How strange... I had a copy of some kind of Ford Simulator at some point (on a shareware compilation CDROM - hundreds upon hundreds of similar hokey programs for £5 - you couldn't lose :-D) ... but it didn't look much like this or the V1. It was EGA for a start, and the driving parts, whilst still not brilliant, were a lot better (sort of akin to "Test Drive") and you could choose various models. I guess it was v3 and they changed the programmers? I'll have to try to video it myself maybe...
I appreciate you taking the time to review such a bizarre and obscure "game". I love the early 1990s, what a magical time. The newer generations will never understand the magic and charm of these terrible little programs.
If any of y'all are curious, here's a video of Ford Simulator I (watch?v=f5Pe5eAsZnA). Strange, you can actually choose to drive different cars. Wonder why they removed that feature.
God, I can't believe this game has come back from my past to haunt me! I got this disk back around 1990 or so. What a terrible "game." It was a bunch of boring text, bad graphics of cars, and you drive some car that says, "SC," and won't go over 100 mph. And I was so pathetic that I'd put the game in from time to time, hoping it would have magically become more fun. Excellent review, by the way.
I remember playing the previous version of this game. It came on one floppy, and you could choose different cars... though the only real difference was the speed and shape of the dashboard. The clusters resembled the horrible 80s digital clusters of the time. The non self centering steering is wild!
I remember this strange game. The SC could do 140MPH in real life. It was pretty advanced for 1989 it was supercharged and intercooled V6 with electronic suspension, 4 wheel disc ABS and it was RWD with independent rear suspension (IRS) other American RWD cars like the Camaro and Mustang all had solid rear axles except the Vette. It was a fairly high tech showboat for Ford at the time designed to compete with BMW 6 series and it outperformed them at the time. Sorry... I love those cars :)
Oh yeah, that was one reason I was so disappointed the game was so insanely limited. Performance? Nope. All you could do was technically drive an SC which didn't go past 100. Also had a Taurus SHO to look at in the showroom and such but nothing at all mattered in the races... oh well, lovely cars.
I've played a couple of these games, but that was ages ago.

No, really, where did you nab a Boards of Canada t-shirt.

I'm sure that the Supercoupe could do more than 100 in real life, I guess thats only as fast as that old game engine could get to.

@TahreyUK There were something like five Ford Simulator games, so I'm not surprised they got better!

This reminds me of a Play 4 free game.

I wish adware went back to this. No more stealth adware trying to accidentally sever your computer's e-jugular or give it e-clots. :(

Awesome! I had Ford 1, and you could drive all the cars, and I can't remember any speed limit, but the steering was hopeless!

I have this version of the game on a shareware cd that I got.

@phreakindee The thunderbird really does 140, my dad's 1991 can get up to that speed pretty quick, 0-60 in about 6 seconds!

That was such fun to watch.
I've never seen this before, but it looks like one of those "so bad it's great" type of games.
SteveBenway 2 years ago
Thanks! It really is enjoyable in that quirky and questionable sort of way, just the way I like it.

Do you remember chex quest. It was a doom clone only with chex and slime creatures. It was free in a box of cereal. It is a great piece of ad-gaming,
kickflipjr 2 years ago
Yes I do! Quite fun actually. Been trying to locate a copy to review, I love random old FPS games and Chex Quest is on my short list.
phreakindee 2 years ago
Holy smokes! I forgot about this one! My buddy Justin used to have this one on some old disks.
