What I really love is the elegant, gentle simplicity of these early Barbie and friends commercials. There's a taste and style to them thats so charming.
Like, wild! What I hated about "groovy" Francie and all the Barbie dolls once they could bend their legs was that you couldn't get there pants to go over their legs because the legs were made of this really clingy rubber! and FORGET their "hosiery." It never went past the ankles!
Hi, wow that video brought back memories! My Mom obviously saw it in 1966 because she bought me a Francie for my birthday and although she was an adorable doll I didn't play much with her because Barbie's clothes were too big. You were supposed to have a whole separate wardrobe just for Francie I guess. Thanks for putting this video up to see.
shes a hippie? i dont think her mom would like those stalkings she will be yelling francie! take off those stockings! but francie will yell im going with barbie to a prom! but her mom will say just change........
I have a real '67 Barbie, can't find anything for this doll anymore (or at least not in my area...) There's barely anything for Barbie anymore... sad, Barbie was and still is the coolest doll on the market!
The times were changing in the 60's and Mattel modelled its dolls accordingly. It was keeping up with trends, something all marketable products have to do. No one in the 60's would have bought a doll that used phrases that their parents would have as children. Everyone in the 60's said "groovy".
She was a simple and beautiful doll. After Francie Barbie got a make-over to look more modern and hip. I love the old vintage Francie dolls and I too love the Mod-Era of Barbie.
The early dolls looks very sophisticated and high fashion. Very Adult, and refined. The mod Barbie actually looked like a teenage girl and Francie started it all. She's great. LOVE this old commercial.
I adore Francie as well! She was just the most beautiful of the fashion dolls of that age. I also like her Mod Friend casey...too bad they were long before my time....still, I managed to purchase both Francie and casey doll in decent condition for under $50! Thats a bargain!
Far out! Too bad it's not in color. Francie was the prettiest of the Barbie Family dolls. Mattel made their best dolls in the Mod Era. Today's Barbies are ugly! Mattel, what have you done?

Why did they change it to "You can tell it's mattel, she's groovy"?

The Francine doll looks very similar to the Jenny Doll with the big doe eyes. Francine is one of my favorite vintage barbies relatives.
