if they had a live drummer, they wouldn't be Sleigh Bells. Their sonic impact is the guitar...bone crushingly loud, driving, hook ridden guitar licks that are supported, never to be supplanted by the sound of a live drummer. To be a drummer for sleigh bells would be the worst gig in musicdom. I don't think ANYONE sounds like this band, and that is the rarest of things, and that is something I value. Alot. More power (and burst eardrums) to the Bells.
I've attempted to listen to three songs in a row by this group and each one gets progressively worse. The "guitar player" seriously needs to take some lessons. And if the "singer" wasn't so cute she wouldn't get any attention whatsoever. This "band" sounds like a couple of junior students who stumbled upon a guitar and drum machine and had some weekend fun. I realize most pop "music" sucks but these clowns have managed to take it to a new low. And they got a gig on SNL!?!
@otakuofanime Then what would be the point of them recording with a drum machine? The whole point of Sleigh Bells is the use of a drum machine, it would sound lame with an acoustic drum kit, no distortion and no 808.
@serafinastudios many electronic musicians perform live with acoustic drummers (crystal castles?). if they wanted to they could even make the drummer use an electric drum kit, it just makes it seem more energetic performance wise.
I also dont really think the drums are the "whole point" of sleigh bells, i feel the point is more the mix between Alison's very pop styled singing mixed with the noise punk feel of Derek's production. the drums do play an intergral part though, I do agree.
@otakuofanime@B2k3 I'm well aware that what you're talking about can be acheived with far from modern equipmentn: drum triggers+tr808 sample library+distortion and you're done. However, my point is that Sleigh Bells do not need to add additional musicians to their live lineup to sound awesome. The act is a duo that's playing raw shit, that's how it should stay; not a jumped up all singing all dancing over produced horrorshow.

kinda sad that they need a backing track. it would be really cool if they got a drummer, another guitarists and maybe a keyboard player.

@serafinastudios that's not true at all. With modern equipment you can do some mean shit.
