  • as for not answering part, excuse my ignorance, it is obviously better if I stay so because it is then I can be tortured for eternity, yes?

  • @MGX890 i'm sorry, it is not that i do not care... give me time... for the mean time, enjoy your daily routine... i'll come up with something a.s.a.p... there are something that i've to manage...

  • @khrizd Oh ok, sorry I jumped to conclusions - not the best idea. I genuinely don't know about that "crystal clear" knowledge. I assumed you just tried to avoid an unanswerable question. If something we might share is that to me your world view is like saying the earth is falt AND to you my world view is like saying the world is flat.

  • @MGX890 Wow the man with answers you are. Try convince me become an atheist... So shall i not be. There is no truth in debating. Let's say we have two books. The book you refer to and the book I refer to. I may say your book is wrong and my book is right. And u may say the other way. Can u really prove your book contains the truth? I can prove the book I refer to, the Quran. If you are a man with good vision, how can Muhammad, a HUMAN, knew about the exact truth about embryology? n it's proven.

  • @MGX890 the book is 1400 years old of information. There was no penetrating technology to look at the baby at that time. If you're a man with good vision, how Muhammad peace be upon him, a human, can tell exactly the shape of the earth where 1400 years ago there was no spaceship. Let discuss about this man only. I hope you do not deny his existence at that time while you can see billions of muslims in this world.

  • @MGX890 if suddenly in front of you is a machine that no one in the world ever seen before, who is the first would be able to explain the mechanism of the machine? of course you would say the manufacturer, creator, inventor, producer etc. Can u explain about the existence of our universe? You may say there was a primary Nebula. And there was a big bang. 30 years or 40 years back of discovery. But it has been in the Quran 1400 years ago. Sura Anbiya chapter 21 verse 30.

  • @MGX890 I repeat again, the light of the moon, is it its own light or reflected light or borrowed light? Previously people of no knowledge thought it was its own light. It was discovered by scientist that it is a reflective light. 100 or 200 years ago. But quran mentioned that 1400 years ago, Sura furqan chapter 25 verse 61.

  • @MGX890 If you want to know more, search this video How to Deal with Atheists by Dr. Zakir Naik, copy and paste the words, and watch the video. He is the right man for you to counter with. or Ahmad Deedat video. These are people with better knowledge than me.

  • @MGX890 1.. i have disproven your asertions about egg, the moon and other claims, yet you re assert them, and bring new ones without furhter exploring previous ones. If you want we can consider each specific question togehter exploring it using reason and further knowledge we find, in a longer and more contextualised way. But you have not answered my Key question which I will reformulate, and I want you to concider it as thinking and compassionate bing -answer from your hear and head.

  • @khrizd I assure you the reson you believe those claims is that you haven't investigated them, you just take them to be true. You have to understand there is plenty of pseudo science in the world, I even was a believer of one but I slowly realised that I weren't really looking objectively at evidence or my expreience of the phenomena. Dr. Zakir Naik looks at those calims in isolation and does not investigate them - he brainwashes people - that is evil.

  • @khrizd 2. ...but it ended with philosophers like Al-Ghazali rejecting laws of nature and dogmatising the area - science became sinful (at least non silamic(?) around 13th C. the golden area has ended and has not recovered yet. While in Europe Enlightement started kicking about from around 16th C. onward and slowly broke with dogmatism of religion resulting in Modernity (and all the western scientists and other intellectuals) that has changed the WORLD at large. PCs and cars u use etc.

  • @MGX890 when we did we come to know that the earth is spherical? It was in 1597, when Sir Francis Drake was the first to prove the earth is spherical when he sailed around the earth. But the quran says 1400 years ago, surah An-naziat chapter 79 verse 30. I repeat again about the egg shape/geospherical earth. Who could have mention about that 1400 years ago? You may claim Muhammad is super intelligent.

  • @MGX890 Last time, people claim the Sun revolve but stationary, do not rotate on it own axis. Quran mentioned that 1400 years ago, Sura Anbiya Chapter 21 verse 33.And He it is Who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all (orbs) travel along swiftly in their celestial spheres. Who could have mention this 1400 years ago?

  • @MGX890 Today, science tells us the universe is expanding. Mentioned in the Quran 1400 years ago, Sura Ad-dhariyat chapter 51 verse 47. And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.

  • @o0ThisIsMyUsername0o He is not made of anything. He is always there. He has no ending and no beginning. He is All-Seing, All- Hearing, All-knowing. He is not within our space and time fabric.

  • @khrizd obviosuly you must be all-knowing as well since you know everything about reality, that it was made by your friend Mr God, you also know the fact that he has a beard, and what he is capable of doing and how he thinks. Jeez actually maybe you are this God, since only a god could know whats beyond the fabric of space-time by which we are bound by.

  • @MGX890 read the Quran, the Islam Holy Book with english translation... you will understand God. The origins of you and me and everybody and the purpose of our existence in this world. There are also verses saying about atheism. There are also scientific facts in it.

  • @khrizd Why Quaran, why not the bible? why not all of the thousand other religions? I don't have time to look at all of them. If I believe in Allah, and actually christian god is real, i might end up in hell for eternity. The all-good god creats people and then sends most of them to hell.. irony?... How about instead of me picking up reading, you pick up a begginers guide to critical thinking and some evolutionary psychology while your at it.

  • @MGX890 does the quaran say say that atheists will go to hell. It's discusting and evil. How can you believe such evil ideas?

  • @MGX890 I don't have enough knowledge to explain those to you.I'm still learning and will keep on learning because Quran does say the very important of knowledge. I challenge you to read Quran and meet a Muslim.

  • @khrizd On the other hand you by saying “fuck you” and such & that life obviously needs god just shows how narrow minded, and maybe certain, you are of your claims. I challenge you, if taken into proper perspective and thought outside the emotionally-bound box, have no real foundation.. I further challenge you not to read some one specific book and treat it as absolute but to read lots of various books and to really think.

  • @MGX890 Quran explains about the shape of the earth which is egg shaped. The earth is not a perfect sphere. Muhammad peace be upon him did not have spaceship to look from the space and knows the shape of the earth. But it is true that the shape of the earth is like an egg or to be specific ostrich egg shape... Quran also explains that the moon do not have its own light. It is a reflected light or borrowed light from the sun. I forgot the verses. Try Google it.

  • @khrizd there is a verse in Quran says that if those of you seek for signs, have we not shown you enough? Look at the trees, water and everything around you. Those are the signs for the people of knowledge.

  • @khrizd If you need the quran to know that you need to wash, or to be good, I’m sorry then I seriously think you lack conscience and run on the quran-auto-pilot. If you think the earth is ostrich egg shaped, I’m speechless. Try looking into a scientific book, or just any damn picture taken out of space. It’s nearly spherical. And I’m not even going to look at the “evidence” laid down by the flat earth society, or witchcraft within Africa. I don’t need to investigate every idiotic claim.

  • Comment removed

  • @khrizd And as for seeing things in a different light, you’re the one who is unable to step out side your emotionally bound personified reality box of fantasies, and face reality as it is – uncertain and mysterious.

  • @MGX890 Just wait till the death comes brother, the truth shall be revealed. Even the time we spend here also will be revealed. Try to understand the purpose of life rather than being the Dots of Conway. Simple way to wipe out those Conway's Life, turn off the power supply Bling! No more life. What a life. Where are the creatures? God loves all human being. But some humans are arrogant enough to not to notice him. Einstein is a God believer. Nicolas Anelka is a Muslim. Mike Tyson is a muslim.

  • @MGX890 One more question brother, I dont need the answer. Where were you before you were born? Before you were out from mother's womb. Every baby born God believers, they respond to things around them because they are amazed with the Created world. But when they are getting bigger. Some lost it. Some become arrogant and reject God Allah. I forgot to tell there is not much different between Islam and Christianity. Islam believes jesus is a prophet. Christians believe jesus is God

  • @MGX890 If you are done here, up to you. Have you really done? Peace.

  • @khrizd I have 2 questions, what do you think my reply will be to what you wrote? And sorry I don't mean to be rude but how old are you?

  • @MGX890 it is actually what i see from your replies? your replies are neither answers nor questions, for they are expressions of trying to hold the statement of there is no god. My replies were not from my opinion or referring to human opinion. I refer to Quran Holy Book - words from God. You may be skeptical with Quran. No problem. You may claim that Quran is man made or man written. Read it. The style of writing incomparable with the best writer in history. my age is 22 years old.

  • Comment removed

  • @khrizd You say Quaran is the best written book, someone else might say the same of some other book. IT IS NOT AN ARGUMENT. Have you read all the books in the world? You have evaded my key questions!!! Your now telling me your refusing to think, your just quoting from quran!! I’m not sure you even want to have this discussion? How can you have a discussion with a person that dosent think???

  • @khrizd and let me clarify what I mean by begging the question... How can you have an argument with someone who belives the earth is flat, and who ignores the fact that they have no evidence for their claims and theat they make no sense and dosent even reply to your chalanging questions, and if he does it is only by reference to the Falt-Earth Manifesto.. ?? i.e. it is true because it says it is true, and it says it is true because it is true (& because it feels good for it to be true.)

  • @khrizd Yes seeing was mainly considered an outward projection, yet the next obvious possibility was the inverse. Atoms were conceived in ancient-Greece and parts of Asia, but that does not point to the necessity of God. Buddhist ideas are ‘compatible’ with modern interpretations of quantum physics. Does not mean that that reincarnation exists.

Since I’m answering your questions and your avoiding mine I’m done here. Peace.

  • @khrizd quote: "It is correct that the moon does not emit its own light but only reflects the light of the sun. But this was known already at least a thousand years before Muhammad, for example to the ancient Greek astronomers, and can hardly be called miraculous knowledge." etc etc

  • @khrizd as for your challange, some of my closest friends are muslims, the other part will be met soon.

  • @MGX890 Prof Keith Moore studied about embryology.. and the explanations in the Quran about human development in the womb are perfect and accurate. It can't be possible if Quran brought by Muhammad peace be upon him 1400 years ago can have those knowledge which is logically possible to be discovered in this modern age with highly sophisticated technology. Try Google Prof Keith Moore embryology and quran. He said,"These words cannot be from a human being.

  • @khrizd Islam is not a ritualistic religion. You will feel to pray to him when you know who He is. What is His role in your life? (God) Even though you are not a muslim. He still gives you air to breath. Food to eat. Feet to walk. Hands to hold and work. For every seconds of your movement, He is there with you. How close is He to you? Closer than you jugular vein to your neck.

  • @MGX890 If to gather all knowledge in this world, including this Conway, it would be just a drop of water comparing to the vast sea of knowledge of God specifically Allah. God has many dimensions comparing to our limited dimensions in this world. The real world is very complex where our mind cannot perceive. If understood wrongly, suicidal thought might emerge.

  • @khrizd further, try this thought experiment. If you we were all knowing god and knew the that if you created life full of santient beings, even if one would have to go to hell of eternity, would you still do it?

  • @MGX890 Islam is not always about going to hell brother.... There are thousands of ways to understand or perceive a single sentence of Quran. Try to at least understand in the second way... In my opinion, Islam teaches me to be good people. To take care of good hygiene. Have a good heart. Generous. Strength. Leadership. Management and many more. God challenge if you gather all genius in this world and create the same beauty of verses in Quran, they would not be able to create one.

  • @khrizd your barbaric and violent god is just a fairy tale

  • @bewertow69 try to understand Islam in different perspective. For every verses in the quran, there are thousands of ways to perceive a single sentence of Quran. Try to see Quran in some other ways.

  • @bewertow69 it is not fairy tale brother. For such an intelligent design of human being, there must be a very intelligent designer behind it.. can you explain thought? Can you explain the life after death? Beyond science. But I do not say science and Islam is apart. Science and Islam are related.

  • @MGX890

    Part of Quran- Surah Al-Ikhlas

    1. Say (O Muhammad ()): "He is Allah, (the) One.

    2. "Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks).

    3. "He begets not, nor was He begotten;

    4. "And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him."

  • @MGX890 It is not that I do not want to answer your questions. It is just not worth answering and entertaining those questions for something that is very clear crystal and even unschooled people can understand and the better thinker than you can understand. Your answers are answers if I I feel those really answering. It's not that I do not respect your opinion. Whether you will accept it or not is not with my will. It is the will of God, Allah to open your heart.

  • @MGX890 I just tell what I should tell you about the reality. The reality is you are a human being DESIGNED and CREATED and ENGINEERED by One Creator. The basis of our mathematics and science today, the number system we use base 10(al-khawarizmi), the medicines (Canon of medicine, Avicenna- Ibnu sina:real name) are from Muslim scholars who have FAITH towards God. But the Westerns try to wipe out their names from history and replace them with their names. Shame to those people.

  • @khrizd the quran is a fairy tale, and a terrible one at that

  • @MGX890

Atheist Islam-Hater converts to Islam! Funny yet AMAZING story! (with subtitles)

    - type this on youtube search box. You will find a video.

A video of an atheist converts to Islam. I'm not forcing you to Islam but try to have a look on the man.

  • @khrizd Yes very moving indeed, a guy probably empty inside because of his problems; questions and life that he took for granted profoundly crept up on him so he filled it in with comforting stories and rituals.

  • it is rather frustrating to whole mankind to know that life are like this? If this is life, it is damn bull shit... in the positive part, i see how great is Allah...

  • there is no need for a creator? fuck off...

  • I believe the laws of game of life are designed by God... there must be someone who give the dots... the God...

  • @khrizd who made god?

  • this is stupid... there must be a lawgiver... john conway is created by God ... and his intelligence is given by God... Everything... the youtube you are listening also with the permission of God for you to listen and watch...

  • In a sense, John Conway is God here because he created the rules that then created these creatures. Perhaps if he choose a different set of arbitrary rules, his results would've been random gibberish.

  • people think math is complicated, math is the simple bit. its cats that are complicated. lol

  • Aren't the rules that are inherent in the universe essentially design? I mean, when conway made the game, he certainly didn't purposefully design those moving creatures and pumps, but he did design the game itself that led to those pumps and creatures

  • Comment removed

  • were can i play this game

  • Teh Best Game EVER

  • :D

  • This is an interesting theory. But IF life actually arises out of such simple rules, who made the rules, and why?

  • @parkerjwill there are no rules, this is just a theory to explain it.

Life happend just by a random chemical reaction.

And this is how it continued, explained in a theory how life can get complex by simple rules

  • @Andreyloos2 With all due respect, think about how illogical it is to think life is a result of complete randomness. Such a worldview makes life meaningless. It's a theory put forward by people who's interest is control of the masses.

If I have a pile of shit, and I light it on fire, will it turn into a Easter Bunny?

  • @parkerjwill But why do you think then that life is formed by something else?

Why is it wrong to think that life could be the result of a chemical reaction, by the flow of liquid.

  • @Andreyloos2 I think this way because it's simple - it doesn't require mental magic.

In the Game of LIfe by Conway, the whole thing works because there are only a few simple rules. So from simplicity we get complexity or richness. But how did this happen? Well, simple, Conway created it with his intelligence.

    So...... how'd we get here?

  • @parkerjwill The game of life is a game that he made.

Ít's a thing to explain life and how it began.

And he came up with the rules.

Real life is something completly differend.

There are no rules of creation so far as I know.

But ofcourse it's not wrong to think that our life is made by someone, or something.

I think that's weird, because why would something do that?

  • @Andreyloos2 Why are/were you interested in the Game of Life if it has nothing to do with actual life? Of course it's relevant. That's the whole point of the theory - duh.

I don't know who you are or anything about you but from what you've written it's apparent you've been completely schooled by the system. You're intelligence is crippled. You have no common sense. This is a result of poor education and upbringing.

To help, look for some good books. Find a copy of the Bhagavad-gītā As It Is.

  • @parkerjwill My way of explaining that is by a chemical reaction, that just happend.

That's not weird. I don't know why you think it's wrong and illogical.

If you watch some programs on Discovery Channel they tell alot about that....

But ofcourse it's really hard to explain how life really began..

  • @parkerjwill There are approximately 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (One sextillion) stars in the Universe. Some of those stars have planets. All those stars in about 1 trillion unique galaxies in the Universe. The amount of "randomness" is absolutely immense. Life is meaningless, it's us Humans that try to add some meaning. Get some perspective, and logic.

  • @CauseOfRicoRodriguez Your statement that life is meaningless is courageous of you, but it's incomplete. We do give life it's meaning but that doesn't exclude an absolute meaning of life. One could ask, "What's the meaning of the meaninglessness?" Why is life meaningless? The answer is that life is APPARENTLY meaningless so that we can believe whatever we want, independently of an absolute meaning/purpose of life.

It's critical to understand there are two kinds of truth: relative & absolute.

  • @parkerjwill So what are are saying is that it is your opinion? You were just trying to prove something, and then said it just your opinion?

  • Oh, and if you're a self-proclaimed atheist or cynical in any dogmatic way towards God, don't bother trying to understand or otherwise taste the Absolute, He doesn't work that way. He's very unobtrusive.

  • @parkerjwill Nice work with the truisms.

  • how did i get here from watching a minecraft video?

  • There was no design? If I'm not mistaken, Conway designed the game of life. And sure, there is complexity with simple rules, but there has been a lot of research done on how to exploit the simple rules in order to create complexity.

  • hmm matrix?

  • You're all wrong. Hinduism is power in the Universe and Shiva's Warriors will rain blood red destruction upon your quaint little lives.

  • @FukkMyGenePool can't wait. if you really believe in that junk why were you watching this? gotta give it to hinduism though, out of all the religions i've read up on they had the least boring stories

  • I know I'm probably going to get X^n number of thumbs down; however, I really don't think this proves anything. It's definitely intriguing but why must math be accepted as truth? For people that actually know anything about mathematics, set theory is flawed for one, and this is the field john conway implores for his propositions it can only work if we accept certain axioms... so my friends, how is the faith for a God and the faith for a mathematic axiom any different from each other? Hmmmm?

  • @activethinking there is no GOD.. we are it.. everything is GOD.. everyone wants to call it a He...smh

  • it's a go board!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does conway have a web page?

  • Reminds me of the board game Jacob and his brother were playing when they were children in the show lost

  • This is a very interesting video

  • You got that right. Conway is one of the great geniuses of our time.

  • I'm not even sure what to say... I found out about this "game" because I love the Monome music controller. This is a spectacular concept.

  • Rather than delve into the religious debate I'll just say that the game of life is a very interesting game and was the first game I really programmed.

I even released a stylised version to the Xbox Live Indie game arcade :D albeit limited to a 20*20 grid making it a lot less interesting than the full game if i'm being honest.

  • 3:46 looks like an ant eaters head O_o

  • Sir Martin Rees is a little scary looking.

"It's cats that are complicated." great line

I loved programming this game as a kid - try it yourself. Complicated patterns from simple rules - something to think about.

  • at least we know were not in a virtual world cause there are things math cant solve

  • yet

  • hmm, people tend to base their beliefs on a possible computer that we are in, on how our computers work...but..if this was true and we are in a comp world. their theories would be crap because our computers would then be the fake ones...and the one operating us would work differently to ours cus its real....ours would be an illusion. so they cant really say how we are in a fake world using that example

well, fake world or not, finding out would be near impossible i think

  • but i agree, i think we are in a real world....

  • Real? whats real?

  • Theres not such thing

  • @Xegethra There's no such thing as a fake world. If we are in a computer simulation, we're still real. Just because something is virtual doesn't mean it's fake.

  • @doom032 well youk now what i mean, fake as in being computerised. well yeah i guess it still is real, but not reality real, computer real....guess i could have worded it that way

  • LHC is the answer to all our doubts

  • with more brains than you....

  • I met John Conway in 1990, poking through logic magazines at the WaWa convenience store on Nassau in Princeton. I told him how I'd read of Game of Life in a 1970 column by Martin Gardner, and programmed a primitive version for the IBM 1401. He thanked me, saying he had not worked on Life for years.

  • this looks so awesome! i am a little bit interested in maths and games, so i ended up here...but it's too difficult for me to understand xD

  • He was a big backgammon player at Cambridge.

  • The argument that this is proof against intelligent design does not hold because John Conway designed the "universe" which was simulated. It did not spring up out of nothingness.

The presentation method with sinister looking man arrogantly delivering his deep insights using all of the body language mind control tricks in the book is disturbing.

It is very interesting and clever work but it is not proof that there was no intelligent design because it was intelligently designed.

  • you are the master

  • I saw this game for the first time around '81 and I'm hooked about the idea ever since. It's wonderful 'magic' ;)

  • Conway is one of the dude of all dudes. Very interesting work.

  • * Also if there is a god, who made god, but then, if there is a univer's, who mad the univers, or the big bang? Or where they just there ?

  • You don't need to have a creator. You don't need a creator for a creator you do have. The universe is rather simple: infinity is the default answer because it is the one that requires least justification.

  • so we are just a series of reactions then right?... is consciousness the sun of these reactions in an organized manner?

  • The question that can be asked, who set those rules out? Or if no one set the rules out, then who started the conditions the rules could come to excist. Also if there is a god, who made, but then, if there is a univer's, who mad the univers, or the big bang?

  • A regligious discussion sparked by JHC? Oh the irony... he's an atheist people....

  • I can only bow down to such a brilliant mind - well down Mr Conway. I wish creationists were good enough at math to understand how f****d up their ideas about life and evolution are.

  • your all done ! you lose ! you lost ! game over ! final ! :) just like your friend max metalvalahala2008 eusuperstate giovinco thewarrior ! :) ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Well I can prove to you that mathematics exist in more places than on papers. For example, I can do maths on my computer and calculators. How is that for starter? More? I can do math on the sand at the beach... hahaha

  • The thing about mathematics is...IT DOESENT EXIST! there is only one place where mathematics exist, and thats on paper. Think about it

  • that is but one posture, look for philosophy of mathematics on wikipedia!

  • I'm glad SOME people understand the implications of this.

  • This guy is a major hypocrite. He sais there is no design in life because his board game proved it. But wait, didn't the board game need a designer? Doesn't it need rules in order for the whole thing to work out? he sais there is no design in life. Look at his board game. It needed a designer. His board game doesn't prove evolution, it proves an intelligent designer. So this guy is retarded...and he doesent know what a cat is...

  • Wow, you totally missed the point. He isn't making the argument that you don't need a designer for rules. His argument is that simple rules can produce complex things. As for evolution, it is pretty damn accurate. Whether a designer set it forth or not. If you chose to believe there is a God that set evolution in motion then fine, others need to see the god in order to believe. Evolution is the best explanation we have, and you should understand the arguments and premises before speaking.

  • Did you not hear Conway say "There is no Design in Life"?

  • Did you not here them say, "complexity arises from simple rules." That is what the Game of Life is about, showing complexity needs not complex rules, not about the vindication of the existence or nonexistence of a god. He believes that there is no design in life, but that is not what he wants to show with his game.

  • this is a game showing that complexity can be produced by simple circumstances...why does there need to be a design for life to propogate?...it seems more possible that the natural forces of the universe can create without the intervention of a mythological being

  • skamaster, although im an agnostic, maybe even atheist, i completely agree with your point, i thought the exact same thing, the point is, the board game follows certain rules of mathematics and logic, which are part of this reality, which means he's still just stuck in the matrix/creation, which is why we'll never know as long as we're in this paradigm...

  • John Conway is one of the smartest people alive. If you understood anything about real mathematics (or rigorous thinking) you'd probably understand, as well.

  • He can't define a cat? What the hell? You're listening to a man that doesen't know what a cat is?

  • you're an idiot

  • YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT A CAT IS EITHER?

  • what about the rules

  • Really enjoyed this. Thank you!

  • Conway is cool and a superb mathematician.

  • he looks like Q from james bond

  • Conway is god.

  • awesome programme. now a biologist or some sort of animal psycologist/cognitive scientist would say something like "cats aren't complicated, math is". The divisions(ignorance?) between the sciences and they're communities is aparant, i guess thats how you still get the odd religious scientist...

  • lol, someone tries to prove evolution using a board game, and you call religious scientists weird...

  • too true, that is one badass board game

    lol, religious scientists!

  • religious scientist is an oxymoron...religion is nothing like science...not even the pursuit of truth illustrates religion...religion has already come up with it's petty conclusions without the shrouds of any evidence...oh and please dont say...god exists because science cant disprove him...cause just because we cant disprove religious ideas doesnt verify that they are true...

  • Let me ask you one question why? Why is it that creatures wish to live, why do they struggle to survive, why do organisms want to live? If there is no point, no reason, no design, then there shouldn't be any inclination to wish to exist over to not exist.

  • Because they like it here.

  • probably because natural selection favored the wish to exist

by the way, some centuries ago this will to exist was called connatus it's an interesting concept you could check the wikipedia article on it

  • The ones that didn't want to live didn't last very long...

  • Normally I wouldn't, but this time I feel the need to set you straight. Science and religion are perfectly able to co-exist with each other as long as you don't take religious texts for face value. Science is the how, Religion is the why.

  • Why should there be a why in a way you mean it? Because as far as I know science also answers "whys", "Why's the cat running to the tree when it sees a dog?" "Because it has an imperative written in its DNA to write in the structure of their brain which manifests itself as "be aware of anything that may kill you" structured by evolution via natural selection. This signal sends messages to the cat's brain's motor and visual processes and is being handled accordingly".

  • Of course what's even more preposterous is how remarkably the west is to what we call "spirituality" with religions being its patrons, while the east has easily get over those problems 2000 years ago. While the eastern religions are in fact folk philosophies concocted with certain philosophers (the Taoists, the Confucians, etc) and -of course- tradition making them more akin to philosophical schools as the supernatural comes only from tradition rather than the main branches of the "teachings",

  • the West still doesn't seem to have shackled off the supernatural as a historical baggage of the pre-scientific era (that it is) and instead advertises it wherever possible thrusting the philosophical schools -which are the actual leaven of all belief systems that stood in time-. W/t the ancient cynics and the stoics there would be no Christianity (as a belief system), w/t Jesus Christianity would still exist as the offspring of those two philosophies (plus the neo-Platonic realism).

  • Too bad (that) it (Christianity) had to be based upon mumbo jumbo instead of the sober skepticism of the philosophies that made it so successful in the first place, displacing their very evolution and becoming the Greco-Roman philophies' de-facto descendant while at the same time killed what seeded them (classical philosophies) in the first place. No, western religions are a transvestite and they should not be able to answer any questions, as they -eventually- do not.

  • @BrutalMentality you are so close minded
