MJ, EWF to name a few let us remember that all gifts come from the father above that were destined to be given to these souls. God made us to do so much and there is beauty in many forms of music that dont fall under gospel and trust me I love gospel. I understand you cant sing everything. I love Yolanda too but this was simply a poor song choice and poor performance based upon a very high standard a standard Yolanda herself has set. The duet with Chaka is equally bad, which is tough for me to say 'cause I love her, Chaka, Prince & Stevie.
I don't think the world will ever know any greater innovators than Prince, Stevie, or Yolanda rehearsal or the lack thereof is no challenge for them. Part of Yolanda's greatness is the message she delivers & this song's message... 1:13 is the first time I've heard her voice fail her, too worldly a song!
i wouldn't call it a "fail" - it was an unplanned register switch. i never heard her voice fail, but in some performances it was very tired (Clay Aiken Christmas Special e.g.). i also remember some interview on this performance - it really was an "last-minute" thing - chaka asked her personally to perform. i think somebody withdrew himself from it - even chaka performed at her own tribute which is not common
Thank you for you posts & your comments please keep them coming, however Yolanda's voice cracks quite clearly at the aforementioned position something that rarely happens to her particularly when spreading the gospel. She is still a phenomenal singer with a beautiful spirit which is why Yolanda didn't decline Chaka's request but she should have.
