  • your guitar looks like my friends guitar :D

  • Many thanks for your video lessons. You have made it easy to follow! I bought a guitar when I was 17. after a decade, I still love to learn to play it. I always gave up too quickly. I have decided to give it a try once more! wish me luck! ;)

  • What a privilege it is to have someone like you as a teacher, even more for free. thanks, can i say to my friends that you are my personal music teacher? :)

"An idea sometimes is a lot good but seeing the idea realized is a miracle!!!"

  • Can i do this without plectrum?

  • Yes:

downstrum --> nail of your indexfinger

upstrum --> nail of your thumb

  • is that austrailian or birtish version of pick? at first i didnt get what you meant but then i read the comment below and than i understood interesting. never knew there was another word for pick.

  • guessing you are from Aussie, in Britain when you go to buy them they are called Plectrums, tho we also call them Picks

we don't call them Plecs tho, which I found out to my embarrassment lol

Cheers Justin for this stuff, good karma from all over the world im sure :)

    unsuccessful,

and it's amazing of you to offer these without having to pay. so thank you thank you thank you!

  • You're really doing a great service!

  • justin, thanks for all this generous lessons that you offer. I will definitely going to donate and support your site. I cant believe i m actually progressing with your lessons! Thanks!

  • awsum tutorial!

  • I've been playing guitar for about a year now, but I was completely salf taught. I'd sort of hoped that, coming from a musical background, I'd be able to pick it up fairly easily. But even though I could play, I had picked up some bad habits so I wanted to just go back to basics and improve my technique. Most online lessons I just find really irritating but yours are genuinely so helpful, and I really feel like I'm a much better player now. So thanks!

  • That Was Helpful

  • u rock

  • thx..

    terima kasih...

    GBU

  • Really helpful video, thanks for that.

But not sure about some stuff.. exactly which strings did he play on the upstrum? I'm assuming that you should just play all strings on the E upstrum. Since I hope we're not supposed to figure it out ourselves.

And is he using a pick or not in this vid? For a beginner it's really hard to tell, especially with the pretty bad video quality on Youtube.

  • He is using a pick, a small one. A teacher like him would recommend picks in the first place - picks produce a more vibrant sound than a beginner using his/her fingers. It is preferred that you TRY to strum all strings on the upstrum, although most of the time, you end up strumming the first 3 too loud. It doesn't matter, because the other 3 strings would still be vibrating from the downstrum.

  • very good!

    learning things!

    bom trabalho! (good work!)

    Brazil

  • justin rules! best lessons ever man!

  • This video is by far the clearest and easiest lessons to follow that I have found. learning step-by-step in your own time. Thanks Justin.

  • thanks for cool instruction..

  • yeah i think your series of videos are the best out of all the other ones people tried to do. Great help =]

  • Good work. That's really helpfull for beginers.

  • Which strings do you play on the upstrum?

  • You can hit the first two, three or four strings simultaneously on the upward strum. The first one by itself sounds a bit thin.

  • thank you sooooooooo much!.. yey! hehe

  • THANK YOU!

  • the faster the better, Justin :D

  • Why, you thinking of making a move? LOL

  • justin, you are very good with our fingers, are you single :D

  • haha

  • Great lesson. That's the problem I am having...I'm not able to change chords fast enough so that it doesn't mess up my strumming. Thanks for the lesson.

  • Try to do it slowly whenever you find yourself just messing up. Relax. Learn at a speed you can cope and when you can do it at a slow speed, you can go ahead and try it faster until you're just as fast as the original.

Rather base onto good and slower strumming than on a bad and fast strumming. Maybe this might help you.

  • great video thanks.

  • sthuthiy - thank you

  • thank you

  • thank you, you taught me how to change a string :p just did it today :D

  • Could you please do a lesson on 16th note strumming? =]

  • Thanks a million for all the tips. Keep it up

  • COOl Justin I'm finally learning someting.
