i think thats Leon Sylvers with the long hair at the beginning in the sound booth....Howard is one of my fav male voices and Shalamar one of my fav groups
@SillySinger1990 i recall at the release of this album, jody and jeffrey had a war hoin' on with howard and quit shalamar. it was a " thing " at the time.
those fringe benefits keep me from sneaking out got to help each other fight temptation and have you ever noticed those games that people play so hard to get next to love without getting involved girl lets take it further! some of the best songwriting ever from howard hewitt!
my humble top 10 shalamar joints 1.there it is 2.4 the lover n u 3.a night to remember 4.in the socket 5.2nd time around 6.make that move 7.plaything 8.full of fire 9.you got me runnin 10.dead giveaway. not necessarily in that order, and theres @ least seven more i want to add, cept its a top ten list so i cant.
Funny how Jeffrey Daniel, Howard Hewett and Jody Watley has that classic sound combination that we all know and love. The Shalamar before those classic 3 teamed up was just alright and when Jody, Howard, and Jeff split up, the Shalamar after them couldnt fill their shoes! Hell, they couldnt even tie their shoelaces!!
@kablice Who would have thought that the brother on the back row of the Sylvers would go on to be a great songwriter and producer. Out of the 8 brothers and sisters, who's still in the business??
Howard Hewett - the sweetest and most unique voice. Saw Shalamr recently at the O2 London - minus Jody of course. Brought back many good memories.........
this video is erie to me because this was when Jody Watley & Jeffrey Daniel left the group right before the video shoot was scheduled. This was the sign when Shalamar fans was like "Where is Jody & Jeffrey" then it came out a week later.
im not gonna say micki free was a true replacement for howard...but its evident that he did control the future of shalamar after howard left especially with the change in the sounds of music..i mean the look was semi new wave...but still rnb...it was heartbreak with mickis help that turned it into true new wave, back to rnb and new wave when howard left...so basically sydney justin phsyically replaced howard...but not musically or production wise...it was micki free, its why shalamar declined!!!
is that the the BMW dick griffey bought for howard hewett, after he stuff a million bucks in his pocket? hewett, griffey & sylvers got their wish no jody watley & no jeffrrie daniels by this time.
This is a song i played non-stop for days, from such a great album - Dead Giveaway. And a little dedication to Bel if shes reading this. x-x This song is for her
Jody and Jeffrey had left Shalamar due to conflicts with the label and Howard's ego. Howard and the label decided to release this single and video before they recruited Mikki Free and Delissa Davis
@mach1man22 Shalamar was a group with 3 talented members. Jody and Jeffrey brought their dancing and vocal talents to the group while Howard used his vocal talent. He was the 3rd lead singer but was a member of a group
@7olusegun this was the last time the classic lineup of Shalamar worked together. on the day this video was shot, Daniel, Watley & Hewitt were not getting along at all , in fact Jeffrey and Jody refused to leave their dressing rooms or even SPEAK to Howard that day. Jody is in the goofy hat and dark glasses.
I kinda suspected it that Jody took Howard for granted over their relationship dealings for a long time and got her fingers burnt to a crisp shock. This mainly made her to leave the Shalamar group, to go solo and having a sweet success revenge through the fire and passion in her music career over Howard (though it was kinda shortlived). On the surface, Shalamar appear the ideal group with each other; deep within it was a completely different story.
This has gotten Leon Sylvers III all over it!!!!!! Classic track, one of my favorites from Shalamar. I hate they broke up around this time when "The Look" was starting to make waves.
