Get a Hummer, take out the upholstry/chairs/all of that stuff, use the V10 for the woofer, make it extremely durable and put a spider in it :) See what happens!
A subwoofer won't blow up a car, but a powerful soundsystem can definitely damage the interior panels, break a window, or even break external parts like mirrors etc.

the wrong approach was taken for this experiment. this box is not even close to optimal for the sub which is what its all about. this needs to be redone. the linear force was too much for the cone and the piston was not measured correctly
@Cr1ms0nPwnda agreed. better surrounding material. maybe the the material used in a kicker solox . the woofer also needs to be pumped at an actual straight line, put the piston in a cylinder should fix that up. I have seen cars demolished by much smaller speakers. that car was rigged to blow but done shitty wich is why the fail. also gotta make sure that sub is put into a proper sized box and prob port it to.

No current in a coil in a magnetic field = no cone movement, and no sound or bass. So I have no idea how they conducted the experiment although they said it was diesel powered?Need to see more of this.

It depends on a frequency ..... the reconstrunction was based on very low freq, it means, car or air in there didn't become resonant .... and...in my opinion...the resonant vibration is the first thing which destroys ...it's like a woofer box... if you put 20 Hz into a sub, the box is ok even the cone wanna pop out ..if you put 50 -70 Hz in there, then, the pressure in the box is much higher and the box can destroy itself if it doesn't have the sides glued well..you know what I mean..
I make subwoofers, for living, i mean, i make drivers and subwoofer speaker enclosures and assemble subwoffer speakers. There are few mistakes mythbusters do. one is that they did not took amplitude of the cone into account when building the driver and suspension. two is that 1 gear, 2 gear, 3 gear do not afect aplitude, they affect vibrating frequency and pitch. shifting gears will not make the sound louder, it will mak it higher pitch. there are more mistakes. this is why it failed loudly.

They gave up too easily.. that subwoofer was a piece of crap, they should have made it do a run from 100hz down to 16hz, when it hits that magical freq. it will rattle to pieces.
They needed some way making a spider to keep the cone in a linear motion, keep it from jumping side to side. should have attached a steel tube to the cone and put a short sleeve with bearings at each end around the tube to keep it stable, weld the sleeve to the frame of the car and then attach the the crankshaft to the steel tube. it would have held together better. Basically a reverse coil former pole. Also clamp the surround down with a steel ring and bolt it better
my dad's friend richard gordan destroyes 3 conversion vans, hundreds of winsheilds, thousands of windows, hundreds of mirrors, etc.. with 12 12" sherwin vega subs. he is now deaf in one ear and nerve damage in the other. his insurance stopped covering glass. anyone from rochester ny in the early 90's would know of this van. he was always at charlotte beach and got a ticket once there because 2 cops said it was too loud at the end of the peer when he was in the parking lot
Yes you can mess up a car w/ a ridiculous competition audio system, but you usually do not the damage in one blast (or 'burp' as we call it in the 12volt audio world). The vehicles we build are made to contain the pressure. The more you contain, the higher the SPL# the meter reads.
Our shop van is capable of 161.9 @ 73hz w/ only 11kw input power (not 16hz like the diesel sub...lol) We have obliterated windshields and ripped sheet metal in the roof.

No motor structure = no vibrated air molecules = no sound. Does a hand powered fan create sound pressure no it creates air pressure. All the myth busters are doing is increasing the oxygen pressure inside the cabin area of the car.

2. Meade does 156db on music, a nice ass truck, but there ARE louder vehicles.

my dad's friend richard gordan destroyes 3 conversion vans, hundreds of winsheilds, thousands of windows, hundreds of mirrors, etc.. with 12 12" sherwin vega subs. he is now deaf in one ear and nerve damage in the other. his insurance stopped covering glass. anyone from rochester ny in the early 90's would know of this van. he was always at charlotte beach and got a ticket once there because 2 cops said it was too loud at the end of the peer when he was in the parking lot

Yes you can mess up a car w/ a ridiculous competition audio system, but you usually do not the damage in one blast (or 'burp' as we call it in the 12volt audio world). The vehicles we build are made to contain the pressure. The more you contain, the higher the SPL# the meter reads.
Our shop van is capable of 161.9 @ 73hz w/ only 11kw input power (not 16hz like the diesel sub...lol) We have obliterated windshields and ripped sheet metal in the roof.

it would be better for you to learn how a speaker works. A ac current is sent thru a former creating a reverberation. this reverberation then excites the molecules in the air creating sound. there is no motor structure there for all they are doing is pressuring the air at 16 cycles. you can slap your forehead now if you wish lol

you should have read more of that definition you googled lol A compression wave is achieved by vibrations of the medium. A sound wave from a speaker is achieved from the electric motor. No motor structure = no vibrated air molecules = no sound. Does a hand powered fan create sound pressure no it creates air pressure. All the myth busters are doing is increasing the oxygen pressure inside the cabin area of the car.

@brokentapedeck you know that theres little ball in the middle of a woofer if you rip that off you come in the voice coil. That thing creates the sound and the magnet is also for that sound

yes your right, its a dust cap and what you are seeing when you remove it is the top of the motor structure.

The "dustcap" gives out the highest frequeny that you send to the speaker.. As for bass, not that much comes from there..

A old friend of mines system could do just over 161dB and he only entered contests as a novice for sound quality.
So Wouldn't one of the more expensive systems that say do 180+dB be able to blow out windows?
Or is this myth for blowing up the entire car?

the theoretical limit for sound at one atmoshpere is 181.~~ DB. the closest anyones gotten is 177.7, and that setup up cost around $150,000.
