Football cake: How to make pull-apart football cupcakes

I'm curious but is there a way to make brown icing so I don't have to use chocolate to make this cake? My mom loves football and I'd love to make this for her but she's allergic to chocolate :( Would love a reply! Thanks!

@TwistedChyld hello, im sorry that your mother is allergic to chocolate, i love chocolate. a substitute for chocolate frosting is using a plain white frosting and add brown powdered food coloring. for my sons first birthday last year i needed red frosting and added the liquid food coloring to the frosting; bad idea--the icing became hard and thick, then quickly dried up.

@babytristansmom Thanks! Yes, it can be hard, especially since my mom used to eat a lot of chocolate before she became allergic. Is the brown food coloring common in local stores? I don't recall if I've seen any besides the usual red, yellow and blue.

i think it´s too much of frosting. Frosting is very sweet so you need just a little bit not that much .

How to make a football cake. (Not made of cupcakes): Get a rectangle cake, get a football template , cut it out ,do a crumb coat and freeze for how long. Do the final coat, smooth it out and decorate.
