@Qabalist yeah I agree the use of the word mulatto dictates if it's derogatory or not cause simply a mule is the only animal that is two species. If swans were animals that were the result two different species of birds and swan was what you called someone who is biracial the situation would be completely different since swans are associated as delicate beautiful creatures. It just so happens that mules are not thought of as pretty but they're the only result of two different animals.

@cedricrlongreen The word mulatto may have been created on bad terms but when using the word these days the meaning is different. Now it's a more descriptive versioin of biracial cuz saying biracial could mean any two races(besides the fact that race is black or white. Ethnicity is more politically correct) where as Mulatto specifically is half black half white so people would use it if they really wanna describe themselves down to the point.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@cedricrlongreen for example, if my mom was black and my dad was white and someone asked me what race I was and I said I was biracial. Then they'd ask what are the two races. If I said I was mulatto (which I personally wouldn't refer myself) then they wouldn't even have a further question about what I was. I'm just saying all this to show why someone might use the word mulatto for themselves.
when i go out i know i have to help myself only cause im poor...and its not a colour thing to help others but a money thing....i mean if im reach someday would help anyone no matter is colour or race...cause im mixed..;)

The one thing I don't get is how you see the association between the race of someone's mom with someone's opinion of their mom. People don't see they have a white mom, they usually just see their mom. But I think a black mom is more likely to address the race issue while white moms ignore race.

It is true what you say, my mother was my mother and I loved her very much and am still missing her 16 years since she departed this sorry world, however, even she though wasn't naive enough to think that her being white and me being mixed race and my father being black didn't mean something to some people, she knew very well what some other whites would think about her and me, what she didn't expect was for those of my fathers colour to be so ignorant about it, that was the shock twist.
I know that being mixed will equal you being a minority racially. But the sad thing is colorism exist, and that until people can stop trying to make people black or white when they're both, and when people can stop seeing people as more then because of the color of their skin. This will continue to be an issue.

Absolutely right there SylviaNCali, I am a person not a colour, we're ALL people not a colour, the fight is to get that reality across to those who still believe otherwise, calling someone by their colour instead of their name is the way bad apple people of one colour dehumanise the other, you often hear horrible comments like..."white devils" and "the darkies", it's all designed to turn "the other" into objects of fun or hate and sometimes subsequently targets to be "justifiablly" attacked.
@SylviaNCali That sounds nice but it will never happen. Whites invented the concept of race to determine who gets what. It was a way of determining the allocation/misallocation of resources. During the Age of Exploration, Europeans would collect data from plants, animals, and even human beings. Taxonomy was applied to all three. Europeans would determine a person's aptitude based on their race and their races' civilizationals achievements.
@SylviaNCali This meant that if you came from a race that had a notable/noteworthy civilization (ie Japan, Babylon, Egypt, etc) would would still be discriminated against but you wouldn't be the most debased in society. However, if you, or your ancestors, came from a hunter-gatherer society (ie Sub-Sahara Africa, The New World, Australian Aborigines, etc) then you were the most debased in society. You'd be dehumanized because of it.

Im biracial and I have to say I always feel out of place in a place with just one race around, such as all black or all white. Being mixed race isnt hell its just hard in some situations, for me anyways lol. Nice video!

thanks! I do too. I've haven't had much opportunity to be in a place with all biracial people. i don't feel that way around my family tho. it really isn't hell. it's hard, but so worth it i think.
Yes it really is, and the whole experience teaches you to be a stronger person and therefore, to teach future generations of people in your family to love themselves.

I will say Being mixed race in America seems to be a whole lot of grief.I'm from London,Uk where mixed race kids-white and black are very much a norm, very visible in society all over the place.I can't help but be thankful that I'm not American.Love your stuff Tiff.
I don't recall you ever saying you were the authority on mixed race people. But you are mixed race and have every right to comment on the issue as you see it,how you see it from your perspective.so just ignore 55lashes.Obviously someone has issues.
someone does. i don't get it. now they've started making videos to warn people against my "mixed race propaganda." big sigh. probably some insecure adolescent. thanks for your support!!
I'm glad you brought up the issue of jealousy. I hate when people make the assumption that those of us who aren't mixed are somehow envious of mixed people who have the option of identifying as "other." I think the problem is, to some, it seems that people are not wanting to identify as Black simply because they don't like that part of them. And I know that to be true from experiences with people I know.
@mom2dave EXACTLY. Because it always comes from those who really coulfn't pass if they wanted to. This young lady has very strong Afro-typic features. There are people in my black family who resemble her look. No big deal. They're black, and I'm sure they have some mixture as do we all to some degree. But those who make a big deal of it almost always tend to be the ones who cannot pass for non-black, so they want to let the world know they are mixed with non-black.
I just want to say I respect you a lot Tiffany. People in this aren't comfortable if everything doesn't fit into a category. We are all unique individuals and deserve to make our own path. I look forward to seeing your future blogs. Keep up the wonderful work.
Chase the American dream, what does that mean? What values do we really hold? Blame it on celebs & the media? Just like the freemasons standing up to their king, why can't we understand that? Everything in the history of this country is based on making money. Declaring independence, civil war & 9/11. What values do you have? Stand up for them. You know the difference between wrong & right. A person doesn't need college for that.
no. but perhaps to discover what your values are and what is right and wrong in by one's own individual standards, one needs to get away from their initial environment where those things have been shaped by others. college is a safe place to explore. you can do it anywhere tho. that was my point.
I love how you speak so intelligently!!Your videos are really informative too.I like this one and how you talk about how a person could maybe consider moving to a different area and develop as a person out on his or her own...that is so me all the way!I love independence and just knowing that I can explore life the way I want too!
Excellent vlog. I totally agree about change of perspective. I went away for three summers in college and those summers really helped build me into who I am. I got to meet totally new people and "try out" different aspects of myself with them. Then I'd go back to my family and friends with a new layer of confidence and self-worth. It's hard to stay open to who you are supposed to become when you're trying to maintain an image of who you think you should be. It never works out.
I loved your point about moving away from being caught up in how others see and define you. Everyone should live their own life and not let society think for them. That's the beauty of individuality! Love your vids.
thanks so much! youtube has taught me that not everyone feels that way. it's so interesting to me. so many people seem comfortable letting society choose and think for them. certainly not all, probably not most, but many!
