We all know factory farms are bad but this "Best life Possible" fallacy that so called "family farms" tout is ridiculous. @HKTeeVee After taking the case against Mendes Calf Ranch all the way to the highest court in the land, ALDF got news on May 15, 2008 that the California Supreme Court was dismissing ALDF v. Mendes. The facts laid out in the lawsuit against Mendes were never heard by the court system. Because animals are still considered "property" by the law, ALDF is still pushing the envelope by using innovative legal strategies to fight for the right to represent the interest of the voiceless in court.
Horrible cruelty. It is sad and frustrating that there are such cruel people on this planet, but that just exemplifies the biblical good vs evil, doesn't it? God cried.
hey all animals are dirty even ur cats an dogs i own 300 cows the get dirty so will people get mad at me a have people video tape my farm and try to take my animals htat r dirty so if u r one o those people that say hey that animal is dirty take it away and give it to some city folk then all of ur dog and cats can go 2
@cattledriver73 the dirt is not the point, the point is them being kept in such small spaces that they cant even live properly. a true farmer does his milking in the morning and lets them free for the rest of the day, and as calves usually they are not seperated. even if you use them for your personal use, they should be given respect...
U know if all huiman race dies off the entire planet will benefit from it the ecosystem wll be restored and a green era would begin or we can just stop doing shit like this
I felt bad about calves without mom. They need out of small room let them walk with MOM S MILK ( nurse ) I want fight let mom and calves be free walk around big area.
I'm starting to wonder about the expression "inhumane"...humans are the only predators who will harm and kill for the simple pleasure of it, or abuse and hurt defenseless animals or babies just to feel powerful...no animal does that, they have to kill to survive and nature's law is applied only to level and adjust. Now I say that these cowards treat those babies the human way, because only humans abuse.
I eat meat, but I purchase my beef and chicken from family farms, so i know that there animals are cared for and provided a high quality of life before they get to my dinner table. I think thats something that could be done on a global scale. Purchase meat from local farmers, not the grocery store and big corporations. Is this video based on the veal industry? Im certain that many dairy calves are the victims of veal.
@GoGadgetHookerClean I am trying to covert my husband over to eating only "free range" meat. I am explaining to him that in other countries, people eat far less meat at each meal. We can stop this torture if we all try!
people that treat animals like this should have them taken all away and not be in the animal business this is horrible!! Lets crate all the farmers that do treat their cows like this
i understand that we are humains and we consume meat but we are far too much consumming.they are kiling far more animals when we dont need that many. if we have to kill ,we dont have to torture.theres a difference . im gonna tel you guys something.the first time in your lives when your gonna eat
People make videos about each and every things. It is not just calves that are held in cages. Chicken and ducks that are used to produce eggs are held in cages. There was a video about a duck that was beheaded. It was in a cage. The man just went to the cage, took the duck out and just hacked the entire neck off. The duck still had some reflex action left in the headless body. He severed all the parts. This morning on TV they showed a video of wild horses being captured to be kept in cages.
@fakir005 It doesnt have to be made by peta. Its made by people who actually CARE about animals. I eat meat but this is just sad to see them in crates.
What would they be ber confined to if not in crates. There are several reasons they are confined to crates. Calves that are not confined to crates grow to be wild animals that go on destruction path and destroy everything in sight. Heifers (female calves) are restrained prior to being artificiallly inseminated so that they become tamed and ready to be milked when they calve. Even wild horses on federal property are captured and locked up in ranches built for the purpose.
I have lived on a dairy farm in the east for most of my life. We raise our calves in hutches and have been often accused of raising veal calves. The fact is calves are better off being seperate for health reasons such as disease prevention. The way the calf in the video is laying is quite normal and they look healthy. As for all the noise they were making and trying to get out, it was probably feeding time. Don't listen to organizations like PETA educate yourselves.
should they be confined is such small places tho? couldnt a little bit more money be spent to make these the confines bigger?? i mean really.. if everyone raised the standard, meat would go up in price but everyone would pay it. just like we pay for milk thats gone up
The farmers do whatever they can for their animals but most places are having a hard time with the price of milk being so low. The way that animals are treated is a reflection on what the consumer is willing to pay for the product. There have been 2 dairy farmer suicides in the San Joaquin Valley in the last 6 months.
I just think that the price of Milk should go up.. period. And the price of meat and the majority of people would pay. And the farms need to be making the extra money.. not walmart, shop`n save, etc. I heard when Pork went up, it was merely because the shops wanted more money. Most people care and want the animals to have a better existence. AND I BELIEVE IN LOCAL LEVEL SHOPPING. I purchase beef and milk from local farms. this way there is very little overhead and animals live better

Reading the comments I can see many of you have never seen a mother cow and her calf. The fact that you think this is acceptable is beyond me. Calves do lay flat out when sunning. Anyone who watches the video can see the great amount of stress of the calves, pushing and looking outside. Terrible. I don't eat beef or any meat anymore and I have never eaten veal. They keep the veal calves basically anemic so their meat is tender and white. Land O Lakes and Challenge products support Mendes.
Calves are removed from their mothers because the the average dairy is a very dirty place and it's healthier to get the calves out of there. They are also isolated to prevent the transmission of disease. If you have 1200 calves roaming around in a pasture it's nearly impossible to keep track of who is sick and who isn't and who is eating and who isn't. Calves sleep like that whether their in a pen or pasture. The calves looked quite healthy and well cared for.
The little farmer has been put out of buisness by corparate farms. This is the result. I don't like calves in small crates either. Although the few calves i did see looked healthy . I think were screwed. Oh ya calves poo too & it ain't pretty, thanks for the VISUAL!
the calves look very well cared for, it effects the farmers income if his animals are not cared for properly. The lying position at 2:00 is a very common resting position for cows, calves, bulls, sheep, goats, gazelles, deer, antelopes, etc. B
This calf would have aching bones being confined like this day and night. Even prison inmates are allotted time in the open air each day for exercise. I eat meat regularly, and I have reared my own calves. I realise intensive farming has it's own challenges, but if animals are suffering because of it, then maybe it should be abolished.
wow this is a disturbing video. Humans have no respect for animals nowadays. If anybody replies to this and says anything mean..you can just fuck off because it's my opinion.
There is no way a person can put any animal in such a small crate and say it is well cared for because it's in good physical health and doesn't exhibit signs of illness! Feeding the calves and making sure they're healthy won't suffice to cover up the fact that confining them to such small crates IS cruel!
I own a dairy and raise my calves using this same practice. Those pens are for the calves own protection, not to hurt it. Hello people, we are in this business to make money not to mistreat the animals and kill them. And all you people that boycott our products whoopdy-doo because there are always more people that love to eat meat and dairy products. So get off your high horse about something you have no experience or knowledge with and go eat your tofu.

All this bull about taking calves from their mothers, dairy cows have too much milk for their calves. If calves are left with them the cows will get mastitis infection enters their bloodstream and they die. In Europe calves are not kept in pens and we don't use growth promoters. calves still get milk. Why try to convince people about something when you don't know the facts.

my bf's family owns the largest cattle farm in argentina. and i love milk-fed veal. it is cruel, but just try a cut of high-quality veal (my bf forces me to try some even on the day before my modeling shoot)...it is heavenly!
oh and for bluesun there is actually a component of milk that has been shown to help prevent cancer. It is called CLA a non secretory component of milk.
wow Patrick I am sooo glad its not just me!! I hate when people bitch and moan and complain with NO FACTS. The reason calves are removed is for their health. and as far as the feces on the rumps. I live on a dairy farm as well and even the calves out on pasture have that! having them in individual pens allows for close observation so that animals remain healthy and an be monitored more closely.
They have a natural desire to nurse& suck on the other calves bodies if placed together(evidence of the cruelty of raising cattle for human consumption.)
you guys all dont know what the fuck you are talking about. This is a necessary process needed to raise healthy animals so the world can be supplied with food! Not everybody wants to be a vegetarian. Actually, the majority likes dairy products. There are far more worse things happening to humans that people should be worried about instead of the way we all get cheap food every day, you spoiled motherfuckers!
This is by far one of the worst images that I have ever seen and it saddens me to know that people are so cruel to animals. I am so ashamed to say that I eat chicken & beef!!! This is fucking ridiculous and inhumane to animals!!!! Open up your eyes people...it should be against the law to treat animals this way.
What is the matter with you sarah hevett. They can't walk around, smell different smells, leap, run and play like they should be able to. God gave them legs to walk around with. People that think this is okay should be confined in a small space to see how it is and remember it's every day not just an hour or two. This is one of the reasons I am a vegetarian. I will not be part of abuse of factory farming.
yes please think about not consuming dairy products and dead animals as well .please consider not making your tummy a graveyard for animals or humans for that matter.
in the meantime please sign where you can to mae life less painful for these poor creatures who have done nothing to deserve anykind of cruelty
I don't think I've ever seen a calf lay flat out on its side with its legs out. They usually curl up. They are kept in small pens for convience, and to feed them. You can't have a bunch of calves at feeding time crowding around a bucket or bottle..it would be too hard. I took care of an average of 30 calfs and that was enough work for 8 hours a day. I can't even begin to imagine several hundred or more. After they are done being fed milk they are turned out in groups.
and also calves sleep on there sides with there legs streached out during the day to streach out there growing muscles. and I know you all would not wanna be stuck in there days like that with all you can do is move a little and just see same stuff over and over. I see those calves wanting to get out and trying to get out so they can run like they are suppose to do. they have to run to keep from getting stiff and uncomforable.
Calves usually curl up and sleep. If a calf is happy, they will get up and stretch before moving off to explore the world - even calves that have been weaned at a week old.

What? These calves are clean dry and healthy! The calves CAN turn around and are clean and dry!
That is how calves lie down, how all cows lie down. They lie with their legs tucked underneath them.
They seem to be very well treated to me.
They are clean, shiny and slick. They look pretty healthy.
I was expecting something horrible, and instead I see a video about regular dairy practices. Actually, this looks like a very well run and maintained calf operation.
Some people in this world have very cruel tastebuds. All this suffering for something on your plate that will make you sick via cholestrol, diabetese, heart attacks, obesity & cancer??? For health & heart - Go Vegan
Dairy products have been scientifically linked to increase obesity and cancer risks, in many peer-reviewed studies across the globe. Dairy cows are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics that are passed right on to you when you eat their products. Go vegan, if only for your health.
YEAH. That's why Cialis & Viagara is making a killing off men who can't "get it up". Too many of the wrong hormones they get from eating products from cows. I'm NOT a vegetarian but I listen to what other people have to say. The more I learn about the pros & cons of being a vegan the more I'm leaning towards it myself & sharing this information with my grandchildren. I'm going to make sure they see this video.
As far as the hormones in animal products..... you get thousands of times more hormones in one serving of cabbage then you do a serving of beef. Look it up, even in cattle given hormones there is only about 9 nanograms! in cabbage there is over 3000!!
I bet you wouldn't want to be stuck in like that not being able to lay down right or move. so don't say it's right if you wouldn't want to be stuck in a place like that for weeks yourself. and then to get killed at a very young age is also very wrong.

Those calves are lying down the way calves lie down, even if they were in the middle of a field. Look at the video, they can turn around. They look pretty healthy to me.
Looks like the staffers at ALDF were busy a few days ago posting 'outraged' comments. Just like during the first hour after posting this video the first time...
Those poor animals. Thank goodness the vast majority of the people in my state voted against keeping calves in crates like this. It's time Calif. voted against it, too.
We don't need meat and if we were meant to drink cow's milk, we'd be born calves.
I will never spend a dime with any company that condones this treatment! Land O' Lakes and Challenge Dairy, can kiss my ol' derriere! My boycott list just keeps getting longer, and it feels good! I support only good American companies, and I save money, get better quality, and feel better about myself; I do not support APATHY!
This is pretty much dairy calf management. They look clean and dry and healthy. If you don't want calves raised like this, then don't use any dairy products.
starbuckaroogirl: What of the desire of calves to indulge in play behaviors, to socialize with their herds, and, more obviously, of their desire to remain with their mothers?
What of the weight loss which may occur to both cows and calves following separation? And what of the force feeding of calves, either as a status-quo procedure or because the calf refuses an artificial nipple? What of the effects of dairy farming on the calves mothers, & the ways this may cause deficiencies in mothering ability?
All cows loose wight after giving birth, just like humans, whether their calves are with them or not. Calves, unless they are sick do not loose weight. Less than 1% of calves need to be force fed on the first day they're born. I've never had a calf older than a day old refuse a nipple. I have no idea what your last question means, but I suspect its a backhanded attack on the concept of dairy farming, which is a classic idiot vegan ploy.
If a calf were to be let out of a hutch, it would not do much running. Mostly they are content to just sit or stay in the same place, not moving very far. When they are older, they move about more, but cows are not known to be runners. They tend to stay where their herd is. The reason they are placed in hutches from birth, is to prevent the spread of diseases from calf to calf. Although they can touch their neighbors, it still limits their contact with a large amount of diseases.
heh I seen 2 day old calves run back and forth alot then lay on there sides then get up and run around again with others. I love to see you be in a small room like that for 2 months not able to run and streatch. this is done to keep this discusting veal crap tender for humans. fuck your ways to cover up your money. it's a sick and mindless way of doing it. but you dont care until enough people man up and take action instead of letting big mouths like you run everything
I AGREE i work on a dairy farm in south dakota and all our calves are in poly domes withch are about the same sizee as those pins withch i like the desine of the slotted floor so their not layin in there shit
In our hutches we have soft beds of straw that are cleaned and inspected twice a day. They are fed twice a day and are given care to make sure they are healthy and in good shape. They stay in pens for a matter of weeks, then they are put in large pens with alot of room to run.
Calves don't usually come up to the front of a hutch unless they are being fed or they recognize the person. Yes calves are part of a commodity. But these animals on this ranch appear to be treated humanely. This calf would have been able to lay down in that hutch.
We have 6,000 of these. This calf being filmed looks healthy and clean as far as calves go. Almost all calves or cows have poop on their tails in any field or pen or hutch. This calf looked scared because the filmer was intruding on the hutch.
How may a calf express a personal preference? Try providing an escape route from the hutch and find out! Better yet, do it shortly after the calf has been separated from its mother and place the mother cow nearby. Nifty little experiment! Then you'll find out what the personal preferences of both are.
A2kkLmcVV: Your plan would work nicely for that 25-35% of calves which actually suckle their mothers for two months. Too bad most don't suckle enough, or have poor mothers, or stop after a few weeks, or get sick, or a myraid of other things that happen in the real world. When you return from the land of sugar drop fairies, I suggest you try to raise dairy calves with your great knowledge.
I raised calves by not giving there mothers nor them fucked up drugs and shots. and let nature work. never lost one yet and I been at it for 10 years. but it's dairy for other stupid idiots. it's only the males cooped up in there like that mainly for veal which is discusting. and there calves are pulled just so they can get all the milk for fucked up humans. for me I just have them for pets. I have other ways to make money without abuse unlike jerks. now enough trolling jwb217
jwb217: When you say that hutches are "one of the safest ways of raising baby calves," don't you mean "one of the safest ways of turning baby calves into economically profitable units of production?" Or, do you see them as sentient beings who actually prefer separation from their mothers, loss of physical contact with other members of their herd, the negation of personal preference with regard to living conditions and a lack of opportunity to express many of their natural behaviors?
I meant the chances of a calf dying is less than in other forms of housing, is taht clear enough for you dumb-ass? Please explain to me how a calf may express a "personal preference"? I figure most want to be safe, clean, healthy and well-fed. Perhaps I should ask for a typed memo from each?
threecollie: So, are you then saying that these calves are never "spooked" except when someone with a camera intrudes, that they never desire to turn around, and are content to merely stand in one place day in, day out? And, with regard to resting positions, are you saying that calves never wish to lie on their sides?
This happens when people who know nothing about animals get involved in how they are cared for...wonder why these calves are "contorting themselves"? It's because the idiot with the camera is spooking them and they are trying to escape from him or her. The calf that is used as an example for not being able to lie down is in the "sitting" position for a cow, one which they nearly always choose when resting. The calves in this video are clean, healthy and obviously very well cared for.
Calf hutches have been proven as one of the safest ways of raising baby calves. The death loss and sickness rate in hutches is much less than in other forms of housing, including keeping them with their mothers. Moreover, calves are only housed in hutches for the first two months of their lives, and then spend many years in non-confined settings alongside other cows. This video is classic context-free propaganda fed to cause-addicted wastes of space.
This is so disturbing just like so many other acts for mass production for human consumption. However, how many people are still eating meat and dairy products. If it is heartbreaking, cruel, then stop supporting it and become a vegetarian or even better vegan. No demand-No Need.
If more people would take action when they see animal cruelty, change will occur. This is pure animal abuse - no doubt about it. Man is selfish and cares nothing about the suffering of innocent animals like these.
is there a god, i'm wondering why all this crap is allowed in this world and why is nothing done, i know people try, but as always, the government allows this crap, i as 1 can get nothing done, but i will always try
Absolutely disgusting treatment..not only torn from their mothers, put in solitary confinement, no love, no space, no comfort from other cows no exercise...humans are such barbarians..this place is is like a prison, only prisoners are treated more humanely. These living breathing defenceless babies, are treated like a piece of rubbish.. They would never allow this appalling treatment on humans, there would be an outcry...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ok you are way off. I have seen where "HUMANS" would beg for the "treatment" that these calves are recieving. Some people wish that they have a place to sleep as the calves do, along with 2-3 meals a day and all of the vaccinations and medications that are needed. That is what these calves are recieving.. Care.. The best care possible..
Well i wouldn't want to stand in the shower cubicle for weeks and months on end..thats pretty much how it is to those poor babies.
The small space is disgusting...and whoever sees it differently, is just covering their lack of compassion as well as lack of respect for other species. Whats worse, animals cant say how they feel cause their voiceless.
This is heartbreaking to watch. Some so innocent and loving, for man to take these beautiful calves, make them suffer their very short lives only shows just how cruel and selfish man truly is. There are no other words to discribe man, but mean.
this is sad

Cloudstreams 2 years ago

Don't listen to organizations like PETA educate yourselves.
summer86365 2 years ago
should they be confined is such small places tho? couldnt a little bit more money be spent to make these the confines bigger?? i mean really.. if everyone raised the standard, meat would go up in price but everyone would pay it. just like we pay for milk thats gone up
candimoin 2 years ago
The farmers do whatever they can for their animals but most places are having a hard time with the price of milk being so low. The way that animals are treated is a reflection on what the consumer is willing to pay for the product. There have been 2 dairy farmer suicides in the San Joaquin Valley in the last 6 months.
jcooper1486 2 years ago 4

Land O Lakes and Challenge products support Mendes.
ebonpharo 2 years ago 2
Calves are removed from their mothers because the the average dairy is a very dirty place and it's healthier to get the calves out of there. They are also isolated to prevent the transmission of disease. If you have 1200 calves roaming around in a pasture it's nearly impossible to keep track of who is sick and who isn't and who is eating and who isn't. Calves sleep like that whether their in a pen or pasture. The calves looked quite healthy and well cared for.
tbull97580 2 years ago

This calf would have aching bones being confined like this day and night. Even prison inmates are allotted time in the open air each day for exercise. I eat meat regularly, and I have reared my own calves. I realise intensive farming has it's own challenges, but if animals are suffering because of it, then maybe it should be abolished.

There is no way a person can put any animal in such a small crate and say it is well cared for because it's in good physical health and doesn't exhibit signs of illness! Feeding the calves and making sure they're healthy won't suffice to cover up the fact that confining them to such small crates IS cruel!
carebearnmbr46 3 years ago
I own a dairy and raise my calves using this same practice. Those pens are for the calves own protection, not to hurt it. Hello people, we are in this business to make money not to mistreat the animals and kill them.

What is the matter with you sarah hevett. They can't walk around, smell different smells, leap, run and play like they should be able to. God gave them legs to walk around with. After they are done being fed milk they are turned out in groups.
cremelloqh 3 years ago
and also calves sleep on there sides with there legs streached out during the day to streach out there growing muscles. and I know you all would not wanna be stuck in there days like that with all you can do is move a little and just see same stuff over and over. Dairy products have been scientifically linked to increase obesity and cancer risks, in many peer-reviewed studies across the globe. Dairy cows are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics that are passed right on to you when you eat their products. Go vegan, if only for your health.
bluesun723 3 years ago
YEAH. That's why Cialis & Viagara is making a killing off men who can't "get it up". Too many of the wrong hormones they get from eating products from cows. broozersnooze 3 years ago
As far as the hormones in animal products..... you get thousands of times more hormones in one serving of cabbage then you do a serving of beef. Look it up, even in cattle given hormones there is only about 9 nanograms! in cabbage there is over 3000!!

starbuckaroogirl: What of the desire of calves to indulge in play behaviors, to socialize with their herds, and, more obviously, of their desire to remain with their mothers?
A2kkLmcVV 4 years ago 2
What of the weight loss which may occur to both cows and calves following separation? And what of the force feeding of calves, either as a status-quo procedure or because the calf refuses an artificial nipple? What of the effects of dairy farming on the calves mothers, & the ways this may cause deficiencies in mothering ability?
A2kkLmcVV 4 years ago
All cows loose wight after giving birth, just like humans, whether their calves are with them or not. Calves, unless they are sick do not loose weight. Less than 1% of calves need to be force fed on the first day they're born. I've never had a calf older than a day old refuse a nipple. I have no idea what your last question means, but I suspect its a backhanded attack on the concept of dairy farming, which is a classic idiot vegan ploy.
jwb217 4 years ago
If a calf were to be let out of a hutch, it would not do much running. Mostly they are content to just sit or stay in the same place, not moving very far. When they are older, they move about more, but cows are not known to be runners. They tend to stay where their herd is. The reason they are placed in hutches from birth, is to prevent the spread of diseases from calf to calf. Although they can touch their neighbors, it still limits their contact with a large amount of diseases.
starbuckaroogirl 4 years ago
heh I seen 2 day old calves run back and forth alot then lay on there sides then get up and run around again with others. In our hutches we have soft beds of straw that are cleaned and inspected twice a day. They are fed twice a day and are given care to make sure they are healthy and in good shape. They stay in pens for a matter of weeks, then they are put in large pens with alot of room to run.
starbuckaroogirl 4 years ago
Calves don't usually come up to the front of a hutch unless they are being fed or they recognize the person. Yes calves are part of a commodity. But these animals on this ranch appear to be treated humanely. This calf would have been able to lay down in that hutch.
starbuckaroogirl 4 years ago
We have 6,000 of these. This calf being filmed looks healthy and clean as far as calves go. Almost all calves or cows have poop on their tails in any field or pen or hutch. This calf looked scared because the filmer was intruding on the hutch.
starbuckaroogirl 4 years ago
How may a calf express a personal preference? Try providing an escape route from the hutch and find out! Better yet, do it shortly after the calf has been separated from its mother and place the mother cow nearby. Nifty little experiment! Then you'll find out what the personal preferences of both are.
A2kkLmcVV 4 years ago 7
A2kkLmcVV: Your plan would work nicely for that 25-35% of calves which actually suckle their mothers for two months. Too bad most don't suckle enough, or have poor mothers, or stop after a few weeks, or get sick, or a myraid of other things that happen in the real world. When you return from the land of sugar drop fairies, I suggest you try to raise dairy calves with your great knowledge.

As to the video being "context-free," the context is pretty much self-evident, as is amply demonstrated by the visuals presented.
A2kkLmcVV 4 years ago
jwb217: When you say that hutches are "one of the safest ways of raising baby calves," don't you mean "one of the safest ways of turning baby calves into economically profitable units of production?" Or, do you see them as sentient beings who actually prefer separation from their mothers, loss of physical contact with other members of their herd, the negation of personal preference with regard to living conditions and a lack of opportunity to express many of their natural behaviors?
A2kkLmcVV 4 years ago 2
I meant the chances of a calf dying is less than in other forms of housing, is taht clear enough for you dumb-ass? Please explain to me how a calf may express a "personal preference"? I figure most want to be safe, clean, healthy and well-fed. Perhaps I should ask for a typed memo from each?

threecollie: So, are you then saying that these calves are never "spooked" except when someone with a camera intrudes, that they never desire to turn around, and are content to merely stand in one place day in, day out? And, with regard to resting positions, are you saying that calves never wish to lie on their sides?
A2kkLmcVV 4 years ago 2
why does this barbaric treatment of animals take place, ? greed and money come to mind !
The people who do this have no heart.
neesan1 4 years ago
This happens when people who know nothing about animals get involved in how they are cared for...wonder why these calves are "contorting themselves"? It's because the idiot with the camera is spooking them and they are trying to escape from him or her. The calf that is used as an example for not being able to lie down is in the "sitting" position for a cow, one which they nearly always choose when resting. The calves in this video are clean, healthy and obviously very well cared for.
threecollie 4 years ago
Calf hutches have been proven as one of the safest ways of raising baby calves. The death loss and sickness rate in hutches is much less than in other forms of housing, including keeping them with their mothers. Moreover, calves are only housed in hutches for the first two months of their lives, and then spend many years in non-confined settings alongside other cows. This video is classic context-free propaganda fed to cause-addicted wastes of space.
