact they have to concerntrate incase something happens cause they are not harnesses.

I saw this live and the lady in the stilts didn't land one of her jumps and had to have dislocated her knee. It was the scariest thing because they had to stop the show and have the crew help her off the stage. We never found out if she was ok!
