All of her elements and jumps were better than Poetzsch. She should have been placed 3rd or 4th and Poetzsch in 6th or 7th. The judges were very clever in the way they spread the marks in the short program. Many believe it was Bielmann's perfromance in the LP that cost Fratianne the gold. Not so...it was the spread of the marks in the SP.
I always liked her, and I am glad she was able to medal there.
But it is curious to see how such things as speed, flow, basic skating skills, intricacies of steps/in-betweens, the quality of jumps, etc. did not really make much of a difference in the scores back then (also see Poetzsch's SP from the same competition).
The more recent scoring systems would have MURDERED Lurz while greatly benefiting skaters like Watanabe (w/ great speed & flow, big jumps, good presentation, etc).

I was a big fan of her back than and now I'm asking me why? She doesn't have any charisma at all.
