What do you prefer? the flip ultra hd 3rd generation or the Kodak zi8? but i also heard cisco is gonna stop making flips so that's a down as well. Please, I need your opinion..or is there a better camera than both of these?

@smileyismaface Get the Kodak Zi8 its way better than a Flip Ultra HD because the flip tends to blurr at dark scenes and has no macro so if you close up on a object like a iPhone it will blurr but if you have the Zi8 it wont blurr it will focus in to the object. Therfore the Kodak Zi8 is the one i'll get ;) There are way better cameras out there but for a cheap good camera get the Zi8, and one note the camera doesn't have the best audio so keep that in mind :)

This camera is very zoomed in and has no angle. I think its very HD, but in dim light, it's so hard to see. It look s pitch-black. For $100, i guess it's ok... but if you would like something where you can't see the shadow when you move, at all, or don't want to see the pixels in a (barely dim) area then go for something in the $250- $300 pricerange.

This is a great camera. It's only 100 bucks too. When I started out $100 cameras were horrible quality. This is HD and it works great. Audio isn't the best.

What I would suggest, if you are planning to do a multi-camera shoot, get a few of these and 1 really nice camera and use the audio (with a good mic. of course) from the really good camera.

I've done that and it works perfect.

you need one of those wind stopper mics for recording outside, especially on a windy day. This camera is great for the price, I would suggest getting an external mic for filming outdoors though.

but this cam was bulit for also an external mic as well.

You need to pay attention - most of the time the cheaper price is on the 1.6 MP model and not the 5 MP model

Like I mentioned above...the lens is not a wide angle, so it magnifies shake that much more. You go full screen with this and it will make you crazy with the shakes. I'd much rather add my own audio to my films so the wind noise factor is mute for me...You cannot walk or be driving and use this camera as the shaking will be intolerable. and like I said above...final cut pro does have an excellent shake remover in it's software package...works so well it's scary.

I find the zi8 shows a lot off shake with walking or in cars...too much for my eyes. All mics display the wind noise problems...maybe it would be fun to make a mini- dead kitten wind blocker for this. But really, it's the shake that will drive you nuts. I realize that this camera does not have a wide angle less which would greatly reduce the shake. Well, there is final cut pros image smoothing software to help with this...for those of us who have it. Camera needs exposure control too.

The Z18 uses the H.264 MPEG-4 Codec so you need a PC player like Quicktime or VLC player.

720p/60fps is very good for fast action like sports, but for less action shots you could achieve very good results with the camera's 720P 30fps setting.

picked up a hdr-tg7 with 16gb external storage card for 450 Eur ebay. You get what you pay for. Especially when you stay up till 3am in the morning to make sure you get a great online deal. Sure I was tired the next day - but it was all worth it for the best pocket Hd cam on the market.

I bought my Zi8 last week and the firmware update (1.06) was already installed. I've had no issues with "jello" movement, lines on the view screen, image stabilization problems, etc.

As has already been mentioned several times in the comments, the Zi8's most lack-luster feature is the mono audio input. It's pretty weak, especially in noisy conditions (like wind, football games, crowds, etc.). But this is a simple fix- look into a small external stereo mic and you're good to go.
