@horselover99100 I'm actually working on one now... I got a little delayed by work, and my grandma's recent passing. Hopefully I'll be back on schedule soon!!
My horse is a quarter horse morgan, but is 75% morgan and only 25% quarter horse, so do you think when I go to show her I would have to cut her hair? Or can I leave it longer? Because hers is really LONG and THICK, and I really don't want to cut it! lol.
@beautifulsassygirl24 I don't actually know the rules for part-Morgans... guess we have to look those up ;) I definitely wouldn't cut it if it's that thick--she'll end up with a mohawk!
@beautifulsassygirl24 I think the rule is that they have to actually be all Morgan, but at lower shows, no one is going to check ;) At high level dressage shows, pretty much everyone pulls and braids manes even if they aren't required to, because they want everything to look right.
I have a thoroughbred and he probably has a similar length mane to your horse now, i want it shorter, like the length he should have it, because it looks slightly strange at the moment... as i am shortening it so much, would i be best to cut out a bit and then pull it? i don't want it to go really thin because it is hardly massive at the moment, ahh help!
@dodgerdylan if you're horse has a really thin mane, like Noah's, it's best to trim it with scissors. Pulling manes is really meant for proper horse manes that are think ;)
@AlonggTheBay That's why you brush the shorter ones out of the way before you pull the long ones out. The trick is that if you only pull the long ones, and get the short ones out of the comb before you pull, you leave the short ones behind.
How short should the horses mane be if you're in the hunter ring? Right now, my horse's mane is about one hand long (sideways NOT up and down) from top to bottom. How short should his mane be for hunter braids? I did a couple with the mane he has now and it looks good but I'm not sure if its the right length.
Can you do a video on how to ride a horse you don't know or one on how to get one horse out of a paddock with multiple horses. Thanks so much I love your videos!
@IsaTracy You know, I don't know! I don't think so, but you can check with the rules of any given sport about it. I'll put it on my list to investigate ;)
I have cut my horses hair with scissors and it turns to be it looks nice but yes I do have problems with the little tiny short hairs sticking out along the crest! Since winter is coming I'm not going to worry about the hair buy I'm buying a pulling comb so will the hairs go away after a period of time?Nice video:)))
@professionaljumper01 For horses with really thin manes (like Noah's) you can definitely get away with trimming the hairs rather than pulling them. In theory, the little sticking-up hairs should go away if you pull your horse's mane for long enough :D
@hackamore you know, I'm not sure... I think that horse manes always have hairs of different lengths, so you can still pull it. But I've never had that problem with Noah, because his mane is so thin, and every other horse's mane that I have pulled has worked fine. So that'd be my guess.
@aokamins11 What I wound up doing was to cut the mane with scissors to within about 1/2 inch of where I wanted it to be, then pulled it some to get a more natural look.
This is really good. I like the way you explain WHY mane pulling is superior to just cutting, and the detail you go into pulling at the beginning. But then, the speed up was great too, because I was prepared to be bored if I actually had to watch all of that slow process.
Im gonna learn how to ride a horse pretty soon so ive been focusing on a lot of horse videos. All of them are yours, thank you Ali! :) (I nearly died when i saw your video in my subscription box xD)!
Thanks :) are you at Uni then??? Noah is so sweet! my horse has a really really long mane(because he is a cob) but I now want it to be a lot shorter, have you got any tips on shortening very long manes?thanks :)
@TheLivssss Haha for long manes, the best recommendation I can give is patience!! The principles work the same way, just takes a LOT longer for a long mane. And, yes, I'm at uni (working on a PhD). Headed home though to work in a lab for a few months on my samples, then back to uni to write up the thesis!
haha : ) Noah looks nice.

@aokamins11 Do you have to pull their manes at all for full Morgans? Because she could probably pass as one?

@sississis06 That would be a good one. A little hard with Noah, because I don't pull his mane short enough to properly braid it, though...

@AlonggTheBay That's a good length. You don't want to go too much shorter, because it will start to just stick straight up!

@IsaTracy no, i have a friend that barrel races and she doesn't pull her horse's mane. It's cruel as it is..
brennamelnyk 3 months ago
@brennamelnyk Oh, no offense intended, but how exactly is Barrel Racing cruel?
IsaTracy 3 months ago
@IsaTracy I didn't mean barrel racing was cruel, pulling a horses mane is cruel.
