I saw Louie Armstrong in person in 1954. The band was on a plywood stage, and we sat in fold up chairs looking right up at him. When the concert was over, he invited my friend and I back to his dressing room and we talked for a good :30 minutes. No pics, no autographs, just sat and talked.
Had chill bumps throughout the whole song...It's so beautiful. Why can't people see, that this is music? This is what we should fill our iPods with, not modern day "music", no, this is the real stuff
This is the theme song in a little known Bond film, starring George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Given the content of the film where the song is sung, it's even better than listening to it here. George only did one Bond Film, but frankly, it was better than Connery or Moore or any others and it was different than the others have been also. Bond was more interesting and human. He fell in love and married, which is the basis for his personality in the other films and his women.
well of all the songs out this and what a wonderful world would have to be the best ever im so glad I live in the 5060 70 now that what I call music :)
@Micah2706 You do know. Many people from 13-18 years love this music. Boys in fact play many video games with this kind of music. (Mafia II. GTA IV. L.a noire and fallout). Thats how i began liking older music. So its not that special your 17 and loving this music :P
Oh, God, I'm crying! This is so beautiful... I can't describe my feelings with words.. I want people like Armstrong back! Why there's no such music anymore now? Wish I had lived in 50/60/70's , because that's when the most wonderful music was composed.. Why the world is so different now?
@janetallthetime U really love it, I didn't cry but, think about the women situation, or the economy or the wars, hungry in the world, it still here but the world its better right now, OK, we've got justin bieber and mily cirus, the jonnas brothers and others, but.... OMG! there is no reason to live!!! LOL
I love Amstrong and ella fitgerald like u, think about that what i said, i'll do later LOL
@janetallthetime Its more like. 30/40/50/60/70's where the music was at. Frank, Louis, Dean, Rad pack ore was what it called. Guy mitchell. Many artists. Bing cosby (Ore crosby. Cant recall again). :) I wish i was young there. Sadly im young here with all the bad pop. Oh well.. A guy is allowed to like dubstep and classics right :) ?
I want you to know that you are not the only the only one who responds to this wonderful music in such a transcendent way. Beauty does still exist in today's world, but they were so much better at creating it back then...
Maybe it's down to us to find ourselves the next Louis Armstrong, and bring some warmth and beauty (and that feeling which words can hardly describe) back to this world!
@janetallthetime I did grow up in the 50s 60s 70s and it was majical , where have they all gone,, I thought there was a saviour in Amey Winehouse ,, and we where having a come back of beautiful music, but poor amey never made it
@janetallthetime it's called evolution, it's never a bad thing, well, it is, to those who won't accept change. but there's a simple way to avoid change... change the world to the way you want it. make the music you want to hear.
@janetallthetime Please Allow Me To Agree With You Janet. My Son Plays 2nd Tenor Sax in A Jazz Band Band here In Carterville Ga. and they Play All the Great Standards of the 40s, 50s, 60s, Its the Etowah Jazz Society & They Get $400 a 1 Hour Set, with a 2 hour Minimum.. And Ever Red cent Of It Goes To School Kids Here That cant afford Band Instruments and our Local Homeless Shelter & Scholarship. Thanks for Your Indeed Beautiful Post Janet. Seeing Our Son Makes Mom & Dad Cry With Joy.
@janetallthetime I was very young and would hear this on different variety shows. Then in my teens (early 70's) I was fortunate enough to hear all the classic rock and go to many shows. However, I've always also loved Armstrong, Bing, Sinatra, Doo Whop, etc. Now we have YouTube and can relive many of those great artists performances. Even if we weren't around for the actual performance. Peace
@janetallthetime: its all because right now music is created with carelessness, people only see its worth to sell and for makes money. they dont create songs with their heart, mind and soul...
5papa they are not deprived of this music at all, actually to be fair thanks to sites such as these like you tube. they have greater access then they ever had before to great music. and more and more young people are hearing and appreciating such great music and using it to fill their i-pod memory and to create great music for their own generation influenced by massive talents from a by-gone age. So instead of feeling sorry for the young of today why not support what they do produce
God know how I love this kind of musics.........most of my friends said that I'm a nerd.....but through these years.....now most of them often ask me to sing this oldies whenever we meet........it's more than 20 years after high school and I'm still a nerd who listen to this kind of musics with a good happy life..........
I'm 18 and I absolutely love Louis Armstrong. I wish today's music sounded like this. People my age are really missing out on something that sounds so beautiful.
is not that easy to bring good music to radio. For example, here in Chicago one of the most popular radio stations (Q101) went out of the air just because some stupid guys sold it. Now days the only important thing is the profits it produce; they dont care about what people would like to listen to, money is the only thing that matters.. sadly
@somerandomtallguy@5papa I can put some jazz on the local radio, its easy, but the hard step is to be listened. but in my town, its still alive, there are music schools, rock and jazz concerts, the fear i have is in 50 years, what music will be?
You guys can make it come back if you ask Radio stations to start playing it again. It is very good to hear young people say good things about this type of music. I have 5 grandchildren and I hope they all grow up and listen to this type of music. I am inspired by all the good young people of today. The problem is the bad ones get all the publicity and ruin it for all. May God bless you guys.
I didn't think I could ever love anything as much as Andy Williams' version, but this comes awfully close. Satchmo does the song proud. This is absolutely brilliant. Thank you for posting it!
Have u lied? Have u stolen? Jesus said if you look at a women with lust you have committed adultery with here in your heart.
If God judge’s u by the Ten Commandments will u be innocent or guilty? Does this concern you? The Bible says despise the value of your eye compared to the value of your soul. would u sell your eye for a million dollars? And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. needgod.com
this is seriously one of the most beautiful songs, and each person who covers it really adds there own touch. its such a song of true caring and growing up and everyone can relate :)
@SeeSawAway Im sixty next week, where did that go? even as a stupid fun loving idiot I always liked this song , Andy Williams had a bit of a hit with this and he was also great but this is beutiful,
This man contributed to creating modern day music. We are indebted to Sachmo. Rest in Peace my friend you are the best. Thumbs up my friends because it's true.
The classic never dies. Reminds me of dad driving us to kindergarten while Armstrong played over the radio of his old Peugeot. No they dont make them like this anymore, people and cars. To Daddy who left me a lifetime of memories though i knew you for just 16.
There are many fine young people out there today. It's just that they don't hear this kind of music played anymore. I was raised with this kind of music and it was so relaxing and easy to listen to and seemed to have a steadying influence on a person. There is a lot of good music today but a lot of what I hear young people listening to is, what I would consider, morbid. Filthy language, graphic description of rape, murder, sex, etc. Not your fault though. I was born in '41.
@MichyDVC seriously your 15 get a life seriously and in all true honestly please just get a life appreciate this music for what it is but please been 15 find something in your own generation of music that you can hold onto call it yours and that will give you memories of our childhood not someone else's that is why music is music, and ultimately that's why it grows
@philandsacha Hmmmm u say "get a life" because I hate the shitty autotuned music of today? And I really wouldnt want to remember the songs that are all autotuned and sound the same, it seems they just copy the instrumental from good songs but then just change the lyrics. And for some reason every new song that comes out seems to have a random black guy rapping in the middle of it so it can also fit into the category called "hip-hop".
@MichyDVC I respectfully disagree! Haha, well blink 182 was not bad in the day. Too poppy for my taste, but they had some good stuff. Not the best vocalists though and not so great live.
@5papa All music is not awful today and all the music back then was not great either. Every generation repeats that same thing like it's a revelation about the generation before. This was not a million seller in its time, BTW. Jazz was not top 40 then and it still isn't.
@TruthSerum101 I agree with you somewhat. I am not one of these guys that walked 9 miles to school, uphill both ways. Most songs are not million sellers. Most music of this sort is easy to listen to and has a soothing effect as well as good sound. I don't like all types of jazz music either but I do like Louis Armstrong. He was great. You are right about every generation repeating things. Though I will say this. Some of it is true. Music being one of them.

@ziggmyster55 I didnt mean like beautiful vocals or anything ;)

@5papa All music is not awful today and all the music back then was not great either. Every generation repeats that same thing like it's a revelation about the generation before. This was not a million seller in its time, BTW. Jazz was not top 40 then and it still isn't.
TruthSerum101 3 months ago
@TruthSerum101 I agree with you somewhat. I am not one of these guys that walked 9 miles to school, uphill both ways. Most songs are not million sellers. Most music of this sort is easy to listen to and has a soothing effect as well as good sound. I don't like all types of jazz music either but I do like Louis Armstrong. He was great. You are right about every generation repeating things. Though I will say this. Some of it is true. Music being one of them.
