  • hm... as a jeet kun do practitioner... Piguaquan isnt used in kickboxing or ring sports... buuuut... I trained in this art for a very short time... and found that it can be combined with many other arts... the swiping and swinging motion is very good when pushing forward in kickboxing...

  • I train Tong Bei Quan and it is very similiar in the case of the swinging hands, the part 0:33 until to 0:47, The relaxed soft hands, but strong like iron. Also the power comes from the backbone...

  • @KingJohnGalba These arts are very close

  • ....Isn't this Pi Qua Quan??? I saw the waving hands and knew it had to be. I was looking for some more signature moves that I'm familiar with.

    -Sir Joshua

  • @Catsinabirdcage It's the pigua zhang practiced by baji quan practitioners. It's a combination of both arts in one form.

  • very good congratulations atennm ..... casram,, lima-peru

  • Thanks, i'll look forward to the DVD. but i'm more looking forward to getting there to train with sifu zhou ")

BTW i didn't mean would it be good in a ring or as sport. just that a lot of people on the street tend to throw hooks or kicks that come round like kick boxers.

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

I kind of thought that would be the answer ")

Another question i have is can pigua deal with a kick/boxer?

Is it a well rounded style, would be a better question.

The only info I can find on application is sifu zhou's (in fact the only info on the style i've seen is sifu zhou's) and i've been looking for at least 2 years LOL

    Thanks again

  • @piguafan it's hard to tell cause the were created for different reasons. Pigua is not a ring sport martial art. It's useful but no art is complete. It's very difficult to spar with it cause one cannot control the power of such swings.

Due to many people's request Master Zhou agreed to video some Pigua material in our last martial arts camp in Israel and we'll make a DVD out of it. It contains 4-5 basic moves + how to use them and their variations.

More information will be posted in the future

  • i like the look of this and hope to get over to train soon.

    how practical is this style?

is it only good at a distance?

i've seen the rest of the videos and see that after the opponent attacks, sifu zhou ends up in close. but what if the opponent is close to begin with would this be where baji comes in or could pigua cope with it?

    Thanks

  • @piguafan it's a good question. I don't think there is one correct answer cause it all depends on what you know and the exact situation. Maybe you'll use baji and maybe you'll keep on using pigua (which also has short range weapons like the shoulder).

  • I wanna do the fifth attack, I'll use it in college

  • @dapithapon What's the Fifth attack and why would you use it college, as oppossed to fighting in general?

    -Sir Joshua/忠水八

  • @Catsinabirdcage I'll use it in college, in fighting

  • fast, very nice

  • is there any pi gua teachers in Taiwan?

  • I'm sure there are. I just don't know any

  • There are plenty of liu yun qiao lineage baji/pigua teachers in taiwan, but I think it would be very unlikely to find this kind of pigua.

  • Those basic Palm drill are they made to be blend together under various applications?

  • More or less. Originaly Pigua had only 12 basic hands. Later on the forms where created.

  • is this what they called the five formed fists?

  • I don't know what's "Five formed fist" but I don't think it is.

  • I am wondering where there are some pi gua teachers. Can you help me out?

  • Absolutely NO. Wu-Xing Quan(Five Formed)is a branch kind of Xing-Yi, it is a kind of Nei-Jia practice(Means Inner Strenth, such as Tai Chi), Pi-Gua is sort of like Wai-Jia practice(means Outter Strenth, like Shao-Lin Kung fu),they are much different.

  • Nei jia means inner/internal family/sect. Wai jia means the sama but external. The mandarin word for strenght is li (third tone if I'm not mistaken).

Wu Xing Quan is not a branch of Xing Yi, though I believe there is a Xing Yi form called that. Wu Xing Quan is more related to the martial arts of the Shaolin Temple. It is said that the creator of Wu Xing quan (Bai Yu Feng, I believe he was called) was asked to teach at Shaolin.

  • AWESOME
