It's crap, I agree, the classics and sheet music was very much up his streak, this here is absolute musical nonsense, objectively speaking and subjectively it makes me angry.
@princeashtonsdad too abstract and lacking in flow for me . though no doubt the fingerwork is of a genius it's a bit mechanical and amelodic , more like an excercise than something for the ear !
Yeah, Liszt as a composer at least was one of the best. It would be interesting if there were only some sort of recording of Liszt's playing to be able to compare his style to Cziffra's.
it's difficult to speculate on their playing styles,i would've thought them similar,cziffra was hungarian as you know and liszt was influenced by hungarian peasant melodies
First tune is Duke Ellington´s "Sophisticated lady" or rather Cziffra´s impressions of it, as he doesn´t really adhere to the form of the song.While it is always fascinating to hear this virtuoso I would hesitate to call this jazz but rather improvisation with some jazzy overtones. I don´t know what the second song is except it sounds Viennese,Straussian. Interesting

@marcelmombeekpiano
this can't be him. Almost any big classical fan hates jazz, for a lot of good reasons that is!

@Kinjutsuu
Not sure what you're responding to, but what you just said was complete bullshit.
twooffour 2 months ago
@Kinjutsuu you're wrong. Cziffra was one of the very best improvisers of all time, and even he was a classical pianist.

This really makes me wonder if Liszt was actually any better than Cziffra.

well i think cziffra was a frustrated composer as he could'nt make a decent melody to save his life
