the order is

1. say it -declare to all-shahada

2. do it - by your actions- pray salah

3. clean money - disperse among needy 2.5% of annual holding above declared base. (always with salah in quran).

4. gain will power- abstain from normal indulges only because you pledge to your creator.- saum

5. prepare - do a full dress rehersal for the final test- hajj.

zakat is before saum.

They are ALL compulsory. The shahadah is critical, but after that I think it is improper to give order to what is more important than the the other in the remaining 4 pillars, since all 5 are compulsory.

I always considered them in that order too, purely because they fall in that order if you sort by frequency or time spent on each pillar over lifetime.

However, I was simply suggesting that there is no right/wrong order amongst the pillars because they are all compulsory. The presenter didn't say he was ordering these by frequency or duration or importance. He just said, first, second, third.

Doesn't matter though. :-)

Insha-Allah we can all try to fulfill all 5 obligations.

No, Maghrib is the first salat, because the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, where days begin with the dusk and ends at dawn.

Assalam Alaikum Bro, U mentioned that the first prayer is Maghrib... but the first prayer of the day starts with Fajr (before sunrise), then Zuhr, then asr, maghrib and finally Isha, the night prayer

Islamic day begins with Maghrib. You begin Ramadan (or any lunar month) after you've sighted the moon "after maghrib". 1st Ramadan starts as soon as you see the moon. Ramadan ends as soon as you see the moon of Shawaal "at maghrib". Each islamic day begins and ends at Maghrib. But I believe there is a debate about which prayer is the middle prayer of the day. With this view, Fajr is the middle prayer. With your view Asr is the middle prayer. W'Allahu Aalam.

Actually Salaah is the second pillar, the Shahada being the first. I think he chose to put the salaat in the fifth place just to go on to the main subject.
