Maybe you guys don't know how it works on a stage, but that was OBVIOUSLY a filler solo. You can tell they were having problems with the sound/eq on the mics, they kept cutting out, getting quieter/louder, etc. Thats when the guitarist gets told "go out there and improv/shred while we try to fix this". You cant just stop a song in the middle and start over. Sorry this is real life, not hollywood. Things are not always perfect. That being said, yes he definitely could have improvised much better.
