Also, I guess the British version was censored, since mine doesn't have the head falling off. (Yes, my copy is the one I got when I was 7, still in perfect working order)
I was like 7 when i first played this game and it absolutely terrified me but I just couldn't put it down, to this day the Resident Evil series is my favourite series, and this is still pretty much my favourite game of all time.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album 'Unhinged' which is inspired by great games such as the Resident Evil series. You can stream or download the full album for free on my youtube channel!
@ItsTheDairyQueen oh, did not know that, you are a true fan of the game i see, i had it for the PS 1 and 2, then had RE 4 for the game cube, I'm anxious to see how Veronica X looks for X-box...Thanks for the info
This is actually not the original scene, the original scene (In england anyway) never had the head drop off, only the biting and then the head being turned, perhaps is the japanese version or somthing?
@KaptionKnowsBest I think this might be something like that. Cuz the version I played never had the head drop like that either. I don't remember it in the directors cut either, so it would have to be japanese.
@shinypoon When I played this as a kid I would get really paranoid playing it. I would force myself to unplug my playstation and separate the game disc as far away as possible because I was afraid the game was gonna start playing by itself.
I used to watch my brothers play this game starting when I was about five or six. I wasn't traumatized. Except I was afraid to go upstairs alone for years because I was convinced there would be loads of zombies herpderping all over the landing. Still obsessed, though.
@NekoBeau Lol when I was a kid upstairs was my saving grace, because duuuh Zombies can't climb stairs they'll just fall back and (oh the mind of a 8 year old)
My dad was playing this when I came home from school one day when I was 6. I thought it was boring exploration until we got to this scene and he immediately turned off the TV. The frantic rumbling of the controller is all I remember afterward, almost like a cry for help.
...and that was how I came across Resident Evil. What's your story?
@Bulzeeb15 My dad put this game in the system around 10 on a sunday night I was 8. I thought the exact same thing you did "Oh what is this some kind of lame crime mystery game? What was up with the opening? What was with that dog?" Then my dad goes into that hall and I see this thing hunched over. I'm thinking it's a statue at first and he's going to find something off of it. Then it moves... and even worse it turns around with that cold look on it's face. Thus the seeds of nightmares were plante
The newer version of that zombie looks far scarier. Resident Evil scarred me for life when my Dad played Code Veronica and the dead emerged from their graves.
when i was a kid this whole fucking game gave me nightmares. for like a year straight i couldnt sleep without thinking zombies were gonna come up the street in the middle of the night. now i play this shit on a regular basis. funny, i guess there's just something comforting about killing those fuckers that scared me shitless as a child..
this zombie has a place in everyones memory, if you didnt get scared by this son of a bitch as a child you are not worthy of a place in this day and age
I remember playing this game in 1998 when I was 3 years old! My parents bought me the game and neither of us new what it was about. When I saw that first scene I would always hide under my blanket and when the zombie attacked my character, the vibration controller scared the crap out of me. This game TRAUMATIZED me but now its actually a very funny game.
@chris63336 Thats actually the one I dont own, but cause I can't get ahold of it! I am missing RE2 on DreamCast and N64 but thats not important. And I have Gaiden on my phone untill I can afford an actual one. I also have the Chainsaw contrller for PS2, the Limited Ed. GameCube console and a STARS messanger bag haha
as a kid this part gave me nightmares, then one tragic day in 96' I lost my memory card which means I had to start over and of course see this part again... I just went back to playing crash bandicoot :)
I was only 5 or something when i first saw this scene. Its genuinely does have an effect on you. Im now 19 and RE1 still scares me. It stays with you.
I remember when I was four and I played this. I wasn't scared of the zombie scene, but rather that I didn't know how to equip weapons. I ended throwing the controller at the screen and running behind the couch. Resident Evil was my first video game I ever played, and I still play it. I still throw the controller at the screen.

@paynexkillerAOTF well, I've played the REmake much more than the original. In the REmake, the blood drips on poor Kenneth's face, then the zombie turns around. As for a Japanese version being MORE violent? I lol'd!
BTW i was feel sorry for those kid who didnt feel these experience on this game its fucking scary i remember play this game on 1999 motherfucking scary O_O
Here I am...16 years after RE1 on the PS1 came out in 1995, somehow that damn zombie doesnt seem to give me nightmares. He has nightmares of me when I put them bullets in his head.
I started with the third ,and I was extremely traumatized that I couldn't sleep without seeing the zombie head in my mind ,so I ended up sleeping with my older in the same bed XD
my first memory is this bit right here, and it made me cry soooo hard that today i can never play that bit of the game as chris unless someone else is fast enough for thezombie to not appear when the camera changes.

After being fucking scared shitless, the damn camera angles and the reverse controls made it worse when i tried to escape, me pissing myself didn't help any either. Atleast there were Jill sandwiches.
I remember when I was 12 I made a costume for holloween attempting to be that zombie for holloween since it scared me back then.. I ended up looking like a clown..
OMFG, I walked in on my uncle's playing this game when I was 5, I was scared out of my god damned mind. I screamed like a bitch and ran behind the couch, then sucked my thumb in the fetal position. Perfect timing, huh?
Ok, when me and my brother had this game on the ps1 never showed the head falling. It was just blood in the corner then the zombie turned round. Fuck why did we not get the full thing?
It's eating him, and then it's going to eat me...OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Hey, that head dropping on the floor was definitely not in my european pal-version of the game. Is this some "uncensored" version? NTSC?

OMFG, I walked in on my uncle's playing this game when I was 5, I was scared out of my god damned mind. I screamed like a bitch and ran behind the couch, then sucked my thumb in the fetal position. Perfect timing, huh?
8ballsix27 1 year ago
Ok, when me and my brother had this game on the ps1 never showed the head falling. It was just blood in the corner then the zombie turned round. Fuck why did we not get the full thing?
