I don't understand why you'd comment on my public speaking abilities, rather than the circuit itself. When under the pressure of trying to explain everything and give a demonstration, it sometimes isn't easy to be as articulate as I would like to be.
@patrickikis Because, A: i dont really know anything about electronics... What you made is awesome, i think you and everybodynelse knows that so why should i be the next one to say that. B: i was not talking about you in person but to all those americans who talk that way. Even people in europe are copying this "like" behaviour and it is annoying me every single time.
Don't see my comment as a personal attack but as an act of frustration due the words that makes people sound like douches.
I am Canadian, and I don't talk like that unless under pressure. I agree that I have a problem with "uh" and "Ah", and perhaps "like" when talking in my videos, but that is simply due to myself being under pressure to get enough information into the video.
I touch on that in the instructable. There is a circuit that I've included in the EXTRAS section that would have been used if I had had more time. That circuit would pick up on any changes, including more or less light on the line. In this case, shining a really bright light on it may trick it, but it may induce a shock that may trigger the system as well. Regardless, it is a good question. Have a look at the instructable if you have time =)
In this case, yes. It may have a negative effect on the system, but in the instructable I touch on this. There is a circuit in the Extras section that talks about a schematic that I designed to modulate a frequency on the laser so that if someone tried what you are saying, the alarm would sound.

Dude, that is cool security system you made. Continue the good work man.

wait.... can you just shine a bright light at the panel then walk straight though the lasers?

Rather than lots of mirrors could you have external lasers and and sensors and if any one is broken the alarm goes off?

@fablungo
So cool you should mention that. As I was building this, I talked to my girlfriend about the very same idea! Epic high five over the internet =)

Can the invader trick you system by shining some light on it and make it thinks you turn on the light again?

Once the lights are turned off, the room-light sensor plays no more part. The user must enter the disarm code =)

You need to use a fog machine or dry ice to show the path of the lazer. I wanna see it light the door frame!
brentv8403 10 months ago
Yeah, but that would have cost more. I got the sticky tack and the mirrors for $2 total =)

One thing you could have used are small parabolic mirrors, that would save you a lot of time in aligning the mirrors next time.
