@Ettio137 It would depend on how many Cichlids you want in your tank... Mine is a 50 gallon and I have never had more than 10 fish in the tank at once. I keep the numbers low so everyone has their own spots to chill out in - plus it keeps the fighting down to a minimum.
As for mixing with other tropical fish - I was told by the guy at the petstore it's not a good idea to mix Cichlids that are from the different lakes, so I've always stuck with the ones from Lake Malawi.
Cichlid isn't a species or even a genus. Cichlid is a family of species the way sharks are a family of species or whales are family. Some cichlid species will produce hybrids but most won't.
I don't want to pass along mis-information, but I was once told by someone that Cichlids usually only breed with Cichlids of the same type or color. I did a quick net search but couldn't confirm if that was true.
My tank doesn't contain pairs of the same cichlids, so no babies have been born, but I have read that Electric Yellows are easy mouth brooders to breed in captivity.
whats the minimum size for an afican cichlid tank, and can they go with other tropical fish?
