Apperantly people think Masashi only does modern-ish music. I am really depressed to see that barely anyone has heard his music in Unlimited Saga. Because this doesn't even hold any bar close to that.
I don't like Hamazu's compositions. There's no feeling, it's just a lot of busy noises. Uematsu is the best. Although one thing is strange. Hamauzu composed a lot of the good songs from FFX and then he changed his style completely after Uematsu left.
I never liked Hamauzu's FF compositions, but when I heard his work on Unlimited Saga, my whole view changed. It is without a doubt some of Square's best music of all time. It competes with the best of FF imo.
So if you want Masashi's real stuff, listen to the whole Unlimited Saga OST. Now that's magic.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as the Final Fantasy series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
you can see the differences, Nobuo's and Hamazu's. Both are great composers.
Nobuo gives you a more fantasy-ish (not fantastic), yes, fantasy-ish atmosphere. Imagine middle age world with lores of its own, architectures of its own, cultures and races and a lot more. Instant classic.
While Hamazu gives you this modern-y composition. You can see also the fantasy world in another period of time, certainly a newer age. It's just fantastic how all these soundtracks integrate to the atmosphere.
Those who hate this song, doesn't get it at all, and thinks it's complete crap are people who either haven't played the game or people who lack an understanding of music composition.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This sounds like a mix of fucktarded music that goes on during an action scene, and an orchestra. This song is very confused, and not in a good way. Easily the worst track on the ost. Especially when you're forced to grind in areas that play this and only this.
You might want to change the title, Nobuo had nothing to do with the FFXIII OST, it was all purely Hamazau (and that damn Tanaka interfering with the theme songs..)
Nobuo Uematsu dose not work for square enix anymore he has moved on to the company known as mist walker i think its called developed ost's for both blue dragon and lost odyssey i think thats the only 2 games out for the company at the moment both are good had no part in final fantasy 13 what so ever change tittle do your research ...
Can someone tell me who this person is. Is this the, ugh, beaten it so long ago, the thunder snake fal'cie from when your in the temple with the stone giants? Or one of the machines from Caccoon?
I think the new guy(HamauzU or w.e) made the best battle theme in FF. This is the second FF that I imediantly loved the music O_o. I love it like crazy >.< If anywone thinks he doesn't measure up to the past than fine. Sometimes it takes people awhile to adapt to change but by far I like his pieces for the game. Better than any other FF music I've heard :/ Just sayin'
Hamauzu is NOT a new guy. He has been making incredible RPG music for almost 20 years now including many, many contributions to FInal Fantasy music from the previous games. Search up SaGa Frontier 2. The OST is amazing. Sigma Harmonics also has a nice OST.
Nobuo shouldn't have to prove anything to those Enix scrubs tbh, he's got 10 (1-10) incredible results in the past, and it's awesome that he's coming back to do 14 :D

why is everyone complaining about the composer? you guys wouldn't even know it wasn't uematsu if no one told you. i sure didn't and I listen to final fantasy music for 5 years now.
Sure, Hamazu is a great composer and all, I just think Uematsu suits final fantasy better. And what's up with the annoying characters and care talk in XIII? I am of course speaking of Vanille and Hope. They should have dropped the clichês, it makes me sick in my stomach. Otherwise, awesome game!
In the last two final fantasy games (XII and XIII), uematsu hasn't been involved, and I think that has a huge impact on the games. First of all, I can almost remember all the songs from final fantasy VII to X. You could kind of sing along while you where playing, there where much more singable melodies. I miss that now, I can't remember a single song from XII and I can only remember the battle theme song from XIII.
@stevebok Lol. I actually liked the Jazz parts the most ^ ^. They made me want to stay on that part of the game the most hehe. but well- that's my opinion i suppose.
The "jazzy parts" were meant to be played whenever you're playing as Sazh... sort of his own themes. For me they were kinda "meh," and even some onlookers while I was playing said that the music was pretty goofy. But that was just a design choice.
I personally think this is one of the better battle themes in Final Fantasy history, sure, Uematsu is a complete genius, and has made some truly awesome tracks (Omen, Hopeless Desire, Fleeting Dream, Liberi Fatali, Via Alla Flamenco, and loads more) but he's not the be all and end all. Give
@Windshade25 agreed about the victory battle theme. I think the one for FF13 is weak... if they really had to make a new one they should have made it better and more.... victorious.....
Hamauzu wrote the Wandering Flame, Bisaido Island and Attack from Final Fantasy X, some of the game's best tracks. I think Masashi Hamauzu, Junya Nakano and Nobuo Uematsu all showed their flare with that game. Hitoshi Sakimoto is another name in Square's arsenal of talent that should not be underestimated. Listening to this track, I think he had a hand in this as well, actually. It certainly carries his sound rather heavily.
@bleauh Hamauzu is capable of making great songs, no doubt. FF13 however isn't a good example of that. FFX is a better example of Hamauzu performing better. Hamauzu just didn't really make anything standout or memorable for FF13.
i played 7 a couple years ago for the first time. 10 was my first but i prefer 7's atmosphere and tone but i detest 7's easiness. X is pretty and the story's concept is truly awesome in a fucked up way (protagonist doesn't exist).
12 was great but too subtle for its own good, and the development process definitely fudged the game's feel as a cohesive whole.
ff7 was cool as it was presented in the game. AC made it emo and bland (ff13vs)
@bleauh There are some good themes in this game and it's a decent game to play but without Uematsu's trademark sounds like the Victory fanfare (at the very least that), it just didn't quite feel like FF. Very few things link each FF to each other. The music has been the main consistency for a lot of people, myself included. It doesn't make Hamauzu bad but it does leave this game and his work a little disconnected from the franchise.
@bleauh dude hamauzus songs are ok but some of them sound like a news tv theme unlike nobuo uemsatsu whose songs were original and memorable dude theses all crap penis man
@bleauh actually nobuo has made all and ended all no other better soundtracks nobuo were more memorable this sounds like somethign right out of super smash bros melee!! and one of his themese sounds like something from a news channel
@bleauh yeah u right bro :D uematsu is god hamauzu is pretty good, and i really like this track but as u already told, liberi fatali, via alla flamenco and more are VERY MORE audiable that this ;)
Why must we complain? Masashi Hamauzu is a great composer, just look at some of his work in Sigma Harmonics or Unlimited : SaGa. But, I DO wonder why his music here doesn't sound as fleshed out as in those games...
i HOPE UEMATSU comes back someday to the FF series, NOT THAT THIS IS BAD, that's not what I mean, but, imagine if Uematsu compsed the final battle theme for... let's say, FFXVI?
Seriously, I mean most of the talent behind 1-10 jumped ship after the massive fail that was The Spirits Within. Hamauzu and Nomura are really the only talented people square has left.
Oh wait only Nomura now, and the way things are going whos to say he won't leave after Versus is released.
He didn't leave. SE moved to another city in Japan, and he just didn't want to move to that city for personal reasons. It's not because "SE is not the same as it was."
Nobuo left to go with hironobu sakaguchi, when Square merged with enix, they left for the right reasons, and created mistwalker, since then Se has come up with maybe 5 good games in almost 7 years, and kind of ruined the Square/squaresoft reputation at it. Hironobu and Nobuo come back for a game, and it's hands down the best FF since the merger, 10-2 11 and 12, tsk tsk...
Shame to see Hamauzu leave. After playing through most of FF13 already, I can appreciate his work. The soundtrack IMO has been gorgeous for the most part.
Sure, it's not as amazing as Uematsu, but who cares. Coming up with something better than Uematsu is asking quite a bit, and Hamauzu did a fine job in my opinion.
The music definitely has a different "feel" to it than Uematsu's work. ;)
Cheers to everyone waiting for March 9th. You won't be disappointed!
@iStudyNihongo oh i beg to differ...i'm digging this a bit more than uematsu's classics. maybe i've just been longing for something different in mind.
Gotta love Hamauzu's orchestral works with strings
too bad ff14 is online :(... ive played ff11 and im not going to do the same mistake playing ff14. But i would listen to the music for ff14 cuz there from Uematsu.
"Final Fantasy XIII Music Composer Leaves Square Enix, More Employees To Follow"....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!...First akira yamaoka and now Masashi Hamauzu!...some of my favorite composers are leaving...*Sigh*
Uematsu was fired from Square wasn't he? But it's still great he is a legend. FF1-FFX-2, and some of Super Mario RPG... He had some great discography. WEll, I'm new to this Mashashi guy, but I will keep my eye out for him. He has a great discograpy as well...
Uematsu resigned from SE when Sakaguchi did a few years ago but each of them got their own company, Uematsu is scoring ALL the music for FF14 which will bee awesome i trust ;)
Hamauzu Masashi left Square-Enix. I personally do not understand much of his departure, honestly. But I can bet you anything that he wanted to leave SE either because of personal issues or because he hated that gaming company.
"The reason for Uematsu's departure was that the company moved their office from Meguro to Shinjuku, Tokyo, and he was not comfortable with the new location."
This song is pretty epic...I want it! Can't wait to here the rest of the OST.
Even though Uemastu didn't participate in this game's soundtrack, I know it'll still be good. I love Masashi's work as well. FFX, Musashi Samurai Legend and Dirge of Cerberus are some of my favorite OSTs that he worked on.
wow, that's too bad about Uematsu not being on this album/game, but i'm not too upset about it after hearing some of the songs on this game. It's gonna be an epic game with an epic soundtrack. Kinda bad that it's coming out in March (supposedly) since it's during school.
i know this is the battle theme in the demo, but is this confirmed to be the battle theme throughout the whole game? cos that will be sweet i like it (y)
Nobuo Uematsu didn't make any song from FFXIII, SquareEnix was about to let him make the MAIN THEME of FFXIII but when SquareEnix decided to make FFXIV let Nobuo make ALL the soundtrack so the only one who made this fantastic sountrack is Masashi Hamauzu!
:) Hope it'll be same level as old FF's please, please...!!!
Nobuo is great but that doesn't mean that there's no new composer that's gonna be famous. Nobuo were just another guy at 1st but now he's a legend. So in short don't overshadow new composers since their just starting to shine.
indeed but thing this new guy still lacks is how you remember the song,,, he almost nailed all the songsin ff13 being memorable because this battle theme has tons of remixes in the game , i played it so i just noticed ..
honestly for me ff12 ost i can barely remeber their tracks.
nobuo's tracks nowadays are getting stale but still memorable, i dont play ff11 but still loved its battle theme =D
but good thing new people are showing up , for me noone can replace nobuo but lets face it nobou aged alot so the legend himself needs to rest and stay healthy, let the new guys handle the things for him =D. tho he is still working on ff14 lols,, is he working on versus as well?
actually, sourta because the battle system is suppose to be a gratified version of the kh series, Shimomura is supossively ochestrating it, but with a more darker/enigmatic feel to it
great soundtrack, i 've heard of the FF long ago but i never tried them, now im playing the FF13 and i love it, i feel like i missed allot,!! a request pplz if someone can show me some great ost of ff series it xould be aswome thnks!

Seriously, I mean most of the talent behind 1-10 jumped ship after the massive fail that was The Spirits Within. Hamauzu and Nomura are really the only talented people square has left.
Oh wait only Nomura now, and the way things are going whos to say he won't leave after Versus is released.

SE is not the same as it was.
I can see why he left.
pcgeekman 2 years ago 6
@pcgeekman13 is ann improvement in my opinion
redblazerpea 1 year ago
@pcgeekman
He didn't leave. SE moved to another city in Japan, and he just didn't want to move to that city for personal reasons. It's not because "SE is not the same as it was."
SE has always been good, even today.
EnglishTurtle 1 year ago 5
@EnglishTurtle Wrong!

@kaptainkewl What the hell? I was talking about FF13.
EnglishTurtle 1 year ago
Shame to see Hamauzu leave. After playing through most of FF13 already, I can appreciate his work. The soundtrack IMO has been gorgeous for the most part.
Sure, it's not as amazing as Uematsu, but who cares. Coming up with something better than Uematsu is asking quite a bit, and Hamauzu did a fine job in my opinion.
The music definitely has a different "feel" to it than Uematsu's work. ;)
Cheers to everyone waiting for March 9th. You won't be disappointed!

oh i cant wait ive been waiting since 2006
jayubig 2 years ago
@iStudyNihongo oh i beg to differ...i'm digging this a bit more than uematsu's classics. maybe i've just been longing for something different in mind.
Gotta love Hamauzu's orchestral works with strings
chibimaru8 2 years ago 2
I understand. I kinda worded it wrong anyway. I also do prefer some of Hamauzu's work in 13 over Uematsu's work in previous titles.
I kinda said "not as amazing as Uematsu" to appease the masses who think anyone other than Uematsu composing an FF score is blasphemy.
Anyways, I agree that it's nice to hear something with a different "feel" to it as I said before ;)

Uematsu was fired from Square wasn't he? But it's still great he is a legend. FF1-FFX-2, and some of Super Mario RPG... He had some great discography. WEll, I'm new to this Mashashi guy, but I will keep my eye out for him. He has a great discograpy as well...
Snakemast345 2 years ago
Uematsu resigned from SE when Sakaguchi did a few years ago but each of them got their own company, Uematsu is scoring ALL the music for FF14 which will bee awesome i trust ;)

Thanks for the update! I rarely do smilies, but you deserve one. :)
Snakemast345 2 years ago
are you sure he was fired or he just want lo leave square enix
tyxoo 2 years ago
I don't remeber...
Snakemast345 2 years ago
@tyxoo
Hamauzu Masashi left Square-Enix. I personally do not understand much of his departure, honestly. But I can bet you anything that he wanted to leave SE either because of personal issues or because he hated that gaming company.

I heard he left of his own accord

"The reason for Uematsu's departure was that the company moved their office from Meguro to Shinjuku, Tokyo, and he was not comfortable with the new location."

i was kinda hopeing he left after 10 because he though the way enix was guiding the company in to shit he was like fuck that iam off!

I love this song, but uematsu didn't participate in the game's soundtrack.
videogamesfan 2 years ago 2
@videogamesfan didnt uematsu do the japanese theme song tho ?
noobdeagle 2 years ago
that was composed by masashi hamauzu.
videogamesfan 2 years ago
This song is pretty epic...I want it! Can't wait to here the rest of the OST.
Even though Uemastu didn't participate in this game's soundtrack, I know it'll still be good. I love Masashi's work as well. FFX, Musashi Samurai Legend and Dirge of Cerberus are some of my favorite OSTs that he worked on.
Shinharu 2 years ago 2
Uematsu has nothing to do with this Soundtrack. It's all Hamauzu's work.
Pfft, The title is all Lies and Slander!
Theforeshadow 2 years ago 4
wow, that's too bad about Uematsu not being on this album/game, but i'm not too upset about it after hearing some of the songs on this game. It's gonna be an epic game with an epic soundtrack. Kinda bad that it's coming out in March (supposedly) since it's during school.

He composed this piece and the main theme 'The Oath'. So yeah, the only two good tracks in the game.

GamersTunes 2 years ago
Nobuo Uematsu didn't make any song from FFXIII, SquareEnix was about to let him make the MAIN THEME of FFXIII but when SquareEnix decided to make FFXIV let Nobuo make ALL the soundtrack so the only one who made this fantastic sountrack is Masashi Hamauzu!
:) Hope it'll be same level as old FF's please, please...!!!

mazashi will be the next nobuo !! he'll get better and better !!
reggae1188 2 years ago 2
@reggae1188
no one can replace nobuo not in a million chance mazashi is good those but not as good as motoi sakuraba (valkyrie profile composer)
xwulfd 2 years ago
Nobuo is great but that doesn't mean that there's no new composer that's gonna be famous. Nobuo were just another guy at 1st but now he's a legend. So in short don't overshadow new composers since their just starting to shine.
reggae1188 2 years ago
and Eternal Sonata! :)
Bullpupzor 2 years ago
Uematsu is a decent composer but his pieces have honestly become stale and boring. Hamauzu has consistently made complex and interesting pieces.
ThatKles 2 years ago
indeed but thing this new guy still lacks is how you remember the song,,, he almost nailed all the songsin ff13 being memorable because this battle theme has tons of remixes in the game , i played it so i just noticed ..
honestly for me ff12 ost i can barely remeber their tracks.
nobuo's tracks nowadays are getting stale but still memorable, i dont play ff11 but still loved its battle theme =D
xwulfd 2 years ago
Err, Hamauzu had absolutely nothing to do with FF12.
ThatKles 2 years ago
@ThatKles thats why it sucked.
mohdban 2 years ago
@ThatKles
but good thing new people are showing up , for me noone can replace nobuo but lets face it nobou aged alot so the legend himself needs to rest and stay healthy, let the new guys handle the things for him =D. tho he is still working on ff14 lols,, is he working on versus as well?
xwulfd 2 years ago
actually, sourta because the battle system is suppose to be a gratified version of the kh series, Shimomura is supossively ochestrating it, but with a more darker/enigmatic feel to it
