@RaCloFity Laptops are not ver good for editing. I highly suggest you get a desktop computer whether it be a Mac or PC. Laptops can't handle acutal editing.
@SickShortMovies Laptops can handle editing just fine, it's when you get into the feature length full HD stuff that you'll start to struggle. Render times will be the bane of your existence if you do a lot of long full HD quality video on a laptop. For that you'll want a workstation like a Mac Pro or Dell Precision, something with Xeons. That's obviously for the more serious editor (or if you have the money), but laptops are more than good enough for most. I recommend MacBook Pro's for it.
@shadowrain2011 Avid is THE industry standard software for professional video editing. Premiere Pro is starting to get a bit of a look in but it's nowhere near as popular as many think it is. It's Avid then Final Cut Studio in that order. Premiere is a distant 3rd. At the end of the day it's the skill of the editor more than the software they use (granted bad software doesn't help). Premiere Pro is very similar to Final Cut, so it should be easier to transition over in the future.
@TalesOfWar Learn Avid well, and you won't want to use anything else...but you will have to use other products. Personally, I edit in Avid. Meaning put all my clips together inside of Avid. I've found that you can't edit as fast in anything else (and I started out with PPro). But for finishing, I use premiere...for sound, for color, and for link to AE. And you have to learn how to get your projects from one to the others.
hey i hv a question pls do answer guys....i hv done nothng like film schools or some course in film making...i m an engg. student stil movi editing is my hobby...so if i opt for career in film editing...is that d right option???? waitng 4 reply
i use avid pro amazing a to see it in its best work watch my newest video coming soon subscribe but on anouther note this guy knows what he's tlking about
Guys, watch this video again and again, till his words sink into your system. He's plain spoken, no nonsense, direct truth about movie editing. That is it. Only practice makes it perfect and DONT discount talent. Ideas count, not just practice. Sharper ideas, unique ideas that make you stand out makes your work noticed. Then submit those DEMO reels he's talking about to people who want to make movies or ads for TV. Get jobs and paid gigs to strengthen your portfolio. That is it. You're on ur way

when we lived in LA, not many people got hired out of film school... they preferred people who had been in the business from day one and worked with more networks/producers/directors.etc. they also wouldn't hire you if you had one job over a year (at most)... that meant no one wanted you! lol They like to use your knowledge of other places to benefit them...
guys i make trailers with windows movie maker and i want i new programm to make my trailers in high definition...and i want it for free...anyone knows where i can find somethink like that
Get final Cut Studio. It has 6 programs for every aspect of the Edit including outputting to DVD. Its hard to get to know but its fantastic after you learn it.
I have the Windows editor (Windows XP) and a Sony Handycam that makes mpegs. I have not been able to pull my videos into this software. What am I doing wrong?? Is there a book anywhere to help me with editing? I am a photographer and it took me awhile to learn this about photography....how can I learn how to do this with videography? Thanks!
Excellent video, very encouraging. Anyway I'm interested in film and film editing which you'll see if you watch any of my uploaded videos mostly music going with movies but I was wondering.. I've just decided to begin the film program available at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, which would take about 2 years complete. How important is it that I attend a University afterwards any thoughts?
Wow I find your videos informative. I've learned some of this stuff in my free time about editing though I have yet to make an application of such knowledge. It's still good to hear from a more experienced individual.
Thanks for the upload, this video was very helpful to me. I have been looking into a career in film editing for a while and this video proves it is possible for me. Thanks much!!
This video was poorly edited.
