America has given us plenty of things. There may be far more of them on the bad side including wars and weapons which are bad by definition, but atleast among the few by definition good American inventions there is Jazz.
Wow, the andrew sisters are so bad ass...i never realized how rad they were...im 27 people now adays need to sit back and open there minds to music like this
I'll be ..............! My I was born hearing this music!! Mu lullabies were by Glenn Miller, the Andrews Sisters, Der Bingo!! Isn't it grand to have been born in 1935 and in Peru (WWII did not reach South American Pacific coast. Pure delight! Now, 76 years old I remember all this with great nostalgy. Don't worry about "furtherm.. " or "Balti..." This is really delicious!
Another correction: at 0:34 it should say "I CAN afford" It makes no sense to think it says "can't" and then the next line says "I've got my fare" If I have it, then I can afford it.
Your welcome @KaiserAugustus72. Lol, okay okay. I'm sorry for my mistake. It is Baltimore everyone. Sorry everyone, it makes sense that once you're done reading a magazine you're in baltimore.Thank you for clarifications. I used an iPod to go on the Internet so I could hear it better. It is. Forgive me :) Lol, I live in Hawaii :)
@beyoncetyratina it's baltimore.. I live in chattanooga. it's baltimore. ;) I promise. if you go to the chattanooga choo choo website it's got the original lyrics. :)
@beyoncetyratina It's Baltimore. Think about it, you leave Pennsylvania and by the time you have read a magazine you are in Baltimore....because you are headed to TN.
I'm sorry but I agree with anglianoyt here : it's Baltimore.
Not only do I think I hear them sing that but I just googled " Lyrics Andrew sisters Chattanooga " and the first 3! sites i checked all say Baltimore.
Futhermore (haha) Pennsylvania and Baltimore seem to be about 'a magazine read' apart on google maps.
Many, many thanks. A great song: Just one note: at 50" isn't that "Baltimore" rather than "furthermore"? I'm no good on American geography but that's what I always thought it said.
@Rezqewr The shoe shine boys I see around today, especially outside the U.S. where they are numerous, are about 8 to 12 years old. If they were that young back when they were common in the U.S. how on earth could it be considered racist to call a 10 year old male a "boy"? You expect to say to a 10-year-old "Pardon me young man"? This song was about having a cool, laid back life style in its time, not that kind of stiff formality.
Typically, the shoeshine "boys" at the train stations in the 30's, 40's, 50's, etc. were black men, as were the porters on the pullman cars. My grandpa was a Santa Fe railroad man in that era.
@TheEmofreak333 According to the info. on Wikipedia, it was recorded on 'May 7, 1941', and famously became the first song awarded a "gold record" on 'February 10, 1942, for sales of 1,200,000' copies. That's not the 1930's dude!
@beyoncetyratina that should be "I can afford, to board the Chattanooga Choo Choo", not "I can't afford".

I'm singing this in chorus, but it's a little bit different. Us sopranos sing a little higher, but I like it like this(:

Pardon me "BOY?"
"Or you can give me a SHINE?"
Sounds a little racist, to me. . .
Rezqewr 6 months ago
@Rezqewr
Creating racism where none exists is stupid. A shoe shine boy? Come on.
