  • Those clothes were really nice, Francie really does remind me of the 1960s model "Twiggy"

  • I love the Francie dolls.

What I really love is the elegant, gentle simplicity of these early Barbie and friends commercials. There's a taste and style to them thats so charming.

  • You are so right. And that's something they need to bring back.

  • For some reason, the narrator reminds me of Midge from That 70s Show...

  • She reminds me of Twiggy! When she said "lashes" the first thing that popped to mind was Twiggy. :)

  • Like, wild! What I hated about "groovy" Francie and all the Barbie dolls once they could bend their legs was that you couldn't get there pants to go over their legs because the legs were made of this really clingy rubber! and FORGET their "hosiery." It never went past the ankles!

  • omg i sooooo agree!

i just didnt put pants on barbie sometimes lol

  • yup it was always a dress because you had to change your mind about the right outfit! i always also use to just cut pants into shorts

  • oh sorry i messed up on the first comment

    i just like francie better

  • my mom has her

  • Hi, wow that video brought back memories! My Mom obviously saw it in 1966 because she bought me a Francie for my birthday and although she was an adorable doll I didn't play much with her because Barbie's clothes were too big. You were supposed to have a whole separate wardrobe just for Francie I guess. Thanks for putting this video up to see.

  • Oh I love Francie and Barbie Vintage Models!!!Last September I went to USA and bought a Vintage Francie Doll Reproducton - 1966!!!

  • She's mod! Like, new, baby! XD

  • you can tell the hippy era wa sabout to start... 1965 and over... GROOVY.

  • Did they just say....groovy??? And Mod??? Oh my 0-0

  • I have a real '67 Barbie, can't find anything for this doll anymore (or at least not in my area...) There's barely anything for Barbie anymore... sad, Barbie was and still is the coolest doll on the market!

  • lol

  • Oh No!!!!

Seems this is where Barbie turns around to becoming like today's dolls.

What happened to the "You can tell it's mattel, it's sweel"?

Why did they change it to "You can tell it's mattel, she's groovy"?

  • The times were changing in the 60's and Mattel modelled its dolls accordingly. It was keeping up with trends, something all marketable products have to do. No one in the 60's would have bought a doll that used phrases that their parents would have as children. Everyone in the 60's said "groovy".

  • "She happenin" "and you can tell its mattel she's groovy" lol

  • So that is how the really talked back then. LOL. No wonder the parents still say groovy.

  • She was a simple and beautiful doll. After Francie Barbie got a make-over to look more modern and hip. I love the old vintage Francie dolls and I too love the Mod-Era of Barbie.

The early dolls looks very sophisticated and high fashion. Very Adult, and refined. The mod Barbie actually looked like a teenage girl and Francie started it all. She's great. LOVE this old commercial.

  • Francie is the best doll ever, I love her face and skinny body, She's my dream doll.

  • I adore Francie as well! She was just the most beautiful of the fashion dolls of that age. I also like her Mod Friend casey...too bad they were long before my time....still, I managed to purchase both Francie and casey doll in decent condition for under $50! Thats a bargain!

  • The Francine doll looks very similar to the Jenny Doll with the big doe eyes. Francine is one of my favorite vintage barbies relatives.

  • A jenny doll?

  • Far out! Too bad it's not in color. Francie was the prettiest of the Barbie Family dolls. Mattel made their best dolls in the Mod Era. Today's Barbies are ugly! Mattel, what have you done?

  • Not all the new Barbie Dolls are ugly, the collector doll are beautiful

  • Yes, you do have a point there!

  • @BarbieCollectors im sorry to say this but i love barbies but the new dolls look a little.... sluty It's really hard for me to say this but its true

but still i love all barbies no matter how they look
