This is the saddest thing I've ever seen, and some of the comments I've read are really heartless. How are those people supposed to know that stage would collapse? They aren't idiots, they're passionate, and that's something a lot of people just don't understand.
I hate it that people don't learn, and people keep dying on account of other's greediness. When will we stop being so apathetic, saving money on safety and/or not canceling a show due to bad weather? Not to mention letting in the show three times more people than what the place can hold or the security can protect. This all happens because people keep saying "Chill, Everything'll be OK", because they don't want to trouble themselves with the effort of thinking what can go wrong.
my cheerleading coach, meagan toothman, was the 7th person to die from injuries when this happened. ive known her all my life and she was the sweetest girl ive ever known! RIP meagz! I love you and i'll miss you forever!

this is why i like general admin. shows. you pick where you want to be. close or far. the people in front, possilby paid high ticket costs and sat in shit weather so they can get crushed in this tragic event. the seats on the ground, usually held together by zip ties, i am sure made it harder to get away.hence 7 tragic deaths and a scar on the name SUGARLAND and the promoters who did not cancel due to weather. cancel a show and lose money or keep the show and be responsible for 7 DEATHS!
i was working on construction of such a stage once and all i can say is this is probably the fault of the "profesionals" who built it. i saw many many safety issues and in the 8 hours i worked there a horrible accident happened (70 metre steel tower fell on a workers leg - fucking horrifying) and it was probably because of people getting drunk at the construction. the organisers should really not try to save money on safety
not really a good thought out festival, and i don't mean the stage, because i don't know anything about that. but i see those wooden/plastic chairs you can fold up. if a fight breaks out, those chairs will be flying everywhere : / (as been proven allot in the past) at festivals, they should avoid glasbottles/glasses chairs or anything that can be thrown
@GraveJoker1993 no, they did not blame it on terrosrists. A big storm was coming in with a lot of strong wind. That's what caused the ceiling to fall. There were five people that died in it.
I'm in live tech. It's horrible to see that speaker stack on the left fall down onto those people. From my experience, I know that those things literally weigh thousands of pounds. What an awful occurance this collapse was.
This is really sad to watch. My prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones...But there are some people leaving comments who I wish were under that stage as it fell.
i heard that some people r going 2 sue sugarland for having the concert in those conditions, but the truth is that people died every day; its horrible but that life. i met the band, sugarland and i heard their interveiw with different radio stations they were so increditably nice that if they would have known that the stage was going to collapse THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE CONCERT and risk everybodys lives. we cannot control the weather. it was an accident build a bridge and get the fuck over it.

Terrible tragedy, but why don't these event organizers learn from the others that have happened recently in Ottawa, Belgium, Oklahoma. High winds, thunderstorms shown on radar approaching the event location should automatically result in event cancellation or delay and EVERYONE, including stage hands, MUST clear the area, with security posted around the perimeter of any danger zones to keep people out.

@shamanarian One way to help prevent these types of tragic accidents is to establish a safety certification program for event professionals - organizers, stage hands, security, etc. It doesn't have to be as extensive as lots of other professional certification programs but enough to ensure that when these types of inevitable accidents occur the only damage and loss is to the structures and equipment, not to people, It should include hands-on prevention and response training and mock drills.
So heartwarming to see so many people run forward to help. And so typical to see the cops just walking around like idiots. I guess they couldn't find anyone to brutalise.
It was a horrible tragedy, but it was heartwarming to see so many people run forward to help. It was immediately after the collapse. They didn't even have time to think about it, they just ran to help. It restores my faith in mankind, and makes me proud to be a Hoosier.
Wow! My prayers go out to the familys, to Sugarland aswell as the State of Indianapolis. My girlfriend and I went to the Sugarland concert here in Texas and we had a great time ( it was an in door concert.) I hope everything will be worked-out with the lawsuits. This is a scaffold. The design should have been signed off by an engineer. Where is the blue print with a P & E stamp? It has to exist! It should have been inspected DAILY! OSHA standards require this! This is a travisity. Diagonal bracing connecting the outer legs would have solved the problem.

Someone knew what kind of weather the stage could withstand and if there was a 10% chance that kind of weather would arrive they should have cancelled and lowered the stage roof. when you build an outside stage like that, you secure it with ratchet straps that go from each corner truss and any other weak or precarious spots, down to a stake in the ground, or sometimes huuuge cement blocks with a hook to fasten the strap to.
...even winds of 30mph can do damage on stages. theres no reason that stage should've been free-standing like it was. whoever put that show on cut some MAJOR corners. so sad.

i heard that some people r going 2 sue sugarland for having the concert in those conditions, but the truth is that people died every day; its horrible but that life. i met the band, sugarland and i heard their interveiw with different radio stations they were so increditably nice that if they would have known that the stage was going to collapse THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE CONCERT and risk everybodys lives. we cannot control the weather. it was an accident build a bridge and get the fuck over it.

Theres one of a multicar accident in russia where the people are actually dying right in front of the camera and all these assholes did was ask which way to walk. They were leaving the people trapped in those cars. It's the most angersome video EVER. Theres another of a semi smashing a car to bits and EVERY car keeps on going. Every one. I know my people. Terrible tragedy, but why don't these event organizers learn from the others that have happened recently in Ottawa, Belgium, Oklahoma. High winds, thunderstorms shown on radar approaching the event location should automatically result in event cancellation or delay and EVERYONE, including stage hands, MUST clear the area, with security posted around the perimeter of any danger zones to keep people out.

@shamanarian One way to help prevent these types of tragic accidents is to establish a safety certification program for event professionals - organizers, stage hands, security, etc. It doesn't have to be as extensive as lots of other professional certification programs but enough to ensure that when these types of inevitable accidents occur the only damage and loss is to the structures and equipment, not to people, It should include hands-on prevention and response training and mock drills.

It was a horrible tragedy, but it was heartwarming to see so many people run forward to help. It was immediately after the collapse. They didn't even have time to think about it, they just ran to help. It restores my faith in mankind, and makes me proud to be a Hoosier.

My girlfriend and I went to the Sugarland concert here in Texas and we had a great time ( it was an in door concert.) I hope everything will be worked-out with the lawsuits. And it is sad when ever anyone dies unless they have down wrong. This is a scaffold. The design should have been signed off by an engineer. Where is the blue print with a P & E stamp? It has to exist! It should have been inspected DAILY! OSHA standards require this! This is a travisity. Diagonal bracing connecting the outer legs would have solved the problem.

Someone knew what kind of weather the stage could withstand and if there was a 10% chance that kind of weather would arrive they should have cancelled and lowered the stage roof. What's too much of a chance to risk a life? 5%? 2%? What's too much of a chance to risk damage to your expensive stage rig? 20%? 15%?

when you build an outside stage like that, you secure it with ratchet straps that go from each corner truss and any other weak or precarious spots, down to a stake in the ground, or sometimes huuuge cement blocks with a hook to fasten the strap to.
...even winds of 30mph can do damage on stages. theres no reason that stage should've been free-standing like it was. whoever put that show on cut some MAJOR corners. so sad.
