Ontario International, about a hour and half drive from LAX, is just as bad and some days worst. The pilot on mine got it on the first try in 20+ mph with 45+ gusts. Damn Santa Ana's.
Going around doesn't make the guy a "pussy". Wind conditions change for each landing aircraft, so he may have experienced something the AA guy didn't.
@mathewjordan1993 lol! I can garantee he is a better Pilot than you will ever be! I dont understand how you as a 17 year old can critisise a fully trained commercial Pilot!
Looking at this again, why in the wide world of sports is the approach to darn close to heavy car traffic?? What was there first, the airport or the road??
@NellsStuff The roads and the airport were right around the same time. Road traffic just became more heavy. LAX along with a couple other airports [which ones escape me at the moment] also have runways that actually go over roadways because when more plane traffic was added they had nowhere else to add a longer runway. The city where I live became part of the flight path in recent years when weather is bad at LAX. The joke at our house is "I hear a plane, must be foggy at the coast."
For a small plane that Southwest sure did handle the crosswind rather well. The Alaska airline pilots also did a great job showing how it's done. Of course the BA pilots didn't have a problem as they are some of the best in the world.
Good ol Aer Lingus. I've never flown on them but I've heard nothing but good things about them. Not to mention its my favorite color scheme on an aircraft.
hi this is a very nice video look I need help I have been looking for this place to watch planes land but I don't know how to get there can you please help me and give me some directions please I live in California Avenal California is up north I will appreciate your help if you see this message please write me back thank you

they are are lights yes and they are part of the ils precisoin landing system . they mark the beging of the runway in sometimes on two or three straight lines leading to the runway.
DAMN!!! Talk about some hard approaches at LAX. Some of those planes were so close to the freakin' Glide Slope that it looked like they were gonna a piece of one of the linings on the way down.
i remember that day, it was my birthday!, it was sooooo windy. the wind in my area was about 30-40 mph. we saw some lady that got blown over in the street and they had to call an ambulance for her.
Look at the area LAX is in. There is no room for a runway to accommodate crosswinds, therefore, pilots need to come in at and angle and crab just before touchdown.

The nose to wind is a common practice during cross-wind landing, the airplane is back on course during flare or even touchdown.
