After all, look at the Bear Jew scene: The German sergeant was the kind of guy who, in any other uniform, would be called heroic (and we'd be flinching with every swing of the bat). Then there's Hans Landa who is a little more toward the gray (neutral) end of the spectrum than the black (evil) end. I think the director's intention was to make us look at our own prejudice with this one. But that's just my interpretation.

TARANTINO COULD HAVE USED A LITTLE BIT OF CUTTING TO MAKE THE FILM MORE FLUID. ALSO, LANDA'S MOTIVATION FALTERS TOWARDS THE END WITHOUT ANY SATISFYING EXPLANATION."
I disagree; an intelligent man like Landa can surely add up 1 and 1, sees an opportunity, and chooses for self preservation. You should have payed better attention at history:
- Landa says he likes being a detective, he is good at being a detective, and it so happens to be he is working as a SS detective. His loyalties are with doing the job he is good at, and not necessarily with the Nazis.
- The time is June 1944, which would be just before or just after D-Day. As well as the Soviet invasion.

Most boring movie ever made. This movie is like 3 hours long and only like 20 min. of action in the whole movie. The rest of the movie is all talk, talk, talk, and more talk. If you want to be board to death watch this movie.
I loved this movie. The only real fault I can find with it is that despite having the movie named for them, the Basterds themselves get little focus and almost no character development. Hell, more than half of the Basterds are never seen again after Act 2. It would have been nice if Tarantino had shortened some of the long monologues to allow for more character development.
I agree, Chris Waltz deserves an Oscar for his role. He was just plain evil in that movie.
What an immature person. I thought you did a good job reviewing the film, though I disagree with what you said about Landa. I thought it made perfect sense that he would want to win the war and get credit for it. He was a very oppertunistic character who took advantage of everything he could, so it made sense he would want to do that. He seemed smart, too, and probably knew that the Nazis were going to lose the war, and knew he would be percecuted and likely executed if they did.
Chistoph Waltz should win the oscar if he doesn't i'll be pissed. I usually don't like brad pitt...but this role was one of my favorites by him. Tarantino is picky about who he casts and this movie wasn't his best but it was brilliant.

There might be many points in that...actually he could have used that,to produce a strong feeling of dismay for the nazis within the viewers, but he did not make use of this technique^ ^
This is the second time Manny whines about Landa's character shift at the end. It's not that hard to understand. He's an opportunisitc and self-serving man who's more loyal to himself than the Nazis, and THAT'S why he turns himself in.
:) this was actually the first...I made this review, then I interviewed Christoph Waltz and asked him, straight from the horse's mouth so to speak, my biggest problem with the film. I understand your point of view, but here's where I'm coming from...every character has shades of foreshadowing...to understand their depths...so when Landa did a 180...I was taken aback...but Christoph did a great explanation of it in my interview...thanks and have a great week ahead!

I disagree; an intelligent man like Landa can surely add up 1 and 1, sees an opportunity, and chooses for self preservation. You should have payed better attention at history:
- Landa says he likes being a detective, he is good at being a detective, and it so happens to be he is working as a SS detective. His loyalties are with doing the job he is good at, and not necessarily with the Nazis.
- The time is June 1944, which would be just before or just after D-Day. As well as the Soviet invasion.

Thank you Manny obviously doesnt understand Landa's character. He was never in love with the idea of being a Nazi, he was a rat playing on the winning team. As soon as he saw that he could change the winner he sucked it dry for everything he had ever wanted. Lt. Raine saw that and with his crave for nazi blood he made landa pay for his selfishness

I loved this movie. The only real fault I can find with it is that despite having the movie named for them, the Basterds themselves get little focus and almost no character development. Hell, more than half of the Basterds are never seen again after Act 2. It would have been nice if Tarantino had shortened some of the long monologues to allow for more character development.
I agree, Chris Waltz deserves an Oscar for his role. He was just plain evil in that movie.

What an immature person. I thought you did a good job reviewing the film, though I disagree with what you said about Landa. I thought it made perfect sense that he would want to win the war and get credit for it. He was a very oppertunistic character who took advantage of everything he could, so it made sense he would want to do that. He seemed smart, too, and probably knew that the Nazis were going to lose the war, and knew he would be percecuted and likely executed if they did.

Chistoph Waltz should win the oscar if he doesn't i'll be pissed. I usually don't like brad pitt...but this role was one of my favorites by him. Tarantino is picky about who he casts and this movie wasn't his best but it was brilliant.

My favourite Tarantino film since Pulp Fiction.
This film is classic Tarantino, but slightly different (in a good way) probably because its set in the 1940's
I thought Christoph Waltz and Brad Pitt were both excellent.

Did you notice, even though the nazis were bad in this movie, tarantino did not show any scenes, in which those nazis killed somone brutally?(just shooting or once choking)
There might be many points in that...actually he could have used that,to produce a strong feeling of dismay for the nazis within the viewers, but he did not make use of this technique^ ^

This is the second time Manny whines about Landa's character shift at the end. It's not that hard to understand. He's an opportunisitc and self-serving man who's more loyal to himself than the Nazis, and THAT'S why he turns himself in.

:) this was actually the first...I made this review, then I interviewed Christoph Waltz and asked him, straight from the horse's mouth so to speak, my biggest problem with the film. I understand your point of view, but here's where I'm coming from...every character has shades of foreshadowing...to understand their depths...so when Landa did a 180...I was taken aback...but Christoph did a great explanation of it in my interview...thanks and have a great week ahead!

i actually enjoyed this one. it doesnt deserve its #43 but i guess it deserves an 8.1-2. but my favorite tarantino movie and one of my top3 movies is RES DOGS! the reservoir dogs are a CULT. its not just a simple gangster movie, its a socially-engaged movie.
