I've loved this song from the first time I heard it. Never saw the vid until I found it here on YouTube a couple of months ago. The 80's had some really great music, Billy was a big part of that, this song in particular.
But I gotta say, the Lizard-man-thing who wastes Mr. But-tugly and steals the pink-haired cutie, creeps me out sooooo much. I kept hoping that once they were outside the bar, he'd rip off his mask and turn into Billy! I hope for it every damn time I watch this. LOL XD
Funny. Its been so long since I saw that video, that in my head it was more Dark Crystal than Star Wars. But now it's so obviously Mos Eisley. God that song is awesome though.
Now that I think of it, a whole lot of music videos of the 80s were seemingly inspired by the type of sci-fi worlds seen in the Star Wars movies. Though, that "type" of sci-fi was kinda the "universal" thing back then. It was probably one of the most imaginative types of sci-fi too, because it seemed to take everything and the kitchen sink into account, and didn't try to be realistic or logical. Super fantasy of science fiction.
Holy shit! I haven't seen this video in over 25 years. It looks like a cheap rip off of Star Wars lol. Awesome song, though. I remember hearing it on the radio often back in '84.
Kinda Reminds you of star wars when there in the bar and obi-wan chops that guys arm off, theres jawas in this video, the main guy kinda looks like Yak-Face!
ok...chic @1:52 looks like a fake-ass 'kira' from 'the dark crystal'...but i LOVE it!!!!!...i'm a star wars fan and all that!....guess that's why i love this video!!!!!
I loved to look at this video by Billy Ocean, it brings back so many memories, and you also see that he has a sci fi artistic imagination side of him as well, love can be found even on distant worlds as well. LOL, I miss the 80's era so much, but I thank God at least I grew up in such a wonderful time.
Yes, this video is pretty Star Trek (no offense, my favorite ex LOVED Star Trek)...But how can you ignore the voice, flow, and meaning behind the song?
I wanna be your lover,
more and more each day.
No complaints here. Of course, I'm probably in the minority but who cares? :)
That's SO funny you mention that. I was JUST doing that myself watching this video! I really like the sound of the background singers on this track. It perfectly matches Billy Ocean's lead vocal. The whole "back-and-forth" (oooh ahhh oooh ahhh) between them towards the end of the song is EXTREMELY addictive!
Yeah!!!! Back when MtV was actualy Music Television. I think the first mtv video I saw was Bryan Adams "Cuts Like A Knife"........ What did they do with all the water in the pool.....lol
This song is my favorite! This song isn't played that much on radio for flashback much though. When this came out though I saw the video and heard this many times on radio!
@gmfastburn I love the fact that you took that kind of action to this song. Some people make fun of me becasue I promote the hell out if it. People thing Billy Ocean and automatically thing Get out of my Dreams and Into my car. This Loverboy track. Is a Rock n Roll song
@biggraz1 You can thank Robert "Mutt" Lange for that killer intro. He produced this tune, and also did the "Pyromania" and "Hysteria" albums for Def Leppard.
80s video success= Jawas (star wars), Gelflings (Dark Crystal), droids stayrring a 2 legged horny goat on horseback with laser gun and bad ass attitude.
Bonus= Billy Ocean floating in 80 high tech pyramid
THIS IS WHY I WISH I WERE AN A&R PERSON.I LOVE THIS SONG,AND EVEN THO IT HAS 80S WRITTEN ALL OVER IT,I THINK ADAM LAMBERT COULD FLIP IT,REMAKE IT,AND MAKE IT A HIT AGAIN 4 HIS NEXT ALBUM.FACE IT HE CAN HIT THE NOTES,HAVE U EVER TRYED SINGING THIS?

@shannonohara this song came out shortly after the empire siezed control of the cloud city and Lando went missing, Han was in corbonite and Leah recovering from the lose, Lando sold records under the title of "Billy Ocean" for a while before becoming a bounty hunter "slash" body guard for Jabba and gathering enough info for Luke to form a plan to rescue Han. The song is based on Lando's secret love for Leah, may the force be with you :) This is Casy Kasem singning out for American top 40.
