@85nikki96 My husband is deaf and his speech is perfect (his hearing started to go while still very young but after he had learnt to speak). I don't think a cat would lose its ability to use its voice just because its hearing goes.

@reiltin1 They're amazing. I had a cat who had retinol atrophy and she was totally blind from 1.5 years & on & she too had a very wonderful life. She used her hearing and sense of smell to locate mosquitos on ceilings & walls, and often got outside & was gone for hours, but came back safely. She'd slide her cheeks over furniture and walls to get around. The ONLY time it was evident she was blind is when we changed the furniture around. We learned not to do that! You're cat's amazing too.

@tivonnah On Animal Planet I learned cats have several specific vocalizations in regard to addressing a human, kittens, or other cats, etc. I realize that a cat doesn't use their lips tongue & breath as we do, but I would think a deaf cat's meow would not sound the same as one that can hear. Many deaf persons can talk beautifully, but it doesn't sound exactly the same as one that hears. It's not bad, just different. Your cat knows to meow although it can't hear itself. VERY cool & gorgeous cat.

@85nikki96 Hi! The kitty in the video isn't mine, but I do have Yambo who's blind and deaf and Fang who looks just like this kitty and is also deaf. It's an occupational hazard - bringing home the "unwanted" ones. Their meows don't really sound much different than my other cats, maybe just a little louder. But you are right - they do seem to communicate with each other, with me, and the dogs in a different "tone of voice".

I used to own a deaf cat! His name was Casper because he was white and on his head he had a black patch that looked like a ghost haha! He also had one green and one blue eye. He was an amazingly loving cat and COULD meow! He was the sweetest little thing!

This is not a "I'm starving, please feed me, I'm dying" meow... My cat does this when he wants a treat, attention, my chair, food, water, play time, anything. For people saying how do you know the cat is deaf. It's quite easy to tell. Clap behind the cats head and if it does not react or turn it's ears somewhat, it is deaf. Also this is a white cat with blue eyes, they are often deaf. Same with flicking a finger towards a cats eye, if it does not blink.. then it is blind. Much like a deaf or hard of hearing person, his meow is louder because he cannot hear himself.

And also that cat's ears move towards things they hear, so if you were calling her, or clapped next to her, and her ear didn't shift towards you, it'd be quite obvious she an an ear problem.
