downshifting with gears to slow down is cooling your engine....how?!?!...simple; closing throttle and decreasing fuel intake so heating by detonations is decreased to the minimum, but same time you have high RPM what makes your oil pump to oil the system and cool itself a bit.....also, there are some "abrasive" effect on other side of all elements in transmission, especially on crankshaft (bottom side of it makes resistance, and symetric abrasion )
Mr Ironic, i worked in factory that produces engines for water pumps at nuclear plants and ships, i was surrounded by 100-150 MD engineers, daily, so, you are trying to say how all those people who are specialists in their business are stupid and dont know shit about how does engine works, please, dont be so pathetic, riding a bike isnt just a handling a curve at high speed and to replace piston once in a while.....take some time with chemistry and physics as well...EOD by me
@Gagibit Mr. Ironic here. Ask one of your nuclear water pump engineer friends if it is at all necessary to constantly shock load a rotating assembly three or four times at each stop or if its generally a better idea to use the fucking brakes you silly queen. Watch any on-board video, top level racers don't even do it, but then most of them don't have degrees. So I guess I'm still suggesting that you and your 100-150 non-riding engineer pals to just keep banging away.
ok..fair enough, now you got your point and its right....rapid downshifting is shock load for entire transmission (in such rapid HRPM downshifting can even cause chain to jump foward if bike have a chain transmission)....but braking by downshifting and using a engine to slow down is healty thing for engine...just like i described in post before...maybe we did missunderstood a bit...btw, i am rider, so as some of them too :P
I know this area very well, because I lived in the Czaar Peterstraat for 10 years. Did you by chance own a Paso and commute from Amsterdam at the end of the 90's?
Got a dame like this myself at 118,5 HP at the rear wheel only for racing that is with open pipes, heavenly music and great fun to race. Think I'll make a movie at Assen GP circuit one of these days...Nice little movie tough...must have been some work to make.
bikes are meant to have higher power usually at top end
if i try to shift gears at 6k rpm i will be very slow for sure so i as a result i am use to switch at 10k -11k more or less and do a sweet weelie from time to time:P
You do realise that was a Ducati aye...that is the motorbike with lots of torque all the way through the midrange, not just HP up top like some rice burner.
that it is why i did not buy one when i look to get me a nice bike:)
i look for something more "scary"(like scary movie:P) and i end up with a "rise burner" that pulls out 200km/h in like 10 sec and i do that in midle 4th gear and i have six
God know how fast my bike it is because it sure scare the shit out of me and the ones that i pass by usually turn the heads and like WTF?:))
la moto è bellissima......è la storia del motociclismo....però tira un po' ste marce...mi fai venire il latte alle ginocchia a vedere che hai ancora 3000 giri da usare....
The 888 is every bit the Classic Ducati as the 75 900SS - it was the bike that saved Ducati from bankruptcy & put it onto the road of becoming perhaps the worlds pre-eminent bike manufacturer. I love the 888. It is the 68' Hemi GTX of motorcycles.
And for the twit who is bragging about his big income and preference for cars...go somewhere else. This isn't for you.
I thought it would be on a track, but its better than nothing. Noticed he was always short shifting, guess didnt want to hurt the tranny.. Does these have rev-limiter?
The style, the sound .... gorgeous. This is a bike for real Ducati enthusiasts, not for posers. People tend to forget it's the race success story of the 851 and 888 why Ducati is still around today. If I had some spare money laying around the 888 is what I would buy, and NEVER sell it again. It's a true legend.
