i liked vortex's clean vocals in dimmu borgir, and i missed him at first when i heard abrahadabra.... until I heard shagrat's version of clean vocals, like in ritualist. Raspy and a little creepy. I like Shagrat's singing just as much as vortex's now, so i dont think dimmu borgir lost any quality, music's still pretty great too

There were many reasons for them letting the two go, it wasn't just them fucking up on stage and that was pretty minor compared to the rest... After ten years some people just don't have the drive, or motivation, or get lost in the ego mind, I'm sure we all know people like that, that do things that annoy or are down right stupid and wrong, and they do not see it that way, when everyone else does.. You can only put up with it for so long.

the Fact is actually, vortex, while he is awesome, does have a huge Ego. and so does Shagrath. Vortex left Borknagar because of his Ego and joined the "fame grabbing band" dimmu, leaving Bork to hire Vintersorg. So it doesnt surprise me that he eventually had a falling out with Dimmu. however, Vortex is absolutely Irriplacable, and really Dimmu made a bad move in letting him go. Mustis? meh..... he was awesome, but never really metal anyway.

One of the things that made them stand out from a lot of other black metal bands was them being okay with putting keys first and basing the guitars around them. Mustis is one of the main driving forces behind Spiritual Black Dimensions - In Sorte Diaboli (both were made ENTIRELY on keys, and he's composed entirely songs like Progenies and Fear and Wonder, to name just two). Musical differences made them unique

Mustis is actually very awesome, one of the reasons i used to listen to them. my taste in sound changed, where Guitars are concerned, and used Mustis and extra keyboards in general to cover up the less than impressive guitars. wen i say he isnt really metal, check his bio. he was never really in the metal scene at all until dimmu. btw he had the Coolest corpsepaint, Shag jsut looks like a shark now.

@OushGisher Id like to hear him in another band (a better band) besides susperia . his BEST work really was on Spiritual Black Dimensions, which was the last dimmu i REALLy liked. and his compositions like Progenies and Eradication Instincts Defined were EPIC. but see thats the problem. when it gets like that, it doesnt feel like black metal anymore, it sounds good, but the guitarwork suffers. i would class dimmu as Symphonic Metal.

That statement on their website about the two fucking up on stage was such bullshit. Shag and Sily just need to pull their heads out of their asses. Being the dedicated musicians and strong personalities that they are, they wouldn't keep them for ten+ years if it was true. This shit happens to all bands that get famous.

I heard the Wacken performance of 'The Insight and the Catharsis' and at that really epic ending, I heard Mustis' piano go a bit off tune. I thought it was to make the music sound creepier, but if this happens often then I'm not surprised they're having problems. I assumed that they'd practice, but eh. What about Vortex though? I'm pretty sure he recorded this part, and that the pycho blonde recorded hers separately, because when you lower the pitch on both of them, they sound nothing alike. I think they must've done it in a different key, and then, once he was gone, re-recorded everything in a higher key so it wouldn't sound like him.
