I remember when this was on the tele in The Netherlands. It's still my favourite ad, and one of the few that make me actually interested in the company. Such a shame I can't drive.
I first saw this advert with the sound off as I frequently silence TV ad breaks. Without the dialogue, it made the "We live in modern times" strapline and overall tone seem rather more "modern" and provocative than Renault intended. Try it.
The son in the car does the French version too, and says the lines in fluent French too! I was impressed to see that he did the lines in both commercials.

Fake, and Gay.
No, really. It's Fake, because it's an ad with actors, and Gay, well I know crossdressers aren't always gay, but it's a pretty safe bet. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
LOVED the video. I wish more videos were so sensitive.
I'm glad that someone in the media is taking a positive stance on the trans community. Far too often the CD/Drag Queen angle is used to ridicule us as mentally ill wierdos. That's one of the big issues with living in America, Land of the Repressed, Home of the bigot, with cruelty and injustice for all. Granted there isn't anywhere in this world yet where any of us can be out and open without fear of judgment or hatred, but it's nice to seem someone at least trying to be positive.
@SchwarzeWitwe2 for context, I'm a 19 trans woman living in Vermont in my first year in college, and when I wrote that comment I was still in the closet. Since that time I've come out to my family and most of my friends and I've been living out and proud for more than 8 months. I absolutely love the friends that I came out to and the new ones that I found in college. Vermont is a great place for queer people of all types, we love everyone here!!!
I thought this was hillarious when I first saw it on TV and yes, it is a brave format. I think the guy knew his Dad was a crossdresser, hence his recognising him in the queue and think his retisence was due to his friends in the car. But crossdressers are not always gay. I know a guy who CDs and he makes a good woman yet is hard as nails as a man. His son is in the British royal marines... no one is bothered about him in drag. Great advert.
@blackpoolrok It's only an advert... the character isn't real, the advert's just trying to show that the cars a load of fun and is versatile, it's not about the characters at all.
@skinbruv This is my favourite advert ever, completely agree with what you said, I also like how it's kind showing acceptance of things like this, when you look at the other adverts in the Twingo campaign. I also love it when the French guy says 'we live in modern times'. Classic advert right here!
Agree the ad is funny, but don't think they were brave. Like the lola ad. The advert is using the slogan "We live in Modern Times" to show almost make light hearted fun out of a topic, but using the beauty and features of a cool car as a reason for ignoring the obvious. Very funny.
That made my day. Pity no american car companies would want to be associated with such progressive thinking

Ugly and a little bit sexist. Like blackface. Nothing agaisnt the acuarate drag queens who actually try to look like a woman. They're the cool ones.

This is a beautiful ad. look at the vulnerablity in dads eyes.. the fear that his son will express dissaproval and anger.
And then the breath taking relief Dad has when his son smiles and reassures him its ok.
makes me believe this world is not that bad....
