  • awesome flyby

  • HE FLIES THE WAY I THOUGHT I WOULD FLY / HE IS A GOD.

  • Damn they sound good and look awesome

  • Il a du prendre son pied =)

  • NIce plane and the sound....incredible!!!!!Congratulations from Polish fighters:)

  • A griffon engined spit that looks and sounds awesome, bot not only that a bit of floyd in the backgrond too.....what more could an aviation buff & englishman ask for....THANK'S.

  • one of the best sounds ever

    AWSOME....

  • The best quality aircraft video I've seen on you tube! Excellent! Loved all of those "steam gauges"; (flat screens? Naw!). Loved the one "bank" that looked to be about 92 degrees, :-). Did anyone notice that the prop goes "backwards"? I mean CCW as you sit in the cockpit; that surprised me. Must be lots of "left rudder" on takeoff. I was hoping for a better look at the landing - wanted to see if it was a totally committed 3 pointer; was a little hard to tell. What a deck angle!!

  • Bumps a daisy...it's enough to make you weep!

You could teach MONKEYS to fly better than that!

  • @DepakoteMeister Have you ever attempted to land an aircraft? I have. It is the single most difficult peice of flying I have ever attempted to date. I have aileron rolled, I have stall turned, I've looped and I've done a half cuban but landing is more difficult to achieve smoothly. My aicraft had just over 100 bhp. I'd imagine the problems are tenfold in an unfamiliar aircraft with 20 times the power, let alone the Spitfires notoriously poor ground handling characteristics

  • @TheWierdFish Oh dear. It's a quote. From the film 'Battle of Britain'. Doesn't any self -respecting Spit aficionado know that film inside out?

And welcome home Sir. Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it?

Well, yes, as a matter of fact it was!

I wouldn't tell the CO that! Not it I were you!

  • @DepakoteMeister No, I don't know the film. I'm usually too busy under some oily cash-sucker to watch TV. Besides, quotes should really have quotation marks ("...") to avoid unneccesary confusion.

  • What a fabulous looking restoration. Well done those concerned. This is the first time I have seen a PR spitfire up close is so much detail. I never realise they had pressurised cockpits and no sidedoor. Ecellent.

  • Nice piece of film

  • 5blade prop is genuine?

  • @DiscipledeJah on the MK19 it's genuine. others have 2, 3 and 4 props

  • @DiscipledeJah The Mk XIV, Mk XVIII and PR Mk XIX all had 5-bladed props

  • those maneuvers he was pulling were unbelievable!

  • l'avion de mes rêves en France....... magnifique!!!!!!

  • Its one beautiful plane!

  • how many hp the mk XIX ??

  • @LittlePrincess589 Approximately 2000 bhp from the Rolls Royce Gryphon engine.

  • Best looking plane ever made.. imo anyway lol

  • a lifetime dream... thanks for posting!

and when you guys meditate on how hard it is to land that bird... also think of those who had to fly and land it in combat, teenegars with 50 hours of total flight time.

a toast to the "few" !

  • ...She's is a beauty...

    Be Safe...

  • the Mk XII was in service just before the Mk IX (by 3 months )

  • and the first spit to have a Griffon was the Mk IV which the XII was then based on .

  • @edmundscycles The XII was the first Griffon. Everything before was Merlins of various marks.

  • @TheWierdFish As i started the MK IV was the test bed for the Griffon spits . the IV was a Mk V airframe modified for the griffon. It was then fitted with the E wing and then became the XII . The Mk XII was the first production griffon but the Mk IV was the first ever spit with a griffon (12 being made and used as assessment aircraft in a squadron not on front line service.

  • @edmundscycles Noted. I was going by production marks only.

  • Who is the role-play faggot in the black bomber jacket?

  • @clearlogicify What else do you wear? It's a Spitfire.

  • @TheWierdFish Sorry, had to read that a few times to understand it. Why would you wear a US bomber jacket, for a flight in a Spitfire? Makes no sense and it looks very gay and lame. But, is he French? That would be the only explanation.

  • @clearlogicify Maybe he didn't have £580 to spend on a genuine Irvin pattern flying jacket?

  • @TheWierdFish + the extra to have non-authentic pockets added per the other guys. Worth every penny mind, just don't wear it to go shopping...very very warm.

  • @DepakoteMeister Oh they are, I found mine in a charity shop for 20 quid (it is a proper one, I checked) and I use it every day. It's great when I take my Jag D type out (No roof, or proper windscreen). Plus, teamed with jeans, boots, and Aviators, it's incredibly cool.

  • Great video of this dream-plane! Thanks and merci!!!

  • Greatest plane ever! Spitfire.

  • 0:34 ''Chocks Away!'' ;)

  • did he suffer G force?

  • 5 Bladed Griffon engine which rotates anticlockwise caused a few problems in the spit airframe that was designed for the Merlin which rotates clockwise. The landing needed opposite rudder compared with a merlin engined model or so I have read. Nice use of Floyd once the engine stopped. Good choice

  • AWESOME!!!

  • That was a great landing! Perfect.

  • A 5 bladed propeller?

  • @Zvesda Yep, it's got a Griffon engine

  • @TopGunSGA Griffon engine = 3 or 4 feet more lenth of a nose .. Hard to land even harder if its a first time

  • @freakyflow I don't quite follow you. I was simply telling Zvesda why she has a 5-bladed prop

  • @TopGunSGA and i was just simply telling you the 5 prop griffon in the video is longer then a avg spitfire to fit the engine the 5 prop blade is attached to. Seeing it was this first flight in this it must of been fun ride to control

  • @freakyflow Ah I see. Just like the Mk IX had a longer nose than the Mk I/II and V for fit the bigger Merlin 66

  • @TopGunSGA Merlins do not have the upper cowling bumps, that is the main visual appearance of the Griffon over the Merlin.

  • @sakoshooter48 I never said that that Merlin engined Spits had the cowling bumps that the Griffon ones do, just that the Mk IX and the Mk XVI had a longer nose than the Mk I/II and V

  • @TopGunSGA Oh my god! Relax, it was a statement not an accusation. Jesus C fucking Christ!

  • @sakoshooter48 I think we've gotten off on the wrong foot. Lets just put the whole thing under the carpet and enjoy a great video

  • @TopGunSGA Carry on, shall we?

  • @TopGunSGA the XVI and the IX are the same airframe . just a different way of driving the super charger on the 266 by packard bell .

  • @edmundscycles I know that the XVI is basically a Mk IX with a packard-built Merlin. The reason behind giving it a different mark number was also because of the way Packard built their Merlins, mass production as opposed to the way the Rolls Royce did it. It meant that spares and the tool needed to maintain the XVI were different to the Mk IX

  • It's wonderful to see this bird in action again. My thank you and congratulations to the team.

  • Great footage and interesting video.. :)

  • You are a very very lucky gentleman that you can fly a beautie like that.

    5/5, a+ etc etc

  • That is a very acceptable landing in a spitfire. Probably the only thing harder IMO is a Pitts.

  • what a beast.

  • I'm gonna go write my Christmas list

  • Must've been amazing, congrats!

  • ...that smile on the pilots face...

  • ...that smile on the pilots face...

  • what a SOUND!!!

  • "Any landing you walk away from is a good one...!!"

  • Good thing you turned down the music when the plane got into the air. I would've cried if I hadn't heard that Griffon sing. Do you accept kidneys as payment for being allowed to touch this beauty?

  • Awsome!!!

    Floriańska6

  • gg

  • you lucky bum!

    beautiful vid.

  • stunning you are up there with the gods

  • that was awsome long live the beautiful "SPITFIRE"!!! thankyou!

  • Thats got the Griffith engine hasnt it ? Or is it still a merlin , im unsure to when they swapped from merlin to Griffith engines

  • @KartCentral The first Mark of Spitfire to get the Griffon was the Mk XII (12), and all further Spitfires apart from the Mk XVI (16) had the Griffon. The Mk XVI had the same American-built Merlin as the P-51

  • beautiful

  • It cracks me up when people are critical of a landing. Yep, never mind that this beautifully restored piece of aviation history was brought back to life, the takeoff and flight were great. But yep, let's be critical of the landing. Really? Aren't there better things to worry about as you sit behind your keyboards?

  • i think, that is a MkXIV not a MkXIX...

  • @iagobionde It's a PR Mk XIX painted to represent a Mk XIV, so you're half right

  • Boys will we boys!

  • A great part of yesterday history for England,Mitchell did a great job in the design.

  • @Psyche777able ...and Quill did an outstanding job in the research and development of over fifty variants of this plane

  • Excelent video. Very impresive! Plane and scenery looks like real!! What is this game?!

  • That was very cool. You went above and beyond with all the background information. Bravo!!!

  • Superb!!!

  • @MayoDK, yes this is a PR XIX spitfire thats also why there is no cockpit door and the windscreen is one piece

  • Im, sorry but i guy like that shouldnt be allowed such a beutiful aircraft!

  • @CrIp1391 What do you mean

  • So who left the choks on the wing could of been serious.

  • does that plane have a back seat. a small back seat.

  • wow, between 5.12 and 5.17 is incredible!

  • WOW... 5:13 gave me goosebumps... thumbs up...

  • Is it a PR Spitfire?

Looks like it has a camera in the side..?

  • @carbidegrd .. why sound your comment jealous for me.....

@ the pilot ..... allways planned landings for you!!! horrido....

  • History in the making :-)

  • Lol at 4:08

  • I love the videos you post but i wish the shutter speed of the camera could be set to eliminate the props looking as if the plane is "sliding" across the sky. Not a criticism more of a wish :)

  • Nothing wrong with the landing, I echo datzfast.

  • a tien darois!!

  • by the way that was an excellent three point landing, all three tires touching the ground at the same time. i would have been proud and posted it on youtube myself.

  • when i was a little boy i would put playing cards with clothes pins in the wheels of my bicycle and pedal at just the right speed it sounded close to a Merlin engine. i think the sound is magical.

  • if i bought this plane i would mount a color camera up front inside and put a color LCD monitor inside the cockpit so it would appear im looking right through the airplane.

  • @datzfast So you've got, I think £3 million is the going rate for a Spit nowadays, lying around and you can't even use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence or on "I" and "I'm" (which you also missed an apostrophe in) or put a "U" in colour and an "O" in Aeroplane?

  • What is the musich in the end of this werry, werry nice video ?

  • appearently the spitfire mk 19 was available with single and counter rotating props. Is that correct? wasnt the griffon engine in the mk 19? that engine utilizes counter rotating props i believe.

  • Merci...A+..

  • Felicitations au proprietaire et ensuite aux realisateurs de cette video.

Cet avion est une pure merveille.

  • Great video, thanks for sharing and congrats to all concerned. Great shot at 5:12!

  • ...HHmmmmmm, I say that was a terrific landing, he was coming in and adjusted for the rolling hill and landed it and walked away.................thanks RICH GUY!!!! for sharing the experience.

  • Magnificent!

  • looks like Marlon Brando at 6:55, nice vid.

  • @Rami2k9

Well if you knew your history, or even bothered to use Google to look it up you would realise that it was the Official RAAF markings for the South East Asia command.

@Gilvonei22 Given that the Mk XIX was a photo reconnaissance plane it didn't hav eguns.

  • @Johno42 Not RAAF as such, but as you said South East Asia Command. RAAF markings for the Asia theatre quite often had white centre rather than the pale blue of the SEAC ones

  • @waterattack. You Lucky bastard !!! lol. ENJOY Matey, have a blast. PLEASE please ust a HD cam to record your flight. Idea to mount on top of your helmet. Film at max res at medium width, preferably use a GoPro cam. Waiting to see footage. ENJOY

  • wtf what kind of insignia is this? where is the RAF roundal? the stupid french rich owner ruined this beautifull bird!

  • @Rami2k9 It is actually a RAF roundel, just the one that was used by the South East Asia Command. They removed the red to avoid confusion with the Japanese markings

  • An Spitfire whitout your guns..is like ..hummm let me see...is like an big and strong eagle...just fly becouse have wings....

    Sieg RAF

    ESCOMM-BR

  • @Gilvonei22 As someone else posted, this Photo Recon Spit has no guns. It also has no bullet proof front glass (note the rounded screen). The Spits also had additional gas tanks in the front of the wings. The props were often also wood. The idea was to make it as light as possible for distance and to make it faster in order to flee--its only defense. Great story about one of these Spits, an American one, doing a belly landing in Uk during the war. See movie "Spitfire 944" from iTunes.

  • @Southbaysaltworks Just realized that the trailer to Spitfire 944 is on YouTube.

  • Since this is painted in French Navy colors, does that make this a Seafire rather than a Spitfire? I think being a Mark XIX with the Griffon engine, it should be called a Supermarine Seafire Spiteful (though not a Seafang, as there's no contra-rotating propellor arrangement.)

  • @OriginalAiracobra It's not painted in Royal Navy colours but RAF South East Asia Command colours

  • @TopGunSGA Ah! Good eye. Thanks for the insight.

  • fantastic sounds!!

    thx fro the video :)

  • What was the best fighter of the second world war?? Anyone?

  • PC Pilots !! Easy to critique from behind a PC. Imagine the stress and nerves of flying that Baby on maiden.

  • @FOscum I'm going for my first flight tomorrow!:D

  • One day ......... one day, I will get to ride in a Spitfire. NICE !!

  • So good to later see the same aircraft at Duxford.....

  • Why the stupid music?

  • why the stupid music?

  • @carbidegrd ... show me your Spitfire landing.... ok...

  • @ericgoujon If I were to say it was a bad landing, will you give me a chance to outdo your landing?

  • @ericgoujon

A 'good' landing is one you can walk away from. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again.

  • @ericgoujon Good point! Besides, there was a crosswind, it's tricky especially in a big taildragger (on you first flight) to straighten out from a crab to be parallel with the grass/runway.

  • @ericgoujon good vid and good music of a wonderful plane nice engine sound i wish i was flying it

  • @carbidegrd great vid nice flying to!

  • @carbidegrd What does 'ground looping' mean mate?

  • @carbidegrd Ground looped...? No way ! He did exactly what had to be done, no rush and keep nose up, waiting for landing. No doubt he knows a lot about tail draggers.

  • @carbidegrd Christ your such a low life cunt. How dare you insult him.It wasn't bad!You can't fly for shit so fuck off.

  • @carbidegrd With little or no visibility of the ground due to the planes enormous engine cowl and rearward cockpit I thought that was a perfectly acceptable landing for a first flight. Why don't you try driving in to a car park, find a space, then thirty seconds before you drive into the space, close your eyes. Even Jeffrey Quill struggled with landing this bird first time round. You have to land sideways with a lot of rudder which is learned through hands-on experience.

  • @carbidegrd Nobody would tell him, so maybe you should since you dont have a spitfire and he does.

  • Comment removed

  • @engaurd There is a GPS on the dashboard...sorry

  • Incroyable!! I love it!

  • Not a fighter - the PR XIX (19) was a photo recce variant Griffon engined

the first 25 Mk XIXs (type 389) Non pressurised cockpit the (type 390) did have pressurised cockpits. Unarmed but did carry two cameras.

  • fantastic,I had the chance to touch this beautiful aircraft,It was a dream come true!!! fantastic!

  • merci! :)

  • Is the Mk19 a non fighter version? Or are all its gun ports closed up? The Spit is a awesome plane =D

  • @CMDRFandragon it is awesome but foreign country's copies it and makes it shit. also the engine sounds shit, compare to the original ones!

  • @JustAnOrdinarySimmer What countries copied it?

  • @TopGunSGA The US company Packard built Merlin engines; not sure if they also built Griffons, however.

  • @Southbaysaltworks I knew that Packard built the Merlin under licence and used them in the Mustang and also the Spitfire Mk XVI. AFAIK only Rolls Royce made the Griffon.

Apart from Packard making the Merlin, what Countries copied the Spitfire, or was your original comment about the engine and not the plane itself (which I interpreted it to mean)

  • @TopGunSGA Sorry. Should have been clearer. I was referring to other countries using the Spitfire. I started getting into WWII aviation history just over the last few years, and I found it interesting that other countries got Spits and ponies after the UK and US moved on to more sophisticated and faster planes. There is some good stuff on Wikipedia re this. Found it interesting that UK used a Spit PR to test how they might attack the Indonesian Air Force's ponies with a jet.

  • What a beast of an aeroplane. I don't think I would be enough of a pilot to fly such a machine.

  • Wow, that really is is a thing of beauty!!! you lucky sod ;) great video, thank you for taking the time to make these. Also, i don't have to speak French to understand how much you enjoyed that i think :) congratulations.

  • Wonderful first flight! So powerful and fast. Thank you for the video, Eric. Top

  • Nice to see another spitfire in 152 colours and with the Black Panther. I run a site dedicated to 152(Hyderabad) F.Sqn.

    Cheers Rob...

  • Superbe video, je l'ai vu volé le weekend du 10 avril il me semble avec de très belles évolutions, j'étais sur le circuit de Dijon.

  • What a beautiful airplane!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. Great video. 5-giant blades behind the Griffon. This is the most amazing airplane ever built by far. Look at the thrust just at idle...Rotation was so quick... This guy flew it with balls as well.

Probably the nicest Spit I have seen. Reminds me of my Dad who flew them in the war.

    Great video. Thanks.

  • superbe vidéo !!!

  • the original cockpit is awesome!

  • encore une belle vidéo. Un souvenir surement impérissable que son 1er vol en Spit... vivement la ferté ^^

  • merci pour cette vidéo !!!!!

  • Notice, it is a high altitude Spitfire, the seals around the canopy, no need for oxygen mask.

  • landing - boompsy daisy! : )

  • Tres bien.
