  • classic, saw them at the Lyceum 1978

  • classic

  • the years melt away when I hear this, its lost nothing over the decades.

  • Without the PINK FLAG album, there would be no "thrash punk," and probably no "speed metal" as well.

  • FLEX YOUR HEAD!!!!!!!!

  • So Fucking Righteous!

  • Minor Threat led me here. This is just as good, if not better.

  • @tacozzrgood15 too right classic PUNK is best!!

  • @tacozzrgood15 too right classic PUNK is best!! Check out some more like Dead Boys and Penetration.....!!!

  • @tacozzrgood15 If you haven't already, get a copy of the Pink Flag album and listen to the whole thing in order. Vital!

  • Das wahren noch Zeiten .:))

  • Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was so frustrating growing up when people thought this was a Minor Threat song because of that Flex Your Head compilation. Wire rules!

  • @supergrizz I agree it was never really obvious that it was a cover :p If I found out, it was a total coincidence

  • OHHH YES!

  • this was in a cancer bats mix? wtf?

  • coachella!

  • Saw them 2 days ago. Life-changing!!!

  • @TheFriendlyfinger you are so lucky, musta been an amazing show!

  • Wire is simply the best - most original and coolest band ever.

  • What a great slice of punk (defined as by a pick up your instruments and just do it attitude) back in the day when you could do that and not have to have a music mogul (loosely ) and his pointless tv show behind you to achieve anything on stage oh and as for the Blondie debate listen to the first 2 LPs and then parallel lines and you will se a musical progression from diy to a class act irrespective of their supposed punk ( maxs the american 100 club ramones anybody? ) new - post wave roots

  • Please say they play this at King Tuts in Feb!

  • X='fuck' , just for reference. They decided the X was not just more likely to be acepted by the censors, but had a little bit of Hitchcockiness to it- the terror of the unmentioned. Genius.

  • loved em since i was 14 & had the Roxy LP.

  • This is how retarded people are with their tags or how YouTube processes them. You have this song and then you get a suggestion for "A tide is high" by Blondie. 2 completely different genres. This guy argued with me that post punk is the same as "dark wave" and kept arguing with me via post. And that Blondie was the same group. I finally looked at his age in his profile of 21. It's no wonder that young people today just don't understand anything outside of what TV tells them.

  • @coptersoisoi Arguing on the posts. Hey, when I'm bored...

Any hardcore punk from back in the day is gonna at least be 40. I saw Black Flag in a run down old junky house in ABQ NM in.... 1984?

"Tide is High" is FAR from Blondie's best song.

  • @davandk I wasn't wasn't arguing about what the best song Blondie's was. I was saying Blondie (the band and not Debra harry) was not considered Post Punk but New Wave which was a mixed genre of disco and pop. Black Flag in a run down junky house sounds about ride. But that would be something akin to say the Rolling Stones playing at a small pub. :P

  • @davandk yep n 45 n still alive

  • So underated, I was lucky enough to hear this courtesy of some British lads from Prince Rupert, BC circa 1981...

  • What's the point in saying this or that band did a "better" version?! Enjoy this or just stay away.

  • I was there, was you !

  • the real punk tracks

  • Excellent video! Very well done!

(My favorite Wire song, too. :))

  • Fast, intense, short, to the point, no muckin' about. Perfect punk song!

  • Wire is a great band I love Pink Flag its very intelligent Punk Rock. Also Magazines Real Life is another great album.

  • classic :-)

  • These dudes had style. Good tune.

  • I saw them play this at the 9:30 club about two years ago, my very first show.

  • Yeah!

  • One two fuck you.

I like the x better, it's like hitchcock, better when t's just inferred (horror or profanity), wire are smarter than the average genius.

    1 2 X U

  • Minor Threat does this 7 to 10 times better

  • @coocookuhchoo

I saw Wire play it live and they played Minor Threat's version

  • RAAAAAHHHH!!!!

  • Like this. Hate new youtube.

Youtube ( ahem, google?!! ) are you listening? ofcoz u're!!!

  • i loved learning about the meaning of the title and song: A friend wanting to know if his mate is homo. 12XU = I want to ask you...great.

  • @bastardluv dunno where you're coming from with the homo reference. i can imagine the phrase smoking a fag has a different meaning to you than me. basically it means smoking a cigarette seeing as we refer to cigarettes as fags over here in the uk, i doubt it means giving a blowjob to a gay person if that's what came to your mine when you heard that particular lyric. 1 2 love you or 1 2 kiss you is what i think the title of the song actually means, but songs are open to interpretation

  • @criztafer Well I think he is referring to the lyric "Saw you in a mag, kissing a man"

  • since covers are being brought up here...naked raygun covered this. great tuneage.

  • Abso-flogging-lutely!!

  • This tune reminds me of being young in the late 70's and going to Kensington market for bondage trousers then going to the basement games arcade afterwards

  • nice video great track

  • whats with all the people saying minor threats is better! pfft

  • the Oblivians got their guitar sound from that song!

  • I heard Minor Threat's version first and thought it was great!

...but I think the original is WAY better =D

  • def. good. but minor threat's is better

  • You made me laugh, thanx!

  • i like the sound fr this better than the minor threat one

  • classic!

  • this versions the best!

  • You gotta be crazy if you think the Minor Threat version is better.

  • good stuff. I prefer Minor Threat's but that's just because its the stuff I grew up listening to. Good stuff by Wire nontheless!
