There's a difference though. If you steal from a store, they've lost money, as it cost money to make the CD, the case, and the stock it, and transport it. That adversely affects them. When you pirate music, it's just as if you hadn't pirated: they see no profit or loss.

Furthermore, the only ones getting hurt by piracy are the record companies. The bands see such an abysmal percentage of the profits from sales, that they get most of their money from touring, and not from the selling of the CDs
