  • I appreciate your story and can understand where you are coming from. I was a teacher and school librarian. It is tough. Currently I work for the public library and I like that a little better. I am in school hoping to get a masters in reading. I am not sure where that will take me, but we will see!

  • @NappyNFree I'm appreciative of your comments and ability to relate. I have worked in the public library and really enjoyed helping willing participants find what they are searching for. My concern is how strapped some cities/counties are and they always cut public library funding which equates to staffing. I am going to continue to be prayerful and aware and ready for my next opportunity. Best wishes on your masters in reading.

  • I know what you mean about job burnout. It's very real for me too.

  • @Haitian1130 I could use a year off and work on ME!

  • I feel you but you know I have been your biggest fan as far as the arts go...I think that is what you need to pursue. Your next venture should be into that area check with ur local tv stations see if you can do an internship yes thats right intership if you are good they may hire you from that its usually 1 day a week. I think you would be great at that...

  • @bahianut I appreciate your words and continued support. I am not sure what my next steps will be but I think I've outgrown working for someone else. I need my own hours and flexibility. Don't get me wrong, I find myself working on my own projects 15 hours a day but I no longer enjoy a "structured work environment". I will keep you all posted about my adventures! Thanks again!

  • Good luck girl, one day at a time

  • @avaloncar18 Thank you! That is exactly how I'm approaching it.

  • I try to do a VR to this to play the Devil's advocate, given I am a parent myself.

  • @bossgal3 Thanks. I look forward to it!

  • Me and you both was up at the same time, LOL and I didnt go the work the next day toooo...LOL And I am burned out! LOL

  • @bossgal3 LOL. Girl, I guess it's the season of burnout! Judging from the comments and responses I've received, many more people are feeling the same way.

  • What I love about this is that you listen to your body and spirit. Many who experience this do NOT...they just keep going and going, then have to pull themselves from a very deep hole...mentally, spiritually, physically. We all do our best when we live in our purpose. Kudos to you!

  • @MsSassyLaRue I love the way your phrased it because it's perfect and absolutely the truth. I realize that I cannot give anything to anybody when I have run out of energy, gas, patience, etc. My intent is to always live with purpose. Thanks so much for your wisdom!

  • oh yes we all get there with job burnout I know you have had your work cut out for you this semester and yes those mental health days come in handy!

  • @TheNaprika I am trying to hold on because Thanksgiving Break is just around the corner and then there's Christmas Break! Mental health days have helped me for the past 2 days. Thank you stopping by!

  • Hang in there. I substitute every now and then and feel your pain. I am now a stay at home mom with a CJA degree who went through burn out after years of working in the social field as a correctional officer, family services spec., welfare and inmate casemanager. I got injured ( by a child) and had to have surgery. I missed out on so much of my family taking care of others so me and my hubby chose for me to stay home. It is hard too but this is my chosen career & it brings me joy... MY FAMILY!

  • @ohsonatural1 Well I know you understand it too. I can just about imagine how you burned out with all of the stressful and "get involved" situations. In the end, you and your husband made the best decision for your family. Continued joy and happiness to you!

  • I am going though the same thing right now...i am ready to work for myself instead of someone else. financial freedom is what we need...i wake up everyday and have to pull myself out of bed.

  • @AfroMohawkable I am amazed at how common job burnout is! So many people have expressed the same sentiments. I know exactly how you feel about having to pull yourself out of bed. I hate it. It's time for change. Thanks for taking the time to share. I hope you too find the peace and happiness you're seeking.

  • I am right there with you. I need to find work that brings joy to my soul.

  • @iHealthy2010 Nobody said it would be easy but change is inevitable.

  • This is not a bice place to be eh? Teaching can be so painful these kids are too much sometimes. i will be praying for you as you decide what to do...

  • @kimvannie92 It is a bit of a challenge right now. All it takes is a few who decide to act up and disrupt the whole learning process for everyone else. Thanks for your prayers. I accept them!

  • I was an Art Teacher and it burned me out for exactly the same reasons. I left teaching for good 2 years ago and I'm not looking back. I LOVE the children but I'm a creative person and the day to day workload and stress was draining. I recommend that you use your downtime to seriously unwind and then think about planning an exit strategy if it doesn't pass.I feel you..hang in there & breath.

  • @goodessarts3374 Thank you so much because I KNOW you understand. I have some of the best students too and I love them and know they need me. But it's the total chaos of the whole system that causes burnout. I will take your advice and unwind and think about my next move. I'm hanging on and breathing! Thanks so much. I appreciate your words more than you know!

  • I can relate, this happened to me in 2009, i had to take a break from work all together and ended up lasting almost 18 months (the break) hahaha :) but it's no joke. I hope you find a new purpose soon, i am in need of something new too, as you know i am a high school teacher, so i know exactly what you are talking about. Guess what, it's 7am, leaving the house in a minute, and today we finish at 8pm cos there's Open Day at my school, not looking forward to this!

  • @louloumatou Oh my. We have those long days too and I dread them. Where else can you work 11-12 hours a day and not get a big fat paycheck for overtime? Not sure how it works there but it's described in the "other duties as assigned. . .". It's all becoming too much. If I'd rather be a sequestered JUROR on a serious case than to be at work, it's time to GO! Thanks love for your comment. I hope you have a great day!

  • Have you considered looking into other avenues of librarianship? Maybe its just the school setting that is burning you out.

  • @cocoapeach School librarianship has been my last stop as I've done academic and public libraries. I could possibly find a new school environment but I just figure I'm burned out and need a complete change. But thank you for your thoughts.

  • Great video! I'm burnt out too! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to the upcoming videos.

  • @MsRosieVelt It was a relief to speak publicly about it! I have more to share. Thanks for watching.

  • All of the blame is directed toward the teacher who has the child for a limited portion of time. You're right... where is the accountability for parents as well? I know what you mean. Sadly I don't take enough private/personal days when I feel burned out. I just press through by looking forward to the next holiday. In the spring those break days are scarce.

  • @ibyl If I didn't take my days, I would have been gone! I know you know how this year alone has been filled with foolishness. Why did an administrator ask ME how to evaluate me?! If you don't know, you probably shouldn't be asking me! From top to bottom - Foolishness! Gossip, unprofessionalism, laziness, etc.! I've had enough.

I appreciate your input and understanding.

  • I may be doing a vid response to you. I actually was going to record a video similar to this one last night but decided to wait until the weekend. I will be recording it tonight. Thanks so much for sharing and I can relate to being burned out.

  • @LuvnDaNaturalMe I look forward to your VR. I only recorded today BECAUSE I took off work. Just from this video's comments alone, more and more of us are experiencing burnout! Thanks!

  • Wishing you many blessings and all the best with your future endeavors! Are you leaning towards a career in technology? You seem to be very skilled and talented in that area.

  • @20pearlsNcurls Hey Lady! I do enjoy technology and would prefer willing subjects who are interested in what I have to share. Kids just don't seem to care. I am generalizing but it's rampant. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • This video is right on time for me. Thanks for sharing!! It helps to know you are not alone :).

  • @KinkyTresses It seems many of us are experiencing the same thing. And you are right, it DOES help to know that we are not alone. If my video helped you, then I've accomplished exactly what I'd hoped to do. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

  • O.k. you know I'm going to make a vid response to this one cuz baby!!!! I'll send it to you in about 1 hour, cuz giiiirrrrlllllllll, ya girl is with you on this subject for real!

  • @VickyVue I look forward to it! I am on the road right now meeting my Dad but I do have my ATT mobile card. I will approve it as soon as I see it come through! Thanks for your support.

  • good for you can you share where and how you were able to find this scholarship, considering my PHD and do not want any loans

  • @dofdestiny10 First let me say that it was through God's Grace. Secondly, I opened my mouth & told people what I needed. I got the first $600 grant because it was for students studying library science. A man had set up a foundation for his late wife who was a librarian. The other one had been available for YEARS that my mom's company sponsored but had been kept a secret from African American workers! So I qualified because my mom was employed at Presto! Check around online for scholarships too!

  • @dofdestiny10 My mom accidentally heard someone talking & one of the corporate bosses was visiting & she asked him about the scholarship. He gave her all the details. He had no idea that it was made available to all employees & their children! But no complaints, it came just when I needed it. There used to be a book the detailed scholarships of all kinds - you just have to meet the requirements. Be a single woman studying . . . Live in a certain state. . . I don't remember the title. I'll check.

  • That's right Chica. Follow your dreams and make it happen. Great vid.

  • @11zeaky Thanks Diva! God's Grace & Mercy has carried me all my life. It's when I decide to hem and haw and not step out on the tested and proven FAITH that I experience all the foolishness! Thank you for your continued love and support! I am going to make it happen. I was home today and happened to catch E. Bernard Jordan! Again, he too was speaking directly to me. I had to look around the room! He has a new book "The Laws of Prosperity"! I downloaded it to my iPad to day! Awesome!

  • Wow, our college experiences were so familiar. Almost exact, minus the graduate scholarship. When we get that burnout it's time to move on. I found that in my last job, I hated going in to work and my job performance suffered. I say go for what it is that you desire and live your dreams. When we have that passion for what we love we throw all of ourselves in it. I totally feel where you're coming from. You should definitely take a break. Take care, CL! Oh, you look so pretty.

  • @EvelynParham Thank you. For obvious reasons, I debated about whether or not to put this video up but I felt a strong pull to go ahead and share. I knew that someone else would be able to relate. I bet many of us have a similar story to tell. I'm excited that you could identify with me. Burnout is real and I know it's time to move on. I just don't know the appointed time.

I really enjoy creating YouTube videos! I am going to continue doing them and see what happens!

    Thank you for watching.

  • @thecreativelady The time will show itself when it is time. And when it does, you will have so much peace.

  • @EvelynParham Point taken and accepted! Thank you EP!

  • Amen sis!! Burnout is real. I used to quit several times a day when I used to work. A mental health day is only good for a day. I knew when the burnout was coming and staying...I had to leave! I did a video similar to this, but it was too personal to post. I may re-shoot it and create a video response. Be encouraged sis and positive energy to you.

  • @whoissugar Thank you Sug. I knew you'd feel me. Burnout has taken up residency in my home and tries to steer my car in the opposite direction from school every morning! I know it's time to do something different. I'm trying to finish out the school year but I don't know if I can. I almost didn't post this video either because it felt too personal but I did a little edit here and there and it was good to go. Thank you for the love!

A video response would be great!

  • Good Vid. I was burnt out too. It is certainly time for a change. I grad from College in 1989 and it was a recession then too. I should have done an internship too. We majored in the same thing! lol I read Les Brown's book years ago. Michael Baisden has been talking about living your dreams. I have been thinking abt what's my next move too. Thanks for sharing.

  • @mpenny226 Wow. We have so many alikes! This is what makes YouTube the best place to be! It was a hard decision to take off a semester for an unpaid internship versus finishing in 4 years. Thank you for commenting!
