  • Here's a little "Oil Based vs. Water Based" perspective from a veteran painters expeience... I am about to buy a water based hazer, more than likely a Chauvet Hurricane Haze 2, due to the research I done and Co$t, however, regardless of brands you choose, much like 'spraying' oil base vs. water base paints, oil base DOES NOT MIX IN with your respirtory system, therefore, making it easier to 'yak' or cough up, and water base just lingers in your system for as long as it takes to run it's course!

  • Thank you for posting this video !

  • One question for you. I want to invest in one of these but I'm concerned about its affect on the temperature in a room. Do haze generators make a room hotter?

  • I personaly over time have shifted away from using oil based hazers to water based fazers. The oil collects on your lights and whatever equipment you are using.

The Haze Generator is a great hazer. It is just really hard on your lights. I suggest going water based.

  • 0:49 if you look down there theres a small white triangle

  • Couldn't you attach a relly long PVC pipe to the nozzle of a fogger, split the end in 2 so it would lessen the blast. I would only have the button on for a second or 2 but wouldn't that reduce setting off the alarms also?

  • I was wondering where the best place to place a hazer is. I have that same hazer that I borrowed for a house party and have laser lights and some moonbeam lights. Does the hazer need to be on the floor or up high where the lights are?

  • I have been looking into whether to get a fogger or hazer for a while now and I've come across, what they market as a fogger. Although it has 2 DMX channels, 1 for density the other for output. i presume if i was to turn the density right down, this would produce the same effect as a hazer and thus not trigger any fire alarms?

  • haze are very expensive but it does help give that awesome light effects but if a manager says no then you have to go with that if they have a very sensative smoke detector near by it would go off and you are stuck with that bill or wind up in court.

so is it worth spending 400 bucks on haze machine?

  • Thanks. Thorough and intelligent tutorial.

    DJ Wav

  • If you need haze on the cheap, you can also use a fog machine and use a fan to spread it. You can use an empty road case or a big box to collect the fog and avoid clouds.

  • Well,in my dealings with club owners,They dont want to take any chances PERIOD! No fog or haze PERIOD! No,just a little,No Nothing PERIOD! They dont care how your lights look,PERIOD! And if you get caught,GET THE FUCK OUT.PERIOD! So all you Dj's,dont spend your money on Hazers,You will never use them, and you wont get your money worth out of them,Its not worth it!

  • Can you use both? Like have the hazer on and once in a while shoot smoke out just for the show/look? The mixture of haze/fog isn't bad for you or anything?

  • well if breathing the oil-based fluid is a concern...my rule of thumb would be to use water based at indoor venues, and oil at outdoor ones. besides if oil does hang around more, it would be all the benefit of contending with outside conditions.

  • Oil based my hang better, but do you really want to breathe that stuff, gig after gig?

    Not me.

  • @cableaddict Well, your breathing in an extremely miniscule amount, since the particle sizes are so eztremely small. It probably takes up a tablespoon to fill up a whole room 5 times the size of a garage, so I don't think It'll have a large impact on your health..

  • did anyone notice that in this vid by the end the camera lens has mist on it? :P

  • Good video

  • I just set off the fire alarm on Friday at a gig...using fog. I should've took the hazers...fail.

  • just get a fog cooler

  • thanks for the video

  • ´haze machine is better but noisy

  • what do i need to get to do the blast effect like on clubs when the just throw this blast

  • get some smoke machines

    dan

  • thanks for the info man... cheers

  • OMG please loosen the bolt on the tripod if your going to be turning it!!

  • wow. never seen a hazer before. thanx for i guess... showing me that they exist

  • hahah

  • Wait.. So which is more likely to set off a fire alarm... A WATER BASD haze machine, or an OIL BASED haze machine?...

  • An Oil based haze machine, according to Dan, is more likely to set off an alarm, but less oil based haze is nessessary which helps.

  • An oil based haze machine is SLIGHTLY more likely to set off certain types of fire alarms because of the nature of the fluid. However, one usually needs to use much more water based haze to get the same effect thereby increasing the PPM and making it more likely to set off other types of alarms. Just use as little as possible and you will be fine is the bottom line.

  • @SurpriseItzDJBen Oil Based is more likely too, but can be done with water based also. We had one at show that set the fire alarm off. Really the best thing is you can is to have the alarm company shut down your alarm durning the show you are using haze for. You can smoke it up big time and get some sweet beam looks.

  • Very informative! Thanks!

  • I have that same hazer, but have only used it a few times due to venue restrictions. I used it continuously at a school gym once and not a peep from the fire alarm.

  • hey great vid i was acctually thinkin of adding a hazer to my hire inventoy at the moment i only got foggers

Hey also brian what type of magnum smoke machine were you useing? the 550 it looks like i have found with my Magnum 650 the smell is not bad its quite allright compared to a cheapy one

  • Great video, you answered all my questions. Thanks

  • So is the ADJ Haze Generator the best bet as far as a hazer goes or is it worth getting the LeMaitre Radiance.. how much more prone to setting off alarms is the ADJ Haze Generator?

  • Not much more prone... it all depends on how you use it and how the building is wired. Even worst case for the building, used properly setting off alarms is very unlikely.... for us 2 times in 3000 shows. I love the Radiance, I do. But I like oil based better in general and it is worth mentioning that oil hazers use a FRACTION of the fluid of water based ones. LaMaitre makes a great product but you can get 2.5 ADJ hazers for the price of one Radiance...

  • Thanks a ton guys! You've really helped a ton of people out with this video.

  • cool, but I still prefer clouds of fog rather than haze.... Just my opinion

  • the last few videos you have done brian have been some of your most helpful and informational yet... not saying the others are not educational :P

just saying that these have been SUPER DUPER EXTRA HELPFUL

  • kool

great vid! great tip! always kool to get tips that people learn from expierence. think ima get a hazer

  • Question though... Will the ADJ Hazer be enough to fill a 5,000 square foot room? Or even a 10,000 square foot room?...

  • Yes, the ADJ will fill a 5,000 square foot room. it will just take a little longer. 10K? You would want a couple hazers in that room no matter what kind. And BTW, that particular one is the NOISIEST hazer I own. Most of my ADJ's are much quieter and that one was also sitting on something hollow with two of its feet missing.

  • THANK GOD FOR THIS VIDEO! I have been waiting for a video like this anxiously. haha.

  • Great video Brian!

For those of you looking for a quieter, almost silent hazer, check out the Unique2 by Look Solutions; I just bought one and it's great!

  • This guy was great...smoke machines smell nice btw

  • i know right, it smells good :D lol

  • not THAT smoke machine! I have never smelled one that bad before. YUCK!

  • great info!!!!

  • Great Info! With all the venues I've done I have yet to through off an alarm. Now that I knocked on wood, I also use a different style hazer that doesn't have the loud compressor. When the music is going its no big deal. However when I am doing some of the oganized stuff at a wedding where the music is off so I can talk, I don't want that noise going on. I use an Irradiant one that uses a heated similar to the Radience model hazer. Thanks for another great video!

  • what do you use? fogger or hazer? who is it made by? and the name plz. i need to up grade mine and i want something that isnt going to set off fire alarm. and is kind of quiet even tho it doesnt need to be dead silent. i will always be playing music. but anyway let me know thanks

  • This video deserves 6 stars!

  • A most informative video...Thank you!

  • 2 Points to make on the American DJ Hazer which I have been using for over 2 years now vs My old Fogger sitting for the last 8 years....

Hazer: Very Econimical on Juice the stuff just last forever....

FOG: was going through bottles of this stuff...

Hazer: If you over haze...people taking pictures at a party will get a reflection off the haze when the flash goes off. Important to get pictures out the way and save haze for later during the night.

  • and what aboud fog in a spray can i know the sell it to

  • Anybody have suggestions on the least smelly fog juice?

  • Very Informative, good to see you're still at it Brian.

    leftof

  • Thats the hazer that i use most of the time and it works great. My only complaint is the noise of the compressor.

Out of the box they come without any rubber feet. I just added rubber feet and try to place it on carpet and that reduces the noise considerably.

Hazers are deffinately the better option whenever possible. Clients will always comment positively compared to standard fog. I use that to educate the venues.

  • the noise can't be heard over the sound of the speakers....so its not that bad....my ADJ hazer has rubber feet...strange...

  • Sure when the music is loud the compressor can't be heard but the noise can be heard when your playing background music or during soft breaks in a song especially if the unit is sitting on a hard surface.

  • depends on the room size the air flow etc..... if its a big venue i use fog but high up near the ceiling and then i use my haze generator to maintain.... i dont believe in fogging to the point of killing the lights. so good vid.... more clubs need to quit killing us in a storm of fog lol.... practice n enjoy

  • Very informative, thank you.

  • Love the creaking of the tripod for the camera. Other than that, a nice demonstration and tutorial. :D

  • hey, what do you expect for free? Wait, you are from Norway.. you probably expect free things like Health Care. HA!

  • But of course! ;)

Although, we pay through our asses in taxes for it, so it's not really free, hehe.

Anyway, love your videos. Really informative and educational. Bit hard to get into the market here, but knowing stuff like you're teaching us is what can make all the difference.

Keep up the good work! :D
