  • who is pressing fast forward on this video! haha no but really this is awesome! :) it makes me want a mandolin even more

  • Insonnia

  • the devil didnt bother to come down to Georgia

  • I wish old white musicians dressed as cool as old black musicians

  • @SpanielDayLewis I really don't care what kind of clothes they wear or whether they are white or black for that matter. All I care about is skills and talent. These boys have both. All the best.

  • ah, au fait, vous venez de quelle planète? :-)

  • génial. Bravo à tous les deux.

  • or my god.....

  • Uh. Whut!?!?!? Mind=blown.

  • excellent

  • @m4rlo ah. Well I don't see or hear it so *shrug*

  • Sweet stuff!!!

  • holy shit! insane guys! bravo

  • that's no joke. really great mandolin player

  • I play both instruments (play, in the loosest sense of the word) and although this is beautiful, I think I wanna cry and give up! Knowing I'll never get within a galaxy of this genius! :-(

  • @bonnscottRIP Keep practicing and you will...

  • I think it's the faces that makes this video for me more than anything XD

Though I could listen to this ALL DAY.

  • this is beast

  • this is crazy fast

  • ..And so Jay and Silent Bob grew up and learned to play music...

  • @craigwg I was just about to post that I didn't know Kevin Smith could play the guitar.

  • This is great playing, but the tractor version is the funniest!

  • You guys are Gods of Music!

  • Nice!

  • very good !

  • has this video been fasten a bit ?

  • Rocknroll

  • outtakes? :)

  • great faced paced playing, fun to watch, thought there needed to be a bit of variation in the rhythms used when they were improvising, vary similar rhythms used the whole way through.

  • you rock silent Bob

  • @sk8terjohnny Now that's funny!

  • @sk8terjohnny Silent Bob & Gob!!!! LOL!!!

  • SPEECHLESS!!!! WHAT A TALENT THAT IS SPECTACULAR GOD BLESS YOU ALL

  • @COSTARICAVIDAS why do U think that God has anything to do with this??? maybe it's hard work and love for the instruments...maybe thats the reason why they R so special...try to think about that from different perspective...

  • @zombiezombie1977 i agree :)

  • i didnt know kevin smith played guitar

  • best guitar I seen In a long while

  • doope

  • Yngwie Malmsteen acoustic

  • nice martin

  • silent bob got sick at guitar

  • this is legendary!!

  • That mandolin looks fancy!

  • masters of gameboy tetris xxD

  • this is just amazing!

  • Goddamn mandolin fiasco. lol

  • where is the base player ?

  • @kc7wwy You know, that's a darn good question. I didn't realize that the number of instruments I was hearing clearly didn't match the number on the screen.

  • Holy, fuck. That is all.

  • awesome stuff. What didn't you guys show the bass player, he plays nice. Is the mandolin a flatiron? couldn't see the headstock well enough. Again, very nice playing.

  • @bjshear its a Lloyd Loar.............worth a absolute fortune : )

  • What scales do they use?

  • Check out Curtis Jones new band! Google "Insonnia band"

  • I didn't know Kevin Smith could jam.

  • ...ils n'utilisent pas le 4eme doigt ??? (le petit)

  • why the bassist is not on screen ??

  • @m4rlo probably a recording

  • @m4rlo There's no bassist, the guy on the guitar is playing the bass line. Only 2 instruments here.

  • @gvonderau give it another listen on some proper speakers. Definitely an upright bassist off screen somewhere or perhaps on a backing track. Easiest to hear during the guitar solo section.

  • @Eckchria ah yes you're right. Couldn't hear it on my laptop speakers :)

  • @gvonderau if you listen during the guitar solo you will hear the upright bass - he's clearly not playing the bass line during this bit.

  • @m4rlo Shut up and listen to the music!

  • @m4rlo uhm, i think the guitar player is actually playing the bass, as well as the rhythm...

  • @m4rlo what bassist?

  • @LifeWithSideburns ANDY HOHWALD (upright bass)...

  • @LifeWithSideburns at 0:53 when the mandolin stops soloing, and the guitar takes over, even a deaf man could hear that there's a bassline still playing (and it surely doesn't come from the mandolin). yes there is a doghouse bass playing (double bass, upright bass, bass fiddle/violin are other common names), and you can hear it is plucked with fingers not picked.

  • @m4rlo Because nobody cares...

  • Comment removed

  • @m4rlo very good question, he is just as important in my opinion.

  • @m4rlo i think he's missing an eye.

  • OMG, that is really GREAT! Thanks very much!

  • give me the partitures!!

  • thats so fucking awesome!

  • can you play the mandolin without a pick?

  • Great job!... I could never pick like that in a million years

  • 1:53 lol born wankers, great performance and great talent though

  • hahah thats some straight pickin

  • Reminds me of Pixar for some reason :)

  • HI MR.MIDKIFF 7TH GRADE TECHER BEST IN THE WORLD ITS GAGE!!!

  • Mr. Midkiff is actually my 6th grade strings teacher. He is a musical genious, just doesnt admit it. =)

  • bill murray and silent bob still rock :P

  • Awesome!!!!

  • A blistering performance from a couple of geniuses. I know others can bash this out, probably just as good but, here the are, and fair play to them. I like their contrast in styles too from the, almost dinner jacket bolt upright technique of Jeff Midkiff to the frantic, and raring to go hands-on style of Curtis Jones, both clearly enjoyed the gig and so did I. Great Post, Thanks..

  • is this years of practice or just ingenious?!

  • @BubeundJunge

Most likely some of each. (Actually, a lot of each!)

  • who's that line anyways? guy?!

  • @izzbiz12

  • what's the chordprogression of the rythm guitar? (yeah i know it switches from mandoline to guitar)

  • im glad they kept the double bassist off screen

  • Invisible bass

  • yeeeaahh!! :-D

  • I never want to play music again.

No ordinary human being can match the epicness of this.

  • you three are LEGENDS!!!!!! I don't see how anyone could have missed the like button!

  • Wonderful.

    So nice performance-5 Stars!

    Thanks.

  • Bad Ass !

  • Absolutely brilliant. I was fortunate enough to see Curtis Jones in Helsby, England in 2005 when he visited the Robin Hood pub at the invitation of the Williams family and John Dowling (Banjo player extraordinaire). He played a free gig and sold his album from when he was in a band called Acoustic Room; He was a very nice, humble guy. No airs and graces and a pleasure to meet.

  • you see that mando player. one day i will be him. just giving everybody a heads up.

  • Amazing!!!

  • WOW! amazing! absolutely brilliant!

  • The guitarist kinda looks a bit like a chubby Mike Portnoy

  • Looks like a Martin D-28 Dreadnaught acoustic

  • 2:49-2:52, awesome.

  • it must be so difficult to keep in time with each other doing this

  • Ive watchee this for the last couple of years and still love it, COOL man!!!

  • is that a joke? You are honestly asking if you can substitute a mandolin string for a guitar string.... really? To find you answer:

    1. Look at the mandolin

    2. Look at the guitar

    3. Look back at the mandolin

    4. Look back at the guitar

    5. Repeat as necessary until the size of both instruments sinks into your thick skull lol

  • @wartburgknight

Way to be a douche, douche

  • @wartburgknight Do you not know that the length of each string can be changed by cutting the end off ?

As long as the type of guitar string you have has a ball end, and the gauge is suitable, you could use it on a mandolin.

  • @toonzz5215 *cough* "...substitute a mandolin string for a guitar string..." *cough*

  • @pilam2013 I was just replying to wartburgknight , re: using guitar string on mandolin ( i.e. is it possible ? ) not on the advisablity of it. You need to take something for that cough of yours.

  • @toonzz5215 in case you arent familiar with mandolins, you dont use a ball end, you use loop end strings on mandolins, so the guitar string wouldnt work on a mandolin

  • @wartburgknight

I used to substitute guitar e strings onto the mando all the time, back when it was chewing through them. It's cheaper than buying the full set. Same gauge, just a guitar string is longer. Break the ball out of the loop end and voila!

  • @wartburgknight what does the size of the instrument matter?

  • @wartburgknight lol i have actually used a guitar string on my mando before however it was a dire situation!

  • @wartburgknight is that a joke? you are honestly asking if you can substitue a mandolin string for a guitar string.... really? to find your answer:

    1. look at the manolin

    2. look at the guitar

    3. look back at the mandolin

    4.now back at me

    5. im on a horse

  • @triplejayvideos

    twaz a good one.

  • twaz a good one.

  • @wartburgknight Awesome, just plain awesome

  • @wartburgknight lol what a douche, you and the 88 thumbs up you received have obviously never touched a musical instrument.

  • @gvonderau How? That was a legitimate statement.

  • Wow!

  • awesome! to good to be true!

  • shit!! total win!!! grrrrreat!!!!

  • Looks like Curtis jones his head is gonna explode at 3:00 xD

  • brilliant

  • I´d like to see angus young pull this stuff off

  • @shadowdudej exactly. finally someone recognizes that because people thinks it sounds cool, doesnt necessarily demonstrate good musicianship.

  • mind=blown

  • WOW WOW WOW

  • great talent but sloowwwww it dooowwwwnnnnn! way too fast and dont get so wild with the solos just play with feeling and let the music flow and be listenable. :)

  • AWESOME. This makes me want a mandolin more than I already did.

  • congratulations from Poland !!! Just AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!

  • great

  • Just AMAZING!

  • Pick it !!!

  • fast forwarded?

  • the bass player is filming and playing in the same time ;)

  • freakin awesome

  • Jeff Midkiff has been playing that mandolin since he had hair. I remember him as a young boy, playing at the Galax fiddlers convention. He could play the heck out of it then. He played on some McPeak Brothers albums. It was some great music. I still listen to it all the time. Oh Lost River, now I'm comin back, to the pot bellied stove, where the firewoods all stacked. Get her son.

  • mario word soundthrack XD

  • great mandolin playing, but the guitar solos are uninspired...to much of a show off...Look how many notes I can squeeze into one measure, something like that..

  • Absolutely awesome!

  • just great I salute and thank you

  • thats some sweet fast jammin its like a video game soundtrack it so fast

  • @gameldame i'm sorry, but fuck you.

  • Midkiff does it more for me, personally.

  • this remids me of the mario bros from the nintendo

  • is there a cello player off camera? fantastic playing!!!!

  • not bad for a pair of beginners, keep practising lads and you'll get there...hehe!

  • O_O

  • almost expected the harlem globetrotters to walk out. great vid

  • Django, eat your heart out.

  • Awesome version.

  • i'm sure that it is suppose to be sweet georgia brown on the guitar but sounds like flight of the bumble bees on the frist break mondo was great

  • These guys need to practice scales more.... no they don't.

  • gangster as sin. love the right hand work. Nice and tight. No need to mention the left hand.

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • freakin unbelievable!! I think i'll go break the neck off my mandolin and throw it in the garbage!

  • tight!

  • That's just awesome! Thank you for sharing!
