well not to seem to come off as an ass but what do you mean popular? like mainstream? because in my opinion they are already popular outside the radio and what not. but i think their not popular the mass population is because modest mouse isnt a poppish mess of cliche, genericy, and unorignality that most people hear on the radio. which is why i like modest mouse

the only question ill ever have against modest mouse is, why aren't they more popular? albums like the lonesome crowded west, build nothing out of something are just shear bitter-sweet GENIUS lyrics..isaac is the most clever song writer, his metaphor's, contradictions, and criticism are soo true to the way the human mind thinks and wants to say it amazes me. how i relate EVERY modest mouse song to EVERY event that took place in my life doesn't happen with other bands, isaac brock, your amazing.

Sorry I'm replying to one of your comments again, "Building Nothing Out of Something" was the first album I bought of Modest Mouse, and it's amazing! Genius lyrics is right, I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds songs that relate to my life. Some people like to twist them into prophecies and political satire, and while some are, most are really personal and emotional to me. So yeah, I agree lol. :)

@condiersea Honestly to reply to both of you I love Modest Mouse and I guess I am fan of The Beatles (not a huge one but I really like their later stuff a lot), If it wasn't for The Beatles we wouldn't have bands like Modest Mouse pure and simple.

@tomjoad32 okay yeah they did a lot of good things. but people are like oh there music is sooo good. i dont see it. its not that great to me, maybe because im surrounded by all of today's music and there really aren't any firsts or anything new anymore really and i cant really appreciate what they have done some 40 or 50 years ago. and modest mouse would have happened with or without the Beatles im sure.

@scoobyfan2009 You quite honestly can't beat the Beatles. They are one of the most influential bands of all time, and have sold far more records then any other band of today. They and so many bands before the 90s had major influence on every band of today.

Radiohead is something you have to see. When I saw them in San Diego it was by far the greatest concert I've been too. I also would love to go to a Modest Mouse concert.

dude.. sad sappy sucker does not suck its their very first album and it is their sound because IT IS THEM.. and of course it sounds different because almost every MM album is slightly different than the other take for example "The Lonesome Crowded West" and "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" pretty different but both are great

It wasn't even music, and I'm not insulting it, some of the songs wait nevermind I'm not gonna call them songs, more like audio files of text. Some of them were just 2 people talking on a phone etc etc. The music of Modest Mouse can barely be sampled in SSS because there is barely any music. Except for a couple outliers.
