Yep, the SVC Chaos Dan is the best one, and Capcom uses some of the moves SNK loaned to him for that game in Super Street Fighter 4. Namely the Haoh Gadoken. But to be honest, Ryo isn't an original, but more or less, a re-imagining of Ryu. Ansatsuken/Shotokan and Kyokugenryu are pretty much just variations on the same style of fighting. Though of the two, Ryu's is the only one used for the purpose of assassinations (not when he uses it).

Dan was created as a response to SNKs Ryo. They figured he was such a blatant rip off of SFs Ryo and Ken so they based Dan on Ryo and Robert in return. Only, they made Ryo's outfit pink and uglified Robert's face for starters and while most of Dan's moves come from Robert, Robert is one of the best characters in King Of Fighters but Dan is... not exactly.

That said, Dan still wipes the table with everyone else by being Awesome.

Actually, Ryu and Ryo are pretty different if you get to know each one better. Ryo is a shoto and shoto are in many games, but Ryo's pokes, overheads and other moves differentiate him quite a bit, not to mention the properties of his shoryuken and "projectile" (He doesn't really have a projectile anymore though, more or less a powerful punch thing)
