Love McCloud series. Bought all seasons at once on dvd :). Just would like to bother with a question... What is that country theme playing in the dvd menu and as i have understood it's McClouds theme in 71-72?..
great show and opening theme! always reminds me of the 1973 NFC EASTERN DIVISION DALLAS COWBOYS (10-4), especially where ROGER STAUBACH (#12) and CLIFF HARRIS (#43) aka captain crash are concerned.
i would definitely use the mccloud theme song as background music in a video about the 1970's DALLAS COWBOYS, especially their 1973 nfc eastern division championship season with a special focus on roger staubach, rayfield wright, and cliff harris.

i just finished watching Mccloud on a station out of long island ny. i caught it by chance when is someone going to get on the ball and get this classic on dvds.if i could i would proboly make millions......................................
Well sorta of a so so show...watched some re-runs lately. I have to say the ones with Diana Muldaur are worth watching....she's just so beautiful and I think she had to be one of the best actresses on tv.
Hey, the theme of this series kinda reminds me of "Coogan's Bluff" with Clint Eastwood. Anyway, I never saw this series, & don't know how I missed it. Granted I was born in 71, same year the series started, I have never seen it in syndication. I don't know if it's any good, so I hesitate to buy a DVD. How was it on a scale of 1-10?
It's basically 40 years old this year, as the McCloud idea/concept was conceived in '69. The first two series differed in style quite from the later ones, they still had a definite 60s feel to them whereas later it settled on its more typical 70s crime show, obviously, so there's really more or less two McCloud periods. I prefer the later ones (no DVDs yet) where this theme's from, series creator Glen A. Larson wrote the original theme, then David Shire wrote the second, this is the third.
"...series creator Glen A. Larson wrote the original theme, then David Shire wrote the second, this is the third."
Er, no. David Shire did the original theme (he wrote it for the pilot movie, which he also scored), then Glen A. Larson did his own theme - "McCloud" only had two themes.
No, you're wrong actually, there were in fact three themes. Larson wrote the original himself (the country/western guitar one), then Shire did one that was slightly different, and then there's this one. That's three entirely different tunes/melodies. This particular one appears only in episodes featuring Stu Phillips' music, if you have the whole series (on tape or disc) it's easy to check it out yourself.
Nope, you're wrong on both counts again. The intro had two quite different themes early on, first one by Larson second one by Shire, then this one. Larson also did create the show, it may have been inspired by the Clint film but it's quite its own. Stu Phillips told me all this, you can ask him on his website and he'll mail you personally. This theme didn't come on the scene before '73/'74, well after Shire worked on the show from '70-'72, that means he's uninvolved in this tune, AFAIK.
Then how come Larson didn't write the pilot? (Step forward Stanford Whitmore, Richard Levinson and William Link.) And where did I say Shire was involved with this one?
So you say Larson did the theme in this clip? He created the show, others wrote the stories, and he composed the orginal theme according to Phillips. If you decide to ask SP, make sure you ask specifically about this particular intro (Weaver on horseback in NY/helicopter, etc.), the most famous of the 70s themes. It wasn't introduced before '74, perhaps even '73 episodes and it stayed with the show until the end. It's just funny that only Phillips' name appears in these episodes featuring it.
Also, Larson didn't create the show to begin with (not only did the series rightly give such credit to the main writer of "Coogan's Bluff," the film the show was a riff on, but Larson didn't even write the pilot movie).
That said, if some YouTuber manages to put up all the themes used in the series and there were indeed three different ones (none of this "slightly different" stuff), I'll admit you're right. Until then, I say there were only two.
@mwhite36 I saw the clips where the "Twin Towers" were first being built. I miss them. They were the heart of New York City and now they're gone. I wish the city would rebuild the "Twin Towers" again, and make even bigger than before.
@willardlockejr the reason they wont build the toweres again is because and i agree that it would be as though nothing happen there.3000 people were murder in those building having the same ones just isnt right, however that dosent mean you cant build a building higher and more represenative of americas will to not buckle under to the crap heads who did it.
@neweast1 I say that you build them again and make them taller than the original. I know that's just wishful thinking, but I just miss seeing them because to me, they stood as tall as the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building and some of the other landmark buildings in N.Y.C. And we should never buckle under pressure to the @-holes who did it. I will always remember them not only this weekend, but we as a people should NEVER FORGET 9/11!!!
that was part of the 1964 worlds fair in flushing queens, still stands today other sstructure is the universal globe both just south of la guardia airport in new york.
they are part of the 1964 worlds fair held in queens ny. its still there will become a landmark soon and matbe restaurant.its exactly 1.5 south of lga airport.you can see it if you land on runway 31 on the left side of plane.....
@willardlockejr yeah mentioned that sometime ago there were almost finished then pardon the pun. i worked right across from the souyh tower till 1999 was there in 93 when they blew up the basement.we should have know then they would try again but clinton was to busy trying to save his presidentcy.biggest disgrace is that nothing has been put up yet to replace them.thats how you shove it back up there asses.
Wow, this brings back fond memories. Who can forget that famous "Hey, there ya go!" Dennis Weaver had class and was a gentleman on and off the camera. Kind of guy boys of any culture could look up to and model. R.I.P Dennis.
Episode was "Park Avenue Pirates" from 09/21/75. Also starred Barbi Benton(Hugh Hefner's former girlfriend), Lorna Luft(Liza Minelli's sister and daughter of screen legend Judy Garland).
I was very kindly informed by Stu Phillips himself yesterday - thank you again! - that the theme is in fact Larson's music. (Unless my request was misleading, and believed referred to original 1970 theme.)
There's a bit of 'conflicting' fan opinions over that it seems, a whole host of possible composers wrote for the show. It's either Stu Phillips, Glen A. Larson, David Shire, Lee Holdridge, Bob Prince, or Henry Mancini. I've come to the conclusion it's Phillips, used to believe it's Holdridge (always thought it's quite 'Holdridge-ish') but his name doesn't appear in the episodes with this theme, only Phillips does.
Hey, do you have the opening from season 4 or 5, when during the opening credits, Mccloud is on a rooftop and he's shot??Don't know if that was from an episode or just for the credits
Show was based on a 1968 film titled "Coogan's Bluff" which starred Clint Eastwood as an Arizona Sheriff who gets a criminal and loses him in the concrete canyons of New York City.
I lioke to see the rest of the series on DVD. I have season one & two but what about the other seasons?
@OreckBoy1 Whatever happened to Terry Carter (Sgt. Joe Broadhurst)? I know that J.D. Cannon (Chief Peter B. Clifford) passed away a few years ago. He usually played the bad guy in a lot of other movies and TV series. Very good character actor and he also did some voiceovers as well. R.I.P. J.D.
This show was based on the old Clint Eastwood movie "Coogan's Bluff", where a deputy from the Southwest comes to New York to extradite a prisoner, then has to find him after he escapes. A GREAT movie that I recommend., and Deputy Coogan has shades of his film "cousin" in San Francisco that would later debut...Two things to remember: Coogan is a deputy sheriff from Arizona.
I don't suppose both "Coogan's Bluff" and "McCloud" inspired Elmore Leonard to create the Raylan Givens character from "Justified", did they? I always wondered that
@toonzguy Thanks, I was wondering if 'Coogan's Bluff' was the inspiration. Agreed.....that Eastwood/Siegel movie is well worth catching and is one of Eastwood's best 1970's films. What was the name of the 1980's police/detective show Dennis Weaver appeared in? I don't think it ran more than one season.
Good for you. It's not airing in the USA, okay? Of course it's airing somewhere. Where do you think this uploader got the video from? Tell me again how it helps me to know that it's still being played north of the border? Some people.
the show was televisions best! rest in peace Dennis.
